That is their policy. Why do u think your case should be an exception?
Solution: do NOT cancel the appointment. Fill a New form, write to them to swap it.

@oguguo, there's a chance anybody can be denied visa, though not on surname difference reason. Not every applicant has the same surname with their spouses and offsprings

What she has to do in this situation is to apply alone first to demonstrate home ties and after she gets through, she then applies for her kid. Applying for visa for her kid at the same time may likely spell doom to her application, especially if the VO asks for her husband's whereabouts.

lol..I dont think it fair to conclude like this. It is possible she is her daughter and they dont bear the same surname. What if she wasn't legally married to her father? What if they divorced and she did change of name? There are many scenerios this can happen. You should have just given her element of doubt

1) Anything is possible 2) You will have to do alot of convincing at the embassy that she is really your daughter, just hold all the necccesary documents that can buttress your claim.
