Anambra women have always been politically inclined.
PoliticsThe First And Only Female Governor In Nigeria- Dame Virginia Etiaba by Odey1997(op): 2:32am On Apr 23, 2025
Yes Nigeria once had a female governor by the name Virginia ETIABA and since today is Wednesday I thought it best to celebrate her legacies.

Dame Virginia Etiaba’s journey to becoming Nigeria’s first female governor wasn’t the result of one of those outrageous campaigns or a social movement it was a moment that was shaped by crisis, and defined by her level of maturity. Born in Nnewi, Anambra State in 1942, Mrs. Etiaba spent over three decades shaping minds as a teacher and school headmistress. She only entered politics later in life, becoming deputy to then Anambra state Governor Peter Obi. But when political chaos led to Obi’s controversial impeachment in 2006, the Constitution called for his deputy to take over and he was impeached. Suddenly, the retired teacher became the first woman in Nigeria to lead a state.

She took the role seriously, despite being underestimated by many you know our patriarchal society. Some saw her as a placeholder, others dismissed her simply because she was a MERE woman. She stayed the course on Obi’s reforms like investing in education, building roads, without any fanfare or self-promotion. Then, when the courts ruled that Obi’s impeachment was illegal, she did something few in Nigerian politics would dare to: she calmly stepped aside and returned power without drama or delay. Who would do that nowadays?

Today, her story is still the only one of its kind. Nearly two decades later, no other woman has governed a Nigerian state. She didn’t just make history; she modeled what leadership could look like when it’s rooted in service, not self-interest. She was our own Margaret Thatcher.

It's weird how many individuals are not aware of this fact actually. Father EMECHETE deserves more recognition.

In a time when colonial rule clashed with African tradition, one man dared to walk a path no one had before. Born in 1888 in Ezi, Delta State, Paul Obodoechine Emechete was raised in a traditionalist family yet, from a young age, he felt an unshakable calling toward the Catholic faith. Against the will of his community and even his own father, he pursued that calling with fire in his soul, sneaking off to attend Mass and studying under missionaries with rare brilliance and devotion.

His journey to priesthood was very spiritual . As a boy from a small West African village, Paul’s name reached the Vatican, and with it, a dream that had never before been realized: an indigenous African priest leading his people. Despite threats, ostracization, and cultural taboos, Paul’s unwavering faith inspired his entire family to convert even his father, who accepted Christianity on his deathbed. In 1919, after years of training and resistance, Paul was ordained as West Africa’s first indigenous Catholic priest.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9Myz2kFuBE?si=ye4eJwMuul53_wDO

Today, his village is home to a new generation of priests and reverend sisters who walk in his footsteps. But beyond the church walls, Paul’s story remains painfully absent from history books and national memory. His name doesn’t appear in school curricula, and his legacy is buried under the weight of colonial narratives that rarely honored native pioneers. And yet, his spirit still echoes as an iroko tree that shaped the forest beneath it.

Tarkwa Bay Beach is a serene escape that is off the coast of Lagos, and it is known for its stunning sunsets and tranquil waves but beneath this beauty lies a chilling tale that lingers in the sea breeze. According to our local legends, it speaks of a young girl who tragically drowned years ago while playing with her family along the shore. Despite desperate attempts to save her, the powerful current claimed her life. Since then, beachgoers have been sighting a little girl in a flowing white dress, her cries echoes through the night, sometimes accompanied by the some sort of sensation of being watched, even under the bright midday sun.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnISLIF_gAc?si=PfNfwfRogdsTOoRl

Though skeptics brush off this tale as myth, many Lagosians speak of unexplained happenings especially mysterious footsteps in the sand, cold gusts without warning, and objects moving with no visible cause. For some, Tarkwa Bay’s ghost is a symbol of unresolved sorrow; for others, it’s a chilling reminder of nature’s power. Whether truth or folklore, the story endures till date. #TarkwaBay #HauntedLagos #LagosLegends #GhostStories #NigeriaFolklore #UrbanMyths #TarkwaTales

EducationW.e.b Dubois Double Consciousness In Sociology by Odey1997(op): 7:44am On Apr 13, 2025
For a very long time, sociology as a discipline ignored the profound contributions of W.E.B. Du Bois. His expansive body of work focuses on race, segregation, and the emancipation of marginalized groups. Despite being one of the most influential sociologists and thinkers of his time, his ideas were often sidelined in mainstream academic discourse.

One of Du Bois’ most important works, The Souls of Black Folk, published in 1903, is a deeply reflective and analytical text. It portrays a sense of "looking at oneself through the eyes of others," of measuring one’s soul by the "tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity." This striking imagery mirrors the historical and emotional journey of the American Negro in striving to attain self-consciousness and identity.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPVPvE2bzcE?si=MkfxU47kp4NlwicG

Central to the book is the concept of double consciousness—a sense of always seeing oneself through the eyes of a prejudiced society. Du Bois writes about the struggle to merge the "double self" into a better and truer self, without erasing the unique heritage and experience of Black identity. This merging, he insists, must not come at the cost of losing any part of the older self.

Du Bois also powerfully exposes the material roots of racism and its effects on Black identity. He writes about the "color line"—a symbolic and literal boundary that separated Black and white people, denying African Americans equal opportunities in employment, education, and social mobility.

He uses the metaphor of "the veil" to describe how racism clouds the view between Blacks and whites. For whites, the veil represents a barrier to truly seeing and understanding Black life and humanity. For Blacks, it represents the imposed perspective through which they are forced to see themselves. The lifting of the veil symbolizes a moment of awakening—when white society begins to recognize the true struggles of Black Americans and sheds its narrow, myopic view.

Actually the fact is if Yorubas are the opposition such protests will always happen because it's only Yorubas that are bold to face the govt (Okeowo, Gani Fawehinmi, Fela, Beko etc). If igbos are the opposition (like now) such can never happen. Why? because they are cowards that will be wailing and crying and trying to gaslight others by saying others are coward (projecting themselves). Which is what you and your fellow dunces have been doing since 2015. Oya, cry home to mommy.
Do you have something against the Igbos?
EducationThe Ethnographic Background Of YALA/YACHE People by Odey1997(op): 5:34pm On Mar 17, 2025
Ethnography of the Yache people
Part 3

I actually extracted this from my Tiktok account. Enjoy!!!
Different people interpret the name Yache to mean different things. While some have claimed that their Yala brothers gave them the name, many have denied this allegation, claiming that the word is well-known in the Yache language.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOWUXwARcfI?si=Gc4uOh0IY21AoBB0

It was said that a simple conversation or dialogue among brothers gave rise to the name Yache. According to legend, the early man harboured strong animosity towards themselves. Stated differently, there was a high level of animosity even between relatives. Without even the tiniest provocation, someone can attack anyone. As a result, everyone was urged to constantly ready themselves for any unexpected attack. As a result, it was usual to hear advice like "Ya che na," which means "be prepared."

Bukky Wright went from being a C-list veteran actress, to being an IT auditor. This feat was achieved via her advancing her education and today she is earning triple the amount or salary she earned as an actress. That is a perfect example of upward mobility
