They are different kinds of laws, of which promise and gifting has their own law. If you gift me something and if I can proof it that you gifted me you can not take back that gift because it's law bidding. When it comes to law it's about proof. Now if I can prove it that you actually promised me marriage through engagement, written notes or like online discussion through texting that is enough to use.
Promise is part of law because you can take undue advantage at me, I can start doing things that ordinary I wouldn't have done.
