Statistics may be applicable, but it is incredibly hard to be umbiased, especially in the proper assignment of weights to each index. We can certainly judge a measure by its results. A method that places Puskas above Maradona is wack. It looks like the measure cared more about ranking Messi and Ronaldo than producing an actual ranking.

And no mathematics is not life. However we are thankful that it is incredibly useful.

It's Messi fans who should even be talking about stats as he clearly has a better career stat compared to Ronaldo but no, football is a lot more than stats and that's why Messi can still be adjudged the best player in games where he doesn't score or assist directly...
