According to Abraham Lincoln, "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." It was never a coincidence nor an error that made the great people of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency to have entrusted their mandate to you for an unblemished record of three consecutive times, a cumulative of 12 calendar years. I see it as the proceeds of a humble servant leader that was found worthy both in character and in power with track records of unprecedented performance and unmatched records of stewardship. Until you came on board to represent the good and loving people of our constituency, the roles and responsibilities of a legislator were perceived to be lawmaking and oversight functions only. Many never believed that the bar of representation can be raised to an enviable height as you have practically, qualitatively and humbly manifested it, in the last 12 years of uninterrupted parliamentarian duties. As one of your ardent followers and admirers who were privileged to be part of the glorious journey for more than a decade, I made bold to say that you indeed distinguished yourself by successfully sustaining and graciously fulfilling the social contract between the people of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency. Asides from being a legislator who sagaciously moved over 70 Motions and sponsored more than 10 people-focused and development-driven Bills, I still lost count in my assessment of your tremendous landmark achievements in virtually all the communities in our constituency. You facilitated many verifiable developmental projects in Health, Power, Agriculture, Education, Road Infrastructures and a lot more, not just on paper but practically on the ground. By the power of your office, you transformed the destinies of more than 300 (and by extension thousands) of your constituents with both Federal and State government employments. Your countless moral and financial support toward your constituents and mankind are top-notch. In all of these great achievements, It will forever be on record that at no time did you allow yourself to be intoxicated with the euphoria of your office, no record of harassment, intimidation or victimisation of your critics, not even at the height of open confrontation and provocation. Like every other mortar, who are created not to be infallible, who by nature must have their shortcomings and who cannot satisfy everyone and all interest, there are surely some noticeable human deficiencies in certain areas. However, your superlative performance, your qualitative representation and your positive impact toward your constituency and in the lives of thousands of your constituents evidently outweighed those areas in which some perceived you did not live to expectations. As the 10th National Assembly wind down today, having been one of the longest-serving parliamentarians from Okun land and Kogi State, May it please God to bountifully reward your service of stewardship to your fatherland. May posterity be kind to you and May the glory of the latter days be greater than the former. You are indeed a worthy ambassador that performed more than just a parliamentarian. ...Tunde Arise Akanmidu (ADC Stalwart) Source: https://equitynews.ng/2023/06/09/hon-teejay-yusuf-a-worthy-ambassador-more-than-just-a-parliamentarian-tunde-arise-akanmidu/

It was the maiden edition of Women of Divine Destiny Initiative, WODDI Inspiring Women Summit (WIWS) 2023 and the carefully selected speakers cut across politically exposed persons, women advocates, philanthropists, education managers and more who converged in Abuja to brainstorm on means to further harness the potentials of women. The 2-day event was yet again another opportunity for renowned author, poet and founder of HalimaFactor Community Initiative, Halima Usman who has consistently remained a loud voice on the need to promote the welfare of women in the country, along with likeminds to x-ray ways women can overcome the bottlenecks hindering them from reaching their full potentials. Wife of the country's Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo, Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Paulin Tallen, wife of Edo State Governor, Betsy Obaseki her Sokoto state counterpart, Maryam Tambuwal were among those who spoke at the event. Speaking on the topic, "Unbroken in the Face of Adversity" on Monday, May 22 being the first day of WIW Summit, Usman, who is also the immediate past chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Abuja said despite several pains women incubate, they put up smiley faces as if all is well, noting that time has come for everyone to be each other's keeper. Citing one of the two survivors of the Dec. 20, 2005 Sosoliso plane crash, Kechi Okwuchi who is said to have undergone over 100 surgeries and still counting as a clear example of adversity, Usman said Kechi has moved on to become the envy of others without letting herself to be broken by circumstances around her. She listed some adversaries women go through to include health, psychological social and financial. "I remember in November 2022, a female official of DSS jumped into the Lagos lagoon. She was identified as Adetutu Adedokun. Only God knows what she was passing through. "Shortly before that incident, we heard that her fiance proposed to her, her family was okay and she had a good job but something was going on, possibly psychologically and probably, nobody was there to talk to her before she ended it all", Usman said. She further stated that some of the social problems women pass through are finance-related even as she noted that physically challenged women live with the stigma of their conditions in addition to financial challenges, a situation she called "double wahala". Usman urged women to practice self-love, appreciate their modest efforts and blame themselves less. "When you go all out, the community, the society, the weather, the economy and the social issues, all beating you and when you come inside, you beat yourself the more, that alone can kill you. "Learn to practice self-love, look at yourself, what have you done wrong, what are the lessons, what wrong choices have you made, accept them and move on. Give yourself a hug, take yourself out and have a good treat", she advised. In her remarks, the founder Women of Divine Destiny Initiative (WODDI) and former First Lady of Imo State, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha said the summit was organised for love of country and admiration of patriotic devotion to build a better society for this generation and generations of Nigerians yet unborn. Others speakers include wife of former Senate President, Mrs. Helen Mark, Chairperson Senators' Wives Forum Dr. Halima Gaya, Founder Love of Christ Generation Church Rev. Esther Ajayi and more. They were in agreement that women are bearers of hope and important pillars in the discourse to move the family, community and the nation forward. A Senator-elect, Chief Osita Izunaso has said that when inaugurated, the 10th National Assembly will look towards amending the Act setting up the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) which he said has become moribund. According to Sen. Izunaso, a former Council Member of the Institute, NIPR is one of the foremost organisations in Nigeria that moulds opinion and sets agenda for national discourse. Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday at a dinner organised in honour of three fellows of the Institute recently elevated to top management positions at their places of work, Sen. Izunaso, a former Organising Secretary of the ruling APC said NIPR should be strengthened for effective performance in view of its critical role of building and managing the reputation of the country. The promoted fellows of the Institute are, Wale Adeniyi recently elevated to the rank of Deputy Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim recently elected National Internal Auditor of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Osondu Ohaeri now a Deputy Corps Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC). According to Sen. Izunaso, the enormous task fostering understanding, promotion of mutual respect and strengthening of relationship among different stakeholders for national development cannot be achieved with weak regulatory framework, stressing that certain sections of the NIPR Law need urgent legislative attention. "NIPR is one of the foremost institutions in Nigeria that shapens opinion of what happens in this country. It markets humans, services and products in the overall interest of our country. But I have discovered that the Act setting up NIPR has become moribund and I believe that in 10th Assembly, we should be able to amend the Act setting up NIPR". In his remarks, the President of NIPR, Mallam Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo noted that application of professional skills earned the promoted members their new ranks. He said the Institute is proud of achievements of its members, noting engagement of competent and capable professional hands in every facet was what the nation needed to make meaningful progress. The newly promoted Deputy Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Wale Adeniyi while thanking friends and associates for gathering to celebrate them noted that it requires hard work to gain promotion in public service. According to Adeniyi, many have worked hard without promotion, while others who have been promoted are not celebrated, expressing gratitude to NIPR family for putting in place a forum to celebrate the success of its members. Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim and Osondu Ohaeri in their separate remarks also pledged to give their best in projecting the image of NIPR and serving the country. Some of the dignitaries in attendance were: The Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Otunba Segun Runsewe, Chairman, United Nigeria Airlines, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo and House of Representatives Member-elect (AMAC/Bwari, Federal Constituency, FCT), Comrade Joshua Chinedu Obike. As the race for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly continues to breed interests across parties, geopolitical zones and ethnicities, with visible evidence of religious factors in choosing the next President of the Nigeria Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Coalition of Civil Society For Democracy* has taken different views on most factors that usually shape the emergence of the leadership of the National Assembly. About 42 leaders of the Civil Society Groups at a Press briefing in Abuja on Saturday centred on The 10th Assembly Leadership and Nigeria Interest Over Other Interests. The Coalition of Civil Society For Democracy, speaking through the Convener Comrade Richard Leke, said "the direction where the pendulum of a society swings is a function of the quality of leadership in place. We have decided to digress a little into the common factors that will determine what happens to us all as citizens of Nigeria and our readiness to practice true democracy as best global practice. "Certain factors should no longer be yardsticks or parameters to become the Senate president or Speaker of the House. We have so much idolised party supremacy, religion and ethnicity which have not produced desirable results in our political journey." Comrade Leke went further to say "we must henceforth emphasize competence, merit, and experience in choosing the leadership of the National Assembly above geopolitical zones and other glorified factors practiced by politicians which have impeded our democratic growth and undermine productive legislation" The group further expressed readiness and contiguous agitation for competence, experience and merit as against zoning and party anointing in choosing the leadership of the 10th National Assembly. The Legislative job is quite different from that of the executive and as such, must be given different approach. For example, Senator Ahmad Lawan who is the current President of the Senate is still the best option for the seat in the coming 10th Assembly, his geopolitical zone and his religion should not be factors that should disqualify him. This is an experienced legislator who understands the rudiments of legislation, diplomatic and productive engagement with the executive that have led the 9th Assembly in passing most crucial Bills such as the independent of State Houses of Assembly and Judiciary as well as the new electoral acts which have helped reshaping our electioneering process, and address certain ambiguity in electoral litigation and has led the most peaceful Senate in recent past" The group strongly expressed. We have heard the President-Elect severally, emphasising competence and merit over every other factors in governance and we also hold same believe that, that is the only way we can move forward as a nation. Moreso, the legislative Job requires strong experience as seen in other climes we claim to learn democratic norms. Only a very few experienced Senators are returning to the 10th Assembly and if we must tell ourselves the truth,we cannot afford to downplay the importance of experience in legislative leadership and as such, Senator Ahmad Lawan should be considered for the crucial legislation of the next dispensation. Above all,we must take into consideration that the social perception of the personality occupying the seats of President of the Senate and Speaker, will certainly form the true reflection of characters of the entire 10th Assembly members. We conclude by urging Senator Ahmad Lawan to consider running for the President of the Senate and to let the leadership of APC and other incoming legislators to note that, neither geopolitical zones nor religious factors should disqualify anyone from running for an office in democratic society as the the current Vice president and Speaker of the House of Representatives are also from same zone" Comrade Leke emphasised. As the race to Lugard House gets more competitive and nearer, a strong APC support group named APC Grassroots Ambassadors have suggested the Auditor General for Local Government in the state, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo as a perfect fit for replacement of Governor Yahaya Bello and worthy lieutenant that has the innate capacity for continuity of good governance the Governor has started in the state. The group says the need for the Governor to be extremely cautious and intentionally introspective in taking decisions on his successor is very important and cannot be toyed with. The group made this know in a press statement on Thursday in Lokoja, the State capital and charged the Governor not to allow himself to be carried away by number of aspirants in the race but consider loyalty, competence and continuity in the good governance he has established in the state as the three cardinal points that must guide his decision making. The press release which was signed by the group's State Coordinator Pastor Segun Johnson and Spokesperson, Hon Haruna Ibrahim further says that among all those jostling for the seat, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has been consistent in his loyalty to the Governor, his generosity to the people, his commitment and outstanding performance in his official assignments and people's oriented Political participation and leadership. The statement describes Alh Ododo's character of transparency, integrity and accountability at work as a reason for the stability that have been experienced in local governments in the state, through proper sanitization of the system, blockage of financial loopholes in the local governments payroll and establishment of order that killed the monster of ghost workers and other human challenges and fraud associated with the local government system in the state. The group hailed Alh Ododo's humility, simplicity and focus, liking him to traits of Governor Yahaya Bello that makes him stand out. Hon Haruna says the party members are grateful to Governor Yahaya Bello for his style of inclusive leadership that have been beneficial to the party members and demand that he hand over to someone who could continue culture of welfarism for the party members, development for the state and detribalized in his approach to leadership. The group says it will begin a ward to ward mobilization of eligible voters for the governorship project of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and enjoin Kogites and APC stakeholders to support the young man who will make the state proud. Kogi West Senatorial Election: PDP Raises Alarm. Cites Gross Manipulations of Process,BVAs Bypass and Over Voting The Peoples Democratic Party has raised alarm of gross irregularities and manipulations of the election process conducted in Kogi West on the 25th February,2023. Speaking in Kabba through the party party chieftain who strongly expressed concern on serious unholy collaboration of APC with some INEC officials in the election. "It is unimaginable to note the gross irregularities and manipulations that took place in several interior communities by bypassing the BVAs in the accreditation process, which aided the outrageous and over voting evidently seen in the results across some constituencies. "While urging all members of Kogi West to be law abiding and conduct themselves peacefully throughout this process,we nite the following aberrations: 1. That the results allocated to APC through over voting in many rural communities is unknown to the process of the election and therefore rendered the results questionable. 2. That the bypass of BVAs in accreditation and voting process in certain rural communities is totally unacceptable and therefore cannot stand. 3. The outrageous votes collated across the entire Kogi West for all political parties is not a true reflection of the accredited voters in the election. Therefore, the results remains a nullity and will never stand the test of time. https://equitynews.ng/2023/02/27/kogi-west-senatorial-election-pdp-raises-alarm-cites-gross-manipulations-of-process-bvas-bypass-and-over-voting/

The attention of the ADC House of Representative Elect, Arc. Idris Salman has been drawn to a fake news making round on the social media and other various news platform as a joke taking too far and a fake news that should be disregarded by the entire good people of Kabba-Bunu/ Ijumu federal constituency. Ordinarily, as a party, we would have ignored the fake news but for the good people of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency who have spoken with their votes, it then has become imperative to correct the misleading, jaundiced and parochial position of the defeated APC candidate. It is an inconvertible fact based on the electoral act that when there is an over voting or crisis in any polling unit, such result should be cancelled. which is exactly what the INEC has done by cancelling the unit 005 in Iyah-Ayeh in Otu ward of Kabba/Bunu LGA,and in unit 006 Ogale Aduge of Ijumu LGA, all in Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency. One is now surprised at the verdict of the returning officer, Dr. Adams Baba who declared the process inconclusive, despite the fact that the acclaimed unit 005 in otu ward and unit 006 in Ogale Aduge had earlier been cancelled where all party agents and INEC official signed the cancellation form. The position of the Law is clear that once an election from any unit or ward has been cancelled, no INEC official can declare a re-election except by the intervention of the court of law since it has been cancelled. This has been the situation across the nation where similar cancellation has been done without a call for rerun. One is now wondering why that of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency would be an exemption. We therefore call on INEC to do the right thing acceptable within the law by declaring the Reps elect, and present the certificate of return to Arc. Idris Salman of ADC, the duly elected candidate, having scored the highest votes of 13,867 as against the defeated candidate of the APC who scored 13,605 without further delay in tandem with the result sheet that was duly signed, stamped and presented to all political party agents by INEC. It is an inconvertible fact that once a duly signed and stamped election result has been issued to a winer, you don't return later to call for a kangaroo re-election. As a party, we want to believe that INEC should be an unbiased body, and so we therefore call on the INEC chairman to investigate the actions of Dr. Baba, the INEC officer so that such a shameful action will not repeat itself in the nearest future to avoid ridiculing the electoral body that may warrant communal crisis. We call on the good people of Kabba Bunu Ijumu federal constituency to remain calm and peaceful as we ensure that our mandate is returned. We further express our sincere thanksgiving to the good people of Kabba-Bunu/ Ijumu federal constituency for their overwhelming support. We urge them to remain calm while we await the presentation of the certificate of return to our duly elected house of rep member, Arc. Salman Idris of ADC. The National President of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Rev. Canon Prof. Chuka Osisioma has urged leaders across the country to imbibe the culture of sustainable consumption as a means of protecting the future for younger generations. "We seem to be consuming our present and our future. If we continue with the rate at which we are going, our children will not have a future to inherit", Prof. Osisioma told participants at the first session of 2023 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) programme in Abuja on Tuesday. The 3-day event which started on Monday had as the theme "Understanding Financial Disclosures On Sustainability". The ANAN President cautioned leaders against bequeathing future of emptiness to the younger generation, urging for moderation in consumption of the nation's treasury. He said sustainability in reporting is an attempt to ensure that those who will take charge of tomorrow are not robbed of value to build on, urging accountants to ensure that their reporting has quality of sustainability. He said the theme was carefully chosen to enable paper presenters and the body of accountants do their best in adding their voices to the campaign for a productive future. Declaring the first session of 2023 MCPD open, the acting clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambawal said the theme was timely considering the recent developments in the country's financial sector. "The programme is timely because it comes at a time our financial accounting system is so opaque and falling short of integrity, hence the need to expose the accounting profession to expert review, interrogation and solution is more than anything else of urgent importance", he said. According to Tambawal, financial disclosure demands a transparent accounting system that allows private and public entities to provide details of their income, asset and liability using a financial statement supported by document. He expressed displeasure that World Bank and other institutions in finance related matters have faulted Nigeria's financial reporting practices as substandard and not in tandem with world best practices. He insists that a strong financial service sector can propel economic growth while a frail financial sector is capable of pulling down a nation's economy. Tambawal appealed to participants to maximize the knowledge gained at the MCPD to inject openness, transparency and integrity in the practice of accounting profession and financial system in Nigeria. In this regard, he assured that the bill sent to the National Assembly by ANAN will in due time be passed into law as efforts are ongoing to make it an Act. In his remarks, the chairman FCT Inland Revenue Service (FCT-FIRS) Haruna Abdullahi said the FCT has not explored the possibility of funding its budget through internally generated revenue. While alleging a poor culture of filing tax returns in FCT, Abdullahi called on professionals to lend support in the campaign for tax clearance certificates for individuals and entities. This he said will give citizens right to interrogate and hold political leaders accountable, stressing that payment of taxes in order to be more politically conscious. Host of the MCPD and the chairman of ANAN FCT 1 Abuja branch, Elisha Andrew Shavah expressed gratitude to the national leadership of the association for its support and thanked members for their cooperation in making his first outing since his election a huge success. According to Shavah, false financial disclosure is one of the challenges the country faces, a situation he underlined is being fuelled by lack of transparency and accountability in the system. He charged accountants to as professionals contribute their quota in strengthening transparency in financial disclosure. Rejoinder - "How Atiku Abubakar Will Become The Next President Of Nigeria": It's Time To Educate the Educator.... Tosin Adeyanju It was George Orwell who once said that "in the time of Universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act" I have read the laughable, jaundiced, parochial and misleading opinion of Dele Momodu, and ordinarily would have ignored the jaundiced view of Bob D knowing fully well that he is entitled to his opinion but for the purpose of clarity and the need to educate the educator, I have decided to set the record straight and correct the misleading notion and Illusions of Dele Momodu and that of his pay master. The fact of the matter is that 1979 is not 2023 and the fact that the PDP has control of 14 states in which 6 of the Governors are rebellious and have rejected the Atiku Presidency long before now which even the NPN of 1979 didn't experience. in 1979, the NPN strongholds Were North and Southern Minority. The PDP strong holds since 2015 has been the South East and the Niger Delta States but both region are now shaky with a bleak future due to the Peter Obi factor, coupled with Wike led G5 and the Kaura G1. It was possible for the then Shagari Presidency to win due to the fact that he was sellable and has more friends than enemies as against Atiku, who is seen as corrupt and cannot even be trusted by his former boss Olusegun Obasanjo who recently endorsed another candidate. It is an incontrovertible fact that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the next President in waiting, owing to his Political Sagacity, Economic ingenuity Social dexterity and his records of public and private service. The reality today is that the Tinubu APC is clearly different from the Awo/UPN Though from historical point of view, Asiwaju was an Awoist in 1979 which gave birth to the AD/AC/ACN that is similar to the AG/UPN. However, Asiwaju has achieved what Awo didn't by integrating the west, identified with opposition parties to a national party that captured power at the federal level. It is on record that Awo during his helicopter bound campaigns did not visit any Emir in the north and could not find a Northerner worthy as his running mate which made him settle for an Igbo man. The Northerners have seen Asiwaju as their own who has been tested and can be trusted, this is why the Northern Governors and stakeholders endorsed him at the primaries with their open arms, owing to the General and widely acceptance of the Tinubu/Shettima Mandate. In a sane society, Atiku should have stepped aside to clear his name over the corruption allegation of the SPV, but the outcome of the 2023 election and the landslide victory for APC and Asiwaju/Shettima will retire Atiku Abubakar politically because the Asiwaju/Shettima sterling performance as Governors/Senators and the APC eighty pages manifestos has renewed the Hopes, yearnings and aspirationss of All Nigerians who cannot wait for a better Nigeria. We urge all Nigerians to ignore the conjured and narrow minded analysis that Atiku will win the 2023 election. Nigerians cannot afford to go back to Egypt and will not vote for a man that has vowed to sell both social and commercial assets of our country to his friends and ally, hence the Dele Momodu Distorted beer parlor political analysis can best be described as what Macbeth referred to as a tale told by an idiot, full with sound and furry but signifying nothing. Indigenes of Tangale in Biliri local government area of Gombe State resident in Gwagwalada and Kwali area councils in Abuja have launched a fundraising campaign for the construction of a befitting town hall in the nation's capital. The project they say will also serve as a skills acquisition hub for sons and daughters of Tangale and other community members so as to empower them for self-reliance especially with the growing unemployment rate in the country. To this end, the town union under the auspices of Tangale Community Development Association (TCDA) Gwagwalada-Kwali Axis has set a target of N30m for this edifice expected to commence in the first quarter of 2023. At the official launch of the project fundraising in Abuja on Saturday, the chairman TCDA Gwagwalada-Kwali Axis, Ketos Audu Willy stated that the community has been confronted with challenges of renting a befitting venue for its meeting, which has necessitated the initiation of efforts to own a town hall. While stating that a large majority of members of TCDA in Gwagwalada-Kwali Axis are peasant farmers, he expressed optimism that with the support of well-meaning sons and daughters of the town, the project will become a reality. "This is also in line in joining other town unions to own a decent town hall. Other communities in Abuja have a similar project, so it will serve as an avenue to generate income also as well as empowering our young people with skills to make them employable or even employers of labour. "As a responsible community, we associate with other tribes in this axis, exhibit our culture and live peacefully with them. This project when completed will strengthen that bond" he said. While citing security concerns as reason for absence of some invited guests and dignitaries, he expressed optimism that support will come the way of the association in executing this laudable project. The chief host of the event and the cultural leader of the association, Gerald Teleh stressed that this project will also serve as an event centre, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to be rented out for the purpose of income generation for Tangale community. He said the community understands the economic challenges around the country at the moment, adding that the voluntary donation of funds will continue among TCDA members in the axis and beyond while the project lasts. While expressing concern over the depleting value of Naira, the elder statesman said the one year target for the project completion will depend on availability of funds, urging for cheerful donations to achieve this target. In his comment, the chief launcher and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Gombe South Senatorial District, Hon. Anthony S. Yaro (Makaman Waja) while applauding the initiative by Tangale community pledged his support towards the actualisation of the project. Hon. Yaro said he is committed to building the bridge of peace and unity in the entire local governments and towns that make up the senatorial district which he said is lacking at the moment. According to the political and community leader, a research system has been put in place by his office to identify the remote and immediate causes of crisis around communities in Gombe South and proffer solutions through a round-table dialogue. He reiterated his readiness to redefine effective representation if elected the next senator of the district, urging for the support of Tangale people and other communities in Gombe South. The organising committee chairman of the ceremony, Mr. Timothy Zelani thanked the people of Tangale community for coming out in large numbers to identify with this project, expressing hope that it will be accomplished and other ones executed in no distant time A daughter of the community, Ruth Lamalate noted that the community can accomplish a lot when they come together, saying the unity of purpose in Tangale Community Development Association, Gwagwalada-Kwali Axis is worth emulating. As the 2023 general elections draw nearer, a political support group of the former vice president and presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, Motion For Atiku (MFA) has insisted that only Atiku Abubakar has capacity to correct the several wrongs done in the polity by the APC-led government since 2015. This comes as MFA insists that the country has witnessed a heightened deterioration in security, education, health, economy and politics since the inception of the APC government. At a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday, the Director General of Motion For Atiku, Stephanie Oby Dike said time has come for Nigerians to speak decisively and vote out the APC government for a more pro-people governance which she said Atiku Abubakar will represent if elected as the country's president in 2023. She said, "Our Movement and Group - Motion For Atiku is very passionate about enthronement of good governance in Nigeria. Over the years, especially since 2015, the country has been subjected to all forms of defective policies on security, education, economy and politics. "These defects have inflicted very deep injuries to the overall socio-political and economic activities to the country, thereby threatening her corporate co-existence and unity. "The negative effects of these are being severely felt by the citizens, especially the poor masses. The desire of Motion for Atiku is to support our presidential candidate in planning to salvage the country from the grip of a government that seems to be confused and totally inept. "The group members have been following the activities and contributions of His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, towards the well-being of the country, long before he became the Vice President and ever since. "Based on his many contributions and achievements, we are convinced that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Wazirin Adamawa, is the person that has the right vision, the will and ability to take the required bold decision that will make Nigeria work again. "It would be an honour to join forces together so as to enhance our commitment and contribution in making Nigeria work again" she said. Also speaking, one of the coordinators of the group, Mr. Muiltala Halilu listed the visions of the group to include, building an economically prosperous Nigerian nation, a true federation where everyone is happy and willing to sacrifice for the country, a country respected in the comity of nations among others. In his remarks, a member of the MFA Mr. Saeed Dantsoho expressed displeasure that Nigeria has been widely divided across regional and religious lines, which he attributed to poor leadership of APC. He said if elected as the next president, the former vice president will reunite the country as a nationalist, entrench a more prosperous nation for the benefit of all citizens. Notable Nigerians across all strata of life have been selected to speak at the upcoming Citizens Summit organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR in collaboration with over 70 organisations. This comes as the institute expresses worry that the ongoing strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU could serious affect the country's future and the education of its younger generations, describing the lingering strike as embarrassing. President and Chairman of Council of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR Mallam Mukhtar Sirajo spoke at a press conference on Monday to mark the beginning of the Citizens Summit for National Integration, Peace and Security, scheduled to hold next week Tuesday, 23rd and Wednesday 24th, August, 2022 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. He hinted that the Summit is a product of research conducted by the Governing Council of the Institute to identify factors responsible for what it called "current sad and unfortunate developments in our country". According to Mallam Sirajo, the outcome of its research revealed a widening trust deficit at three levels between government and the citizens, between and among the various ethnic and sociology cultural groups, and generally among the citizens, which have weakened the fabrics holding the country together as a people. He said, "The research also revealed a collapse of core national values, citizens despondency and apathy on issues of national development. It was therefore, the need to address the identified challenges that birthed the idea of the programme named "Citizens Summit for National Integration, Peace andSecurity, a programme, carefully designed to promote national cohesion, peaceful co-existence among citizens, rebuild trust, and lay solid foundation for a new and prosperous Nigeria. "Today, it is a common knowledge that relationships amongst our people are not what they used to be; mutual suspicion and antagonism seem to have taken over the place of our once beautiful and relatively peaceful coexistence that was least influenced by ethno-religious and other primordial differences. "Realising that at the core of the mandate of the Public Relations profession is the birthing and sustenance of mutually beneficial relationships (and mending them where they crack or even break down) the Institute came to the conclusion that our beloved country, Nigeria, needs more than a shot in the arm in this regard. "No nation thrives and progresses in an atmosphere of distrust. The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) recognizes trust as a key element in nation-building and the role of dialogue in societal well-being and development, and has decided to take up the challenge of rebuilding the broken trust through reopening channels of effective dialogue and development-oriented conversation. It is for this reason that we chose the theme of the Summit to be, Reopen Conversation, Rebuild Trust." While expressing worry over the growing insecurity in Nigeria, NIPR called on both state and non-state actors to intensify collaborations and redouble efforts at federal, state, and local levels towards ensuring effective protection and security of lives and property Nigerians. Mallam Mukhtar added, "Also, the Institute is greatly worried over the prolonged ASUU strike, which has affected the academic calendar of our children. There is no gainsaying the fact that we can only assure the future of the country by ensuring an assured future for its future leaders. "This cannot be brought about without consciously and deliberately preparing them for the challenges ahead. A solid educational foundation is therefore absolutely a necessary first step towards achieving that. We must therefore quickly return to the path of giving education of our children the urgency and importance that it more than deserves. "Government should as a matter of urgency, engage more determinedly with the concerned unions to resolve the lingering and embarrassing strike and should be seen to be doing that.' The Summit which will be chaired by Dr. Mrs. Dere Awosika, Chairman, Access Bank will have as speakers, social media influencer, Japhet Omojuwa, former Minister Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbe, former chairman Nigeria Economic Summit, Prof. Anya O. Anya and Barr. Mrs. Adepeju Jaiyeoba. It is expected to have two plenaries and 2 syndicates, across 14 thematic areas. Mallam Mukhtar expressed hope that the summit will come up with creative ideas, sustainable solutions, and implementable outcomes. To this end, he said NIPR President, has engaged core professionals to document the entire summit processes and ensure that, there will be a comprehensive and implementable report of the summit. He said one of the major outcomes is the initiation of a “Citizens Charter”, with focus on national reconciliation, integration, and development.
