Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was impressed by the impact Darwin Nunez had coming off the bench to turn the Community Shield in his side's favour against Manchester City. The 23-year-old Uruguay striker, who could become the club's record signing at £85m if all the add-ons included in the summer deal with Benfica come to fruition, was introduced with 30 minutes to go and produced an impressive cameo. He won the late penalty from which Mohamed Salah put the Reds 2-1 up and then stooped to head home in added time to seal a 3-1 win in Leicester. He also caused Ederson a few problems, drawing the City goalkeeper into a challenge - in his very first attack - which would probably have resulted in a penalty were it not for an offside flag, and then forcing the Brazil international into a goal-denying save. "It was good, it was really good. It is clear it will get better with time," said Klopp. "We live in a world where everybody gets judged on first sight and that's not helpful for anybody, but it happens constantly.

Hakim Ziyech wants to move from Chelsea to AC Milan but will have to take a pay cut if he is to join the Italian champions, according to the Daily Mail. The report claims the Blues are willing to let the Moroccan international leave for £8.4m but his £5m a year wages are a stumbling block for the Italian champions. Milan are also chasing a deal for Club Brugge attacking midfielder Charles de Ketelaere but Sky in Italy understand there has been a stalemate in negotiations between the two clubs. The Belgian side are seeking more than the offer of £25.3m (€30m) plus bonuses which Milan offered on Tuesday.

Napoli have signed centre-back Kim Min-Jae from Fenerbahce. The South Korea international replaces Kalidou Koulibaly, who joined Chelsea earlier last month, has signed a three-year deal with an option for a further two. Napoli activated Kim's £16.8m release clause in his Fenerbahce deal and have set their own at £37.8m, which can only be triggered by foreign clubs, according to Sky in Italy.

Juventus will look to Chelsea's Timo Werner or Manchester United's Anthony Martial if they cannot wrap up a deal for main target Alvaro Morata, according to Sky Italy. Juve boss Max Allegri has identified the Spaniard as the missing piece to complete his new-look front line with Dusan Vlahovic and Angel Di Maria. Sky Germany understands Werner is attracting interest from his former club RB Leipzig, who received £49m for him when his release clause was met by Chelsea two years ago.

Christian Eriksen says that joining Man Utd is "very special" and was something he never thought would ever happen. United signed the Denmark international on a three-year deal following a rigorous medical. The 30-year-old has strengthened Erik ten Hag's midfield options at Old Trafford after opting against remaining at Brentford, where he enjoyed an impressive stint on loan last season. The move sees Eriksen reunite with Ten Hag, who helped facilitate the midfielder's return from the cardiac arrest he suffered at Euro 2020 by inviting him to train with Ajax during his rehabilitation. |
Cristiano Ronaldo held talks over his Man Utd future with boss Erik ten Hag on Tuesday, as Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich ruled out a move for the forward. The 37-year-old arrived at United's Carrington training ground with his agent Jorge Mendes on Tuesday morning for talks. Former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was also seen arriving but it is understood he was there for a regular board meeting with chief executive Richard Arnold. Ronaldo returned to the UK on Monday after missing the club's pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia due to family reasons, with the explanation accepted by the club. |
