New York City’s Health Department on Friday reported the first female-to-male transmission of the Zika virus, which is most typically spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. The U.S. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said the report was the first documented case of sexual transmission of Zika from a woman to her male sex partner. “All previously reported cases of sexually transmitted Zika virus infection have been spread from men to their sex partners,’’ the Atlanta-based CDC said in a statement. In the New York case, transmission of the virus occurred on the day that a woman in her 20s returned to the city from an area with active Zika transmission. The statement said she had a single event of unprotected sex with a male partner. “The man had not traveled outside of the U.S. in the prior year. “The woman developed fever, fatigue, a rash and body aches the next day, and sought treatment,’’ it added. Health department officials then confirmed her infection. As soon as her male partner developed symptoms seven days later and sought treatment from the same caregiver, he, too, was diagnosed with Zika. Health officials from New York reported the case in the CDC’s weekly report on death and disease. They said the timing and sequence of events support female-to-male Zika virus transmission through unprotected vaginal sex. The CDC said it recommended that all pregnant women who have a sex partner who has traveled to or resides in an area with Zika use barrier methods such as a condom every time they have sex. It also suggested that they should not have sex during the pregnancy. However no cases of woman-to-woman Zika transmission have been reported, these recommendations now also apply to female sex partners of pregnant women. According to CDC, it is updating recommendations for sexually active people in which the couple is not pregnant and for people who want to reduce personal risk of Zika infection through sex. U.S. health officials have concluded that Zika infections in pregnant women can cause microcephaly, a birth defect marked by small head size that could lead to severe developmental problems in babies. The World Health Organisation has said there is strong scientific consensus that Zika can also cause Guillain-Barre, a rare neurological syndrome that causes temporary paralysis in adults. Report says the connection between Zika and microcephaly first came to light last fall in Brazil, which has now confirmed over 1,600 cases of microcephaly. http://milesmula..com.ng/2016/07/zika-virus-now-transmitted-via-sex.html

Recently Iyanya announced that he was going to start his own record label, rumours had it that he had a fight withhis boss and his wife Lillian Esoro. Early this morning, Iyanya denied any fight with either of them, adding that he loved the couple. Ubi Franklin took to his IG page to clarify the whole situation. Recently there’s been a lot said in the media about Iyanya leaving Made Men Music, I’d like to clarify things. Iyanya had approached me about a year ago and notified me of his intentions to start up a label. He wanted my blessings to do so and I told him it was a welcome development. I assured him of my support to help structure his planned label with the existing company (Made Men Music Group) whenever he was ready and the process was initiated. Two weeks ago he shared with me, news that the company had been duly registered and was ready to commence operations. I was also privy to the information that he had identified a few artistes with potential he wants to nurture. This done, I knew the label was ready to kick off. I understand his post piqued the curiosity fthe public and blogs made what they could of the news. Yes, Iyanya is starting a new label which will be a company out of Made Men Music with a different structure and a different focus, aiming at growing our industry. I would like to state here that like every other label we all have our internal issues from time to time. We have shared happy and sad moments and it’s only fair to grow each other in every way possible. Not every move means a breakup. As you know we still stand this way. Iyanya Tekno Selebobo Tonye Garrick Chibbz Dj Coublon Took some time out to be with my family and since I am expecting, I treaded the silent path for a long time. Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday blamed the administration of Goodluck Jonathan for the sorry state of Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi-Okene highway. He spoke when the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) visited him in his office at the Government House, Benin. “Right now, I have difficulty going home to my village because of what your predecessor did”, Vanguard quoted him as saying. “I have tried to explain it and it is important we explain it, not because anybody believes in what they call blame game, but the truth is that if the road wasn’t touched at all, it would have been better than it is now. “I did argue then that what they were doing was going to create more problems. The truth is that they have left the road worse off than it was before the haphazard dualisation which is now creating a lot of problems”, he said. Oshiomhole added that: “If our people found out that I didn’t talk about the road, they would think I am not taking advantage of my privileged relationship with you”. https://milesmula..com.ng/2016/07/i-cant-visit-my-village-because.html

Have you ever wished you could go back in time and have a "re-do"? As Maya Angelou shared, "Now that I know better, I do better." But, what if you're unaware that you're sabotaging your success? How can you "do better"? Check yourself for these behavioral pitfalls to prevent disappointment: 1. You procrastinate your success. You keep saying that you'll do it tomorrow. By continuing to postpone necessary action steps, you might feel like you're running in place. What to do instead: Write out a specific, measurable goal. Break down the goal into small action steps, schedule the steps in your calendar, and follow through. 2. You avoid taking personal responsibility. You tend to blame others for your lack of results, your stay stuck in your "story" for inaction, and you see yourself as a victim. What to do instead: Own your choices. Rather than staying stuck in the past, learn from it and move on. Start taking action despite mistakes you've made. 3. You give into your fear instead of leaning into your growth. Anytime you feel fear, you respond by escaping the situation or avoiding it. In doing so, you fail to challenge yourself and thereby fail to develop the skills, stamina, and understanding necessary to help you to advance. What to do instead: Use fear as a signal that you're about to grow if you take action. Then take an action that will move you one step closer to your desired outcome. 4. You operate in a vacuum. You like to do things on your own. However, you're only as successful as your current level of thinking permits. While you might rise to the level of your thoughts, you limit yourself by limiting your input from others. What to do instead: Read, learn from others who've achieved what you want to achieve, and consult with experts who might open your mind to even better ways of thinking. 5. You don't have an accountability partner. You might set goals, but because no one is watching, when the going gets tough, you stop. Your motivation to succumb to your own low frustration tolerance is higher than your motivation to take action. As a result, things stay the same. What to do instead: Develop higher frustration tolerance by focusing on the long term results of tolerating momentary discomfort. Create an accountability arrangement with a peer. Alternatively, consider hiring a psychologist or life coach to help you to understand yourself better and to hold you accountable for taking action steps and following through on your goals. Increasing your awareness of these 5 saboteurs of success can help you, but only if you use your new awareness to make better choices now. https://milesmula..com.ng/2016/07/5-warning-signs-that-you-wont-succeed.html |
Thanks to computers and tablets, good handwriting seems less important than ever. But handwriting is an important developmental skill, and your handwriting says a lot about you. We spoke with calligraphy expert Laura Hooper of Laura Hooper Calligraphy, who offers handwriting classes in cities around the country. Hooper shared seven tips to help anyone improve her handwriting. 1. Get The Right Materials Before you start writing, invest in materials that will help you practice. Some people believe that a fountain pen is superior for handwriting, but this may not necessarily be true for you. Find a pen or pencil that feels comfortable to hold, and that flows smoothly without having to push it too hard onto the paper. Once you find a writing utensil you like, you can start to experiment with different-sized nibs and thicknesses, as well as colors. People who are left-handed may be interested in buying specially designed left-handed pens, which are fast-drying to prevent smudging and hooked to allow lefties see what they’re writing. Aside from a pen, you’ll want a notebook, preferably one with grid-lined paper. This will be useful when you’re practicing capital and lower case letters, and will allow you to keep track of your progress. Hooper also suggested buying a light box. “For personal correspondence or holiday cards, a basic light box is handy,” she said. “It allows you to put guidelines underneath what you’re writing on, and you’ll have nice straight lines to help you as you work.” 2. Stretch “Before I start working, I usually flex my hands and roll my wrists a bit so they’re loosened up,” Hooper told us. “Especially if I haven’t written in the past few days, you get a little bit tight just like any other muscle.” In the beginning, you’ll be working muscles you never thought you needed to write in your wrist, forearm, and shoulder. Do a few minutes of stretching to loosen yourself up. 3. Develop Good Posture Sit up straight and use your non-dominant hand for balance for more control while you’re writing. “Without thinking about it, I use my non-writing hand for balance,” Hooper said. “This allows me to steady myself so I have better control with my right hand.” When you’re practicing, sit at a table at a hard-backed chair—not on a couch or in a recliner. Hooper said that having the right posture and giving yourself ample room is important when you’re re-learning how to write. Make sure your grip isn’t too tight, and steady your page with your non-dominant writing hand. 4. Assess Your Grip Pick up your pen and check out your grip: the writing utensil should rest between your thumb, index, and middle fingers, resting lightly on the ring finger knuckle, according to Hooper. Hold your pen and pencil closer to the nib, but not too tightly—your grip should be supportive, but without unnecessary tension. Don’t squeeze your pen because this will just make your hand cramp unnecessarily. If this doesn’t feel comfortable for you, don’t worry—there’s no perfect way to hold a pen. “It really depends on the person,” Hooper explained. “We have a lot of adults in our class, and when you’ve been writing for over 20 years, it’s difficult to correct what someone has been doing for that long.” 5. Retrain Your Wrist and Arm Most people write with their fingers, which means that they “draw” the letters. Calligraphy artists and professionals, however, don’t use their fingers at all. “Keep your arm and your wrist in the same position for every letter and motion,” Hooper advised. “You’re not wiggling your arm and your wrist around—it’s very controlled.” To practice, hold your pen and write big letters in the air. The muscles you’re using are the ones you’ll be using to write on paper. Picture yourself writing on a chalk board. You have to use your arm and your wrist to write because if you were drawing the letters with only your fingers, the letters would be too small for someone across the room to read. Writing this way will also make your writing more fluid. “What I try to instruct my students to do is pulling the pen rather than pushing it up and down the paper,” Hooper told us. A finger writer puts the full weight of his or her hand on the paper and picks up the hand repeatedly to move it across the page. A calligrapher will let his or her letters flow freely. Once you get used to this way of writing, your fingers will move very little, allowing your forearm to guide the pen and your shoulder to lightly push it into the paper for a much more streamlined style. 6. Slow Down “One thing I see a lot in my classes is that people write really fast as though they’re trying to do it as fast as they can,” Hooper said, “but it’s not a race. The point isn’t to see how fast you can do it, but how nice you can make each letter. Go slow and concentrate on making each letter look its best.” This is especially true when you’re practicing by yourself, which brings us to… 7. Practice, Practice, Practice Start by writing a row of lines and loops, concentrating on making the shapes evenly spaced with identical-sized lines and spirals. Gradually as your control increases, you can start writing out the alphabet, and then connecting the letters together in groups (ab, az, am, etc). Make your letters larger than you usually would to get your arm and wrist accustomed to doing most of the work. Once the movement starts to feel more natural, slowly decrease the size of the letters to your normal writing style. “The key is to practice,” Hooper said. “Seems really simple, but it’s true. I recommend getting a set or printing out a set of grid lines and writing each letter several times as carefully as possible. Then move onto letter combinations.” After you’ve gotten a good handle on letter combinations, start writing the phrase “the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” over and over again. The sentence contains every letter of the alphabet, which gives you lots of opportunities to practice making every letter as perfect as possible, as well as connecting your letters together. Keep practicing whenever you can, and you’ll see a vast improvement in your handwriting. https://milesmula..com.ng/2016/07/7-simple-steps-to-improve-your.html ![]()
