Foreign Affairs / Video of US High School Students Escaping as shooter tried to lure them out by Ogbenia: 7:14am On Dec 02, 2021
The terror at Michigan's Oxford High School that left four dead started with gunfire, yelling and an urgent message on a loudspeaker.
Then frightened students barricaded doors, phoned for help and picked up anything they could grab in case they needed to fight back.
Aiden Page. a senior, was in a classroom when he heard two gunshots Tuesday afternoon -- part of what authorities called a sophomore's "absolutely cold-hearted, murderous" rampage that left four students dead and seven other people injured in the deadliest shooting at a US K-12 school since 2018.
Just like in the active shooter drills they'd practiced, Page watched his teacher run in and lock the door, then students shoved desks against it, he told CNN's Anderson Cooper.
"We grabbed calculators, we grabbed scissors just in case the shooter got in and we had to attack them," he said, describing how a bullet pierced one of the desks they'd used to block the door.
In a sign language class, freshman Mark Kluska heard someone announce a lockdodwn over the school's loudspeakers. His teacher shut the door and fixed it with a metal doorstop.
"I started realizing it was real when I began to hear yelling," Kluska told CNN.
"We're not willing to take that risk right now," the teacher replies.
It's not clear who the person at the door was. But the teacher quickly signaled students to scramble out a first-floor window into the snow, Kluska said. From there, they raced across a courtyard to another part of the building, where a law enforcement officer herded them to safety.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard confirmed during a news conference Wednesday the suspect never knocked on any doors.
More than 100 calls to 911 were made. About two to three minutes after officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old suspect, later identified as Ethan Crumbley, and took him into custody without incident, Bouchard said.
Crumbley has been charged as an adult with terrorism causing death and four counts of first-degree murder. He also was charged with seven counts of assault with intent to murder and 12 counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald said.
The suspect's lawyer entered a plea of not guilty on his client's behalf at Wednesday's arraignment. The judge scheduled a probable cause hearing for December 13 and a preliminary examination hearing for December 20.
During Crumbley's arraignment Wednesday, Lt. Tim Willis said two separate videos were recovered from the suspected shooter's cellphone in which he talked about shooting and killing students the next day at Oxford High School.
In addition to the cellphone, a journal was recovered from Crumbley's backpack detailing his "desire to shoot up the school," Willis said.
Later, someone outside the room who claimed to be with the sheriff's office told Kluska and his classmates that all was safe and they could come out, a video the freshman recorded shows.

Crime / Crowds Swarm Retailers In California Stealing Merchandise On Black Friday by Ogbenia: 7:13am On Nov 28, 2021
Thieves in California and Minnesota continued to target retailers with swarms of masked people making off with merchandise during the holiday weekend, police said Saturday.
Police arrested four individuals suspected of involvement in a "flash mob" theft of at least $400 worth of goods at a Home Depot store in Lakewood, California.

Shortly before 8 p.m. on Friday, around eight males entered the store and stole various sledgehammers, crowbars and hammers, Deputy Los Angeles County Sheriff Miguel Meza said. A store associate said the group threatened one customer who attempted to confront them.
Police later received a call regarding several vehicles driving with no license plates, Sgt. Jeff Newman of the Beverly Hills Police Department told the news service. Police stopped one car and took the four suspects into custody.

"We're currently working with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to see if there is a link to the Lakewood Home Depot incident or any other crimes that have been committed," Newman said.

Cities throughout California and elsewhere have seen similar crimes marked by an organized group of people suddenly descending on a store, stealing items and making getaways in cars parked outside.
A group of thieves on Monday targeted Bottega Veneta, an upscale West Hollywood clothing store

On Saturday, security guard Kevin Nishita died from a gunshot wound he sustained while protecting a KRON-TV television crew that was covering a story of an organized theft in Oakland, Calif., the station said.

The shooting occurred Wednesday while the crew was reporting on a robbery that involved 12 masked thieves raiding a clothing store. Authorities are offering a $32,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Meanwhile, a group of up to 30 people swarmed through a Best Buy store in Minnesota on Black Friday, stealing electronics before police arrived, authorities said.

The store in Burnsville, Minn., about 20 miles south of downtown Minneapolis, was robbed shortly after 8 p.m., the Burnsville Police Department told WCCO-TV.

Burnsville police Capt. Don Stenger said no weapons were seen and no injuries were reported, the Star Tribune reported.

"We don't know exactly what was taken or the dollar value," Stenger added.

Authorities also said a smaller group of thieves also broke into another Best Buy in the St. Paul, Minn., suburb of Maplewood.

No arrests had been made as of Saturday morning.

Earlier this week in California, Los Angeles police arrested three people Monday after a group of at least 20 broke into a Nordstrom department store at The Grove shopping center. Surveillance footage from the scene showed the thieves used a sledgehammer to break a window and enter the store.

Police in Walnut Creek, Calif., arrested three people a day earlier after a group of about 80 broke into and ransacked another Nordstrom store.

Best Buy CEO Corie Barry said this week that increasingly brazen and violent thefts are affecting company profits and making it harder to retain employees.

Organized thieves are wielding weapons such as a guns or crowbars in increasingly frequent attacks, she told CNBC.

"These are traumatic experiences, and they are happening more and more across the country," Barry said.

It was double celebration for the 14th Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Ishola, as his 61st birthday coincided with the presentation of a Letter of Credence to Her Majesty, the Queen, at Buckingham Palace, on Thursday.

He was accompanied to the palace by his wife. The letter was successfully delivered and he had a conversation with the Queen as well. Parades of horses and African traditional drums were some of the attractions spotted outside the palace.

He attended the Chartered Institute of Marketing, England between 1978 and 1981; went through the Principles of Investment Course, South West London College in 1981; and successfully completed the Leaders in Development Course at Harvard University in 2009.

The former minister started his career as a lecturer at the Department of Business Studies, Federal College of Education, Katsina between 1982 and 1983 (NYSC); and later worked as lecturer in Business Statistics, Marketing, and Economics at the Federal College of Education, Katsina (1983-1986).

Crime / Widow Of Murdered MBA Student Narrate Events Leading To His Death by Ogbenia: 7:13pm On Nov 25, 2021
The wife of the slain Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife Masters Degree student, Bolatito Adegoke has lamented that her husband, Timothy Oluwadare Adegoke was killed like an animal, saying he was only struggling to earn a living and take care of his family.

Bolatito, who spoke with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Yoruba in a video which was monitored by the Tribune Online said “even animals don’t kill themselves like the way my husband was killed.”

Narrating her ordeal and the trauma she went through before the discovery of her husband’s death, the widow said “this suffering is too much for us. My husband only struggled to be well educated and his life was just cut short like that.”

“I cannot say or stop my husband from being educated. He went to Ife to sit for the examination regarding his MBA programme at OAU. My husband was struggling to earn a living and feed himself and our family only for him to end up being killed.
“His trip to Ife was the third one. He had been there two times on weekends for his MBA programme. He arrived Ile-Ife on November 5, 2021. He called me after he got to Ife, having boarded an aeroplane from Abuja to Akure.

“He called me when their plane landed in Akure airport before he travelled by road to Ile-Ife. Later, he called me when he got to the hotel at Ile-Ife and said he wanted to rest so that he can read his book ahead of the exam the following day.

“I didn’t call him again so that I will not disturb him during his reading time. The following morning, I called his phone number, it wasn’t going through and I kept calling till the next day, I couldn’t get through to him. I was very worried.

“I had to call his brother undergoing his NYSC service in Osun State, at Osogbo. Luckily, I got the receipt of his previous lodging in the hotel and snapped it with my phone and immediately sent it to my brother-in-law. He traced the hotel and located it at Ile-Ife.

“The same day, the parents of my husband called to raise an alarm that they too have been calling the phone number of my husband for days without getting through to him.

“When my brother-in-law got to the hotel to inquire about my husband, they denied that he lodged there, but through the transaction on his phone, we discovered that he transferred money to another person apart from myself. The person was later discovered to be one of the staff of the hotel, who is a lady.

“The lady was arrested by the Police, including five other staffers and they admitted that my husband lodged in Hilton Hotels and Resorts. They later confessed that he was dead and took the Police to where his remains were buried. They killed my husband and just buried him. They made him suffer.

“Nowhere is safe in this country again. I want the government to help me with my children so that my husband’s death would not be in vain. How can they just kill him like that? Even, animals don’t kill themselves like that. I want justice.

“The owner of the hotel sent an emissary to our lawyer saying he was ready to pay any amount of money so that the matter can be settled. But, the lawyer refused, insisting that no amount of money can replace the life of my husband, who was gruesomely murdered.
“The government should not allow this matter to be swept under the carpet by ensuring diligent investigation and bringing to justice all the people who conspired to kill my husband.

Similarly, the aged mother of the deceased, who also spoke in the video said “the government should come to our rescue and send those who killed my son, who is the only glory of my family to where they sent my son. They should not escape. Government should not allow them to be released by the Police. I am pleading. Help us!

Foreign Affairs / American Music Star (DaniLeigh) Kicked Out On Instagram Live By Celebrity Boyfri by Ogbenia: 5:58am On Nov 20, 2021
The Internet is buzzing about DaBaby again and, like before , it ain’t a good look on the rapper. DaBaby took to Instagram Live to share an argument he was having with his girlfriend and mother of his baby. The video shows DaniLeigh in bed feeding the three-month-old child the couple share while DaBaby tries to record her against her will. At one point, DaniLeigh put up a pillow to block the camera but DaBaby was not about to stop recording her.

The video of the argument is cringe-worthy for multiple reasons, mainly being that the baby was being fed but DaBaby was too mad to let the child eat in peace. As DaniLeigh asks him to stop, DaBaby, seemingly agitated by DaniLeigh, presses on and the verbal argument escalates. There isn’t any proof about what led up to the hostile moment between the couple.

DaBaby allegedly called the cops to have DaniLeigh and their child removed from his home in the middle of the night. DaniLeigh tells her IG followers that she has nowhere to go but will figure it out.
In response, DaBaby posted a statement to his Instagram story allegedly calling DaniLeigh out for abuse he has experienced at her hands. The statement has been met with skepticism and disbelief by some who can’t believe that a father would kick his young daughter out of the house. All the while, DaBaby claims he started recording DaniLeigh feeding the baby for his own protection.

DaniLeigh offered her own statement calling out DaBaby for his actions and treatment of her and their child. The singer insinuates that DaBaby was upset that she had Plan B sent to them so she could prevent having another child with DaBaby who allegedly doesn’t want to use condoms when having sex with her.

Crime / Video showing Brutal Flogging Of Madrasah Students: Kwara Suspends School Head by Ogbenia: 7:35am On Oct 11, 2021
Kwara State government has suspended the head of Musbaudeen Islamiy Arabic school in Ganmo, Ifelodun local government area of the state for flogging five of the students including a female because they allegedly attended a birthday party in a club house.

The government had also set up a panel to investigate the incident while the affected students have been taken to hospital for medical attention.
The Arabic school is meant to strictly teach the students who were brought from far and near in Godly way and shun all forms of worldly affairs.

The video showing where five clerics were seen mercilessly beating the students with long canes had gone viral prompting the government to swing into action.
Vanguard reliably gathered that one of parents had called the school management to complain that the students that were put in their care for Islamic teaching were seen in a club house in Ilorin celebrating a birthday.
The video of the party where the erring students were seen dancing and drinking was reportedly sent to the management.
This development, Vanguard learnt reportedly angered the management to mete out the harsh punishment against the affected students.

Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu Commissioner for Education in a statement on Sunday said the school principal has been asked to step aside, while a panel has been set up to investigate the incident.
The statement reads,”A Kwara State Government’s delegation has visited the Arabic school whose students were seen in a video footage being punished for alleged conducts conceived to be contrary to the rules of the school.

“The team comprised the Hon. Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu; Special Assistant to the Governor on Religion (Islam) Alhaji Danmaigoro; Dr Saudat AbduBaqi of the University of Ilorin; Mallam Lawal Olohungbebe of Kwara State University; and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Rafiu Ajakaye.

“The team was joined by the Divisional Police Officer Ganmo SP Oko Nkama; and a representative of the NSCDC DSC Parati AbdulHameed.
The statement added that,”The government’s team carefully listened to the authorities of the Arabic school, the father of the sole girl in the video, and four other students involved in the unsavoury development.
“Regardless of the explanations of the authorities on the development, the self-confessed consent of the parents and regret of the affected students, the government seriously frowns at the harsh beating seen in the footage.

“Consequently, the government has directed the setting up of an investigative committee, comprising Muslim scholars, leaders and government officials, to look into the issue while the head of the Arabic school, who admitted to directing the punishment, has been asked to step aside pending the conclusion of the investigation.

“The government has also taken the affected students to a public hospital for proper medical examination and treatment. This is to ensure that none of them suffers any physical or psychological damage.
“The government appeals for calm while the committee does it works and submits a report for further action.
“The government commends the Ganmo Muslim community for the support given to the team.”

Blaming those who voted Buhari is clearly not the way to go.
We all should start thinking of how to rescue this nation from the hands of the terrorists who are in charge of our military and entire government.
It is no longer a case of what Buhari's agenda may be, we are far beyond that point as they declared Jihad and the war is on already unless we choose to live in denial.
So many Southerners are already fleeing the country which is what they want.
Those still in Nigeria need to ask themselves how prepared they are to defend themselves.
I can see the Igbos are getting ready but I fear for Yorubas who are busy speaking english.

Politics / Buhari's Obsession Is Not Just About Cattle, He May Have Other Agenda - Soyinka by Ogbenia: 7:29am On Aug 29, 2021

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJtEKZHSe6Q

Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has queried President Muhammadu Buhari’s insistence on establishing grazing routes around the country despite public outcry against the policy.

He said the president may be suffering from “mental delusion.”
“It’s like there’s some delusion about this thing, a kind of mental delusion about this thing. What is it?” Soyinka asked, as he addressed a press conference in Lagos on Friday.

The Nobel laureate added that Buhari may also be suffering from deafening noise from his son’s wedding bells last weekend.

“Perhaps the sound, the noise of the wedding bells (Yusuf Buhari) has contributed to the possible impairment of the hearing of the president of this nation. Because he does not seem to hear anything,” the professor of linguistics lampooned.

Citing a series of groups of people that have kicked against Mr Buhari’s move, Mr Soyinka wondered why the president was obsessed “about something which is being rejected, right, left and centre.”

Virtually the whole nation is screaming we do not want any open cattle grazing whether they go by the name cattle routes or grazing reserves. Even the all-powerful and untouchable Miyetti Allah, patrons of the murderous Fulani herdsmen, have gone on record that ranching is it,” Soyinka asserted.

In April and July, Southern Governors’ Forum at their meetings in Asaba and Lagos respectively announced a ban on open grazing in the region, setting a September 1 deadline for full implementation.

Soyinka alleged that there was perhaps another agenda behind Buhari’s setting up of a committee to recover old grazing routes across the country.

“And when we think of all that discussions, all that debates is settled in rational terms, along comes a new version of RUGA with the president insisting on sending his agents out to go and map out and recover the old grazing reserves when governments and people, experts, agronomists, businesspeople are saying this is the business and should be conducted in this particular way.” Why is the president obsessed about something that is being rejected by the people? The activist queried.

“The obsession is on such a level that even people who consider themselves rational, like myself, begin to wonder whether this is really all about cattle. Perhaps there are other kinds of agenda that we don’t know about.”

Sports / Video Shows LAPD Used Stun Gun, Placed Knee On Neck Of NBA Player (jaxson Hayes by Ogbenia: 2:58am On Aug 29, 2021

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceCD77aRKhk

As Hayes gasped “I can’t breathe” several times, another officer tells his partner “get your knee up,” the video shows.

LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles police officer briefly pressed a knee to the neck of NBA player Jaxson Hayes as the New Orleans Pelicans center gasped “I can’t breathe” seconds before another officer used a Taser on him during a struggle, according to body camera video released Friday.

The officers went to Hayes’ home in the Woodland Hills neighborhood on July 28 around 3 a.m. after his girlfriend’s cousin called 911. The cousin said Hayes’ girlfriend was sending her text messages saying he had become loud and violent and she was scared.
Hayes, who was not armed, became argumentative after officers said he couldn't go back into his home. He ignored requests from his girlfriend and his cousin to stop talking and struggling with the police as they tried to subdue him. The 21-year-old ultimately was booked into jail on accusations of resisting arrest after he was evaluated at a hospital for minor injuries.

“Jaxson Hayes is a nice young man, and he is back home in Ohio working out and getting ready for the upcoming season,” his attorney, Mark Baute, said in a statement Friday.

The LAPD’s Force Investigation Division is looking into the case “due to the possibility of force being applied to Hayes’ neck during the use of force,” police previously said in a statement. Los Angeles police have presented the case to prosecutors, who haven’t decided whether to file charges.
A police officer’s elbow was injured when Hayes shoved him into a wall. Authorities previously said Hayes’ girlfriend has declined to cooperate in the investigation.

Hayes, 6-foot-11 and 220 pounds, was drafted eighth overall out of Texas in 2019. He is the son of former NFL tight end Jonathan Hayes, who played for Kansas City and Pittsburgh.

Since George Floyd’s death in 2020 there is heightened sensitivity not just when it comes to police violence against Black people, but to police using any kind of force that restricts a person’s breathing. While Hayes’ encounter with police bears some similarities to Floyd’s murder by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, the differences are notable.

Hayes was on his back when a Los Angeles police officer’s knee was pressed to his neck for a few seconds. Floyd was pinned face-down under Chauvin’s knee for up to 9 1/2 minutes.

As Hayes gasped “I can’t breathe” several times, another officer tells his partner “get your knee up.” That officer immediately complies and Hayes is able to lift his head.

The nearly 15-minute, edited video of Hayes’ arrest includes the 911 call and footage from multiple officers’ body cameras. The incident at Hayes’ home began calmly with him answering questions in his driveway with his cousin standing nearby.

“What’s going on between you and your girl?” one officer asks.

“We were just having a little argument,” Hayes responds. “She was throwing some stuff at me.”

The officers say they need to speak to his girlfriend. They tell him and his cousin to wait outside. Hayes questions why he can’t go into his home and asks if they have a warrant to go inside.
