MPR is monetary policy rate.

MPR is the interest rate at which CBN lends to commercial banks; it therefore serves as benchmark against which other lending rates in the economy are pegged.

A raised MPR means commercial bank will increase their lending rate to customers.

Fund managers will try as much as possible to raise their rate to match MPR or more. Hence a raised MPR is good news to Money market and other fixed income investments.

It's not a very good news for the stock market though the market has other factors like earnings, government policies, romours or even sentiments that can affects it.

As an investor, the nearer or better still the higher MPR is to inflation the better for your returns.

As at today, the Stanbic IBTC MMF has reacted positively to the new MPR.
