New CNG E-portal launched for youths in Nigeria commercial transport sector

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has introduced a new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) e-portal aimed at youths in the commercial transport sector, especially those interested in operating CNG-powered tricycles.

The Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, announced this during a press conference, following the Federal Government's unveiling of 2,000 CNG-powered tricycles under the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PiCNG). This initiative is designed to empower Nigerian youths and reduce transportation costs.

Project Director of PiCNG, Michael Oluwagbemi, noted that the initiative supports the government's commitment to economic improvement by facilitating the distribution of CNG-powered tricycles. Through the portal, youths can apply to participate in the program, which is aimed at increasing transparency and accessibility.



Oluwagbemi encouraged young people in the transport sector, or those interested in joining, to register through the provided websites and benefit from the program. The initiative aligns with the government's goal of creating equal opportunities for all citizens.

The Minister urged interested youths to visit www.youthcng.ng or www.pci.gov.ng/tricycle to register and be part of the CNG programme.

Additionally, Oluwagbemi emphasized that CNG represents a sustainable future for Nigeria, both environmentally and economically, as the country transitions away from fuel subsidies.

A credit information platform has been launched by the Nigerian Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN). The portal offers a wealth of information that will help business owners choose wisely when applying for loans and credit from local financial institutions.

The SMEDAN Act of 2003 created the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to support the growth of the MSME sector of the Nigerian economy. The agency bills itself as an all-in-one resource for the development of MSME. Micro businesses, which serve as the foundation for SME's, are among the agency's clients.


SMEDAN Loan Facilities:

There are majorly four types of loans you can access on the SMEDAN CIP website; they are:

1. personal

2. business

3. Mortgage and

4. Credit.


Loan Application Process Stage:

Whichever one you choose, will take you through a four stage process before you can access the information.

1. The first stage is by clicking on any of the loans of your choice (Personal, Business, Mortgage and Credit)

2. The second stage where you have to fill in a quick form to search for the required loan selected from stage for the required loan selected from stage one

3. The third stage shows you a list of loans that matches your search criteria

4. The final stage is to view the contact information of your required loan.

Type of information Required:

SMEDAN advised each business owner to request this category of information from each financial institution as requirements may vary. However, the common documents requested are the certificate of incorporation of your business, audited financial statements and bank account statements.
