A gang of fraudsters have been jailed for a total of more than 43 years for their parts in the theft of millions of pounds from businesses and individuals in the UK and abroad.

They are convicted for their roles in a large-scale “diversion fraud” scam using hacking software following a six-month trial, and sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court on Thursday, May 2, 2019

Bonaventure Sunday Chukwuka, 41, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation, and conspiracy to conceal/transfer criminal property (money laundering). .

He was also found guilty of possession of a prohibited item (a phone) in prison and sentenced to 11 years' imprisonment.

Andrew Chike Chukwu, 35, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation and conspiracy to conceal/transfer criminal property - sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

Emmanuel Chike Chukwuka was found guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud and sentenced to two years and eight months’ imprisonment.

Christian Chukwuka (brother), 39, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation and conspiracy to conceal/transfer criminal property and sentenced to five years and nine months’ imprisonment.

Nadeem Abbasi, 48, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to convert/conceal criminal property and sentenced to two years and three months’ months imprisonment.

Mansoor Zaman, 27, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation, and conspiracy to conceal/transfer criminal property. He was sentenced to six years and nine months’ imprisonment.

Queen Chukwuka, 32, was found guilty of acquiring/possessing criminal property and sentenced to a community order

Grace Plange Chukwu, 39, was found guilty of acquiring/possessing criminal property and conditionally discharged.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Kaduna Zonal Office on April 1, 2019 arraigned Abdulrazak Abdulrahaman and Asala Richard before Justice Mohammed Tukur of the state’s High Court sitting in Kaduna on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N22,618,000 (Twenty-Two Million Six Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Naira).

The EFCC had received a petition from Global Green Services Limited accusing them of defrauding the company. Abdulrazak allegedly forged the company's documents after conspiring with Richard, to open different accounts with the said documents in the name of Global Green Environmental Services Limited where money meant for the company were diverted to.

One of the counts reads: “That you, Abdulrazak Abdulrahman, while being in the employment of Global Green Environmental Services Limited and Asala Richard while being in the employment of Aso Savings & Loans Plc, between January and December 2014, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court dishonestly converted to your own use, the aggregate sum of N22,618,000 (Twenty-Two Million Six Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Naira) only being money due to the Global Green Environmental Services Limited and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 308 and Punishable under Section 309 ot the Penal Code Law.”They pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.

Prosecuting counsel, Aishatu Ibrahim, thereafter, urged the court to fix a date for commencement of trial, and for the defendants to be remanded in prison.

Defence counsel, Kayode Gbenga, however, moved the bail application of the second defendant.

While adjourning the case to May 8, 2019, Justice Tukur granted bail to the second defendant in the sum of N5 million with one surety in like sum who must be a reputable public servant or a businessman residing within the Kaduna metropolis and must have money in his account to be verified by EFCC.

But the first defendant was ordered to be remanded in prison.

28-year-old Emmanuel Anthony, after his dismissal, was arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court in April 2018, for posing as an army lieutenant to commit crime. .

His picture was reportedly spotted online by a man who identified him as a member of the gang that snatched his Lexus SUV on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway sometime in February 2018. .

The victim reported to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Ibrahim, at the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, who recalled the Akwa Ibom State indigene from court. .

The Zone 2 Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Dolapo Badmos, said Anthony confessed to the crime and would also be charged with robbery.
