InvestmentRe: Home Ownership Is Mostly A Bad Investment- Expert Says by obumslow: 8:35am On Nov 15, 2019
vikstandon:
Proverbs count it as a wise act .

Proverbs 24:27- Develop ur business before building a house.

Proverbs 24
[27][Put first things first.] Prepare your work outside and get it ready for yourself in the field; and afterward build your house and establish a home.
Golden rule before settling down.
InvestmentRe: Home Ownership Is Mostly A Bad Investment- Expert Says by obumslow: 7:48am On Nov 15, 2019
Wiseoldman:
The summary is that you can own a home a number of reasons. But never own a home as an investment. It is just buring money in the ground.
I agree totally with you on this. Imagine spending #40m building say 5 blocks of flats and rent each at 500k, it will take you about 16years to realize the #40m invested (that is without any maintenance and having very committed tenants all year round - no stories, no parking out). Whereas you can make more than #4m on a mutual fund market per annum. Better build a 5/6-rooms very well maintained hotel with a superb restaurant and bar with a good parking space.

But I must advise, own your own house before thinking of investing in housing or real estate.
BusinessRe: Nigeria’s Tax Revenue To GDP Ratio Rises To 7% by obumslow: 8:23am On Jan 25, 2019
Truth234:
Still way below the 15% target. Despite all the noise about improved revenue generation policy and the surge in customs revenue in 2018, the administration only recorded 1 percent increase in revenue from the old 6 percent. The 7 percent is even lower than the old 6 percent when the economy was growing at 7 percent (GDP $523 billion).

It is impossible to up revenue to GDP ratio when earnings are poor, unemployment jumped to 23.1 percent, interest rate remained unchanged at 14 percent, youth unemployment and underemployment (55.4%) higher than national average of 43.3 percent.

It is practically impossible to improve revenue when the economy is now growing at 1.81 percent, down from an average of 6-7 percent. Affordable loans will stimulate growth and enhance economic productivity.

In fact, in the 2019 proposed budget, non-oil revenue is expected to tick up by just 0.1 percent from the 2018, yet recurrent expenditure will account for 71.3 percent of the budget, 18.1 percent higher than 2018. Still, revenue generation is not reflecting those spendings.

Until local players are empowered and supported to create jobs and compete effectively, we won't grow our earnings. Damn inflation, knock down the high interest rate and create massive jobs, enhance wage growth and consumer spending, but no, the CBN knows we are nothing without foreign capital inflow, hence, the high interest rate to lure foreign investors at the expense of real growth. The whole policy is just wrong!
THANKS FOR THE BREAKDOWN.

tegzys:
Great move Barr. Godswill. May the good Lord protect you from evil people and see you through. Let God's will be done in my state Imo! A lot of sufferings and cries from people at home. I will return home to vote you come 2019. My prayer is that the internal politics of our Nigerian political parties don't deny you this opportunity. We need transparent internal primaries so that the best hands win.

This is certainly the wrong time to contest.
There's no better time than 2019. I am glad a youth has taken this bold step. He has my full support. All youths in Imo should work very hard to see that he realizes his ambition. We are the leaders of today, no longer tomorrow.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Am Tired by obumslow: 5:57pm On Jan 11, 2008
My broda, u can be an employer of labour if only you're determined. I urge u pencil down little things u can do on your own. I was once like u (before NYSC). I stayed a year but I followed my skills. I wrote down five good things I could lay my hands on while I await service (barbing salon with a touch, bar, web designs, restaurant with a touch and a provision store at a very strategic point). With these, I made my stay a wonderful one. As u do any of these, if not all, u can continue applying and writing tests. You may be lucky someday. Cheers!
