Origin Tech Group Nigeria recently reinforced its believe in the Nigerian nation by sponsoring the Nigeria Cup of the Ikoyi Golf Club. The frontline indigenous food systems company partnered with the Ikoyi Golf Community Nigeria Association (IGCNA) owners of the Nigeria Cup as a major sponsor of the 2025 edition of the Nigeria Cup tournament during the weeklong annual event which celebrated the 65th Nigerian Independence Anniversary in Lagos recently. The Nigeria Cup Golf Tournament is a golf sporting tournament which celebrates talent, sportsmanship, inclusiveness amongst diverse nationalities and sub-nationalities that composed the membership of the Golf Section of the Ikoyi Club 1938 and the enduring love for the game of golf. The tournament which debuted in 1997 to celebrate the nation’s Independence anniversary has continued to not only garner participation from various layers of golf players across seasoned, passionate supporters, new entrants to the sport as well as enthusiasts but to attract discerning corporate stakeholders especially in view of its unique assets of corporate reputation as well as other brand leverages. One of the highlights of the 2025 edition of the tournament was the introduction of the tournament’s mascot ‘’UGOWA’’, which added zest to the tournament. Ugowa is an indigenous word depicting the iconic and symbolic Nigerian ‘’Eagle’’ in a playful mix of the major Nigerian ethnicities and sub-nationalities. It is a stylized African Fish Eagle, a powerful bird often associated with freedom, confidence and vision incorporating the major Can-Do spirits of energetic, intelligence and gracefulness often exhibited by Nigerians and typical golfers. In demonstration of its inclusiveness focus to cover diverse layers of the club’s stakeholders, the tournament incorporated qualifying competitions, Children’s, Caddies, Ladies, professionals and sponsors/guests’ tournaments as well as Sponsors-Get-Together, Independence Kitty, all of which were rounded up with the main Nigeria Cup tournament that heralded the Gala night and Awards presenttation, an event that not only ushered in 2025 Independence Day but demonstrated the true spirits of nationalism, friendship and camaraderie amongst various nationalities and sub-nationalities as well as set the tone of the mood for the 65th Independence Day Anniversary. In the beginning, being a Club for people with diverse background, origin and nationalities, there were tournaments held to commemorate important landmarks of such nationalities at the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938. One of the tournaments played then was the Independence Cup, like American Cup, Japanese Cup, and the Korean Cup among others. These events were organised to celebrate different national days. But in the case of Nigeria, there was a vacuum because the Independent Cup played at the time stopped. Thus, the Nigeria Cup came as a tournament that would celebrate the Independence Anniversary of Nigeria. Over the years, the Nigeria Cup has grown to become one of the most sought-after competitions at the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938 and it is still growing. In consolidating its partnership with the tournament, Origin Tech Group Nigeria continues to reinforce its believe in the possibilities of ‘’Renewed Hope’’ for Nigeria by associating with ideas that will keep unlocking Nigeria and Africa’s development potential through high-impact initiatives in line with its quest to become one of the most efficient, innovative top – 100 global companies with products and services that deliver happiness to its stakeholders. https://www.origingroupng.com

Executive Chairman of Origin Tech Group Nigeria, Prince Samuel Joseph Samuel, has admonished Nigerians to key into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of agricultural revolution captured in his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and as encapsulated in the Greener Hope Agricultural Productivity Programme (GHAPP) as a catalyst for unlocking the nation’s economic potentials. Samuel reiterated this position while receiving the Governing Council members of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU-Ile-Ife led by the Vice Chancellor at the corporate headquarters of the Origin Tech Group in the continuation of talks around developing robust partnership between the university and Origin Tech Group.“Agriculture is key to Nigeria’s growth potential”, said Samuel, “in driving Nigeria’s economic development.” He maintained that agriculture value-chain presents “an opportunity that can easily transform Nigeria’s economy into an engine room of prosperity through partnerships, strategic investment, strong governance, and sustainable practices and as such the pivotal role of tertiary institutions such as OAU is very important.” “The 21st century had opened new vistas for economic growth, and with agriculture now in its ascendancy, commercial large-scale farming and its value-chain stand out as the most promising tool for economic enhancement. Describing large-scale agriculture as the sustainable use of innovation, mechanisation, irrigation, water resources amongst other components for growth of food systems, market re-organisation, job creation, and improved livelihoods”, Samuel said “Nigeria was strategically positioned to benefit immensely”. “The Nigerian population continues to grow at nearly 3% per annum with a projection of 378 million by 2050, and with nearly 70% of its population are under the age of 30 leading to increasing urbanization and invariably an increase in food demand. Ensuring food security requires value chain that connects rural and urban areas so that the expected high demand for food is achieved. Hence, the role of stakeholders including institutions like OAU generating ideas, producing skilled manpower and boosting capacity is crucial towards achieving this food challenge,” Samuel affirmed. While responding, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire commended Prince Samuel and Origin Tech Group for the laudable and innovative focus that they are employing in solving societal challenges especially around food systems transformation. He submitted and agreed that we all should return to the farms as the panacea to solving our multifarious economic challenges. Bamire showed enthusiasm in the various works and projects being embarked upon by the company and affirmed that partnering with an organisation such as the Origin Tech Group is valuable given the abundant technical skills, access to resources, longevity in the agriculture space will provide the right kind of impetus to the future industry leaders we are currently training. He thanked the Chairman and management of Origin Tech Nigeria for their willingness to enter into this partnership and expressed his commitment and team to ensure its success. https://www.origingroupng.com

In a bold move to transform Lagos and invariably Nigeria’s food ecosystem, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday launched the Produce for Lagos programme, a strategic initiative backed by a ₦500 billion off-take guarantee fund. Held in Lagos, the launch drew dignitaries from across the country, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Niger State Governor Umaru Bago and their Kogi and Taraba states counterparts, whose states have formally joined hands with Lagos in what is being described as one of Nigeria’s most ambitious agricultural partnerships. At the heart of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Lagos, Ogun, Niger, Kogi and Taraba States, setting the tone for a symbiotic relationship. These partnering states will grow and supply essential crops such as paddy rice, grains, legumes, and tubers, while Lagos, with its massive consumption base, will offer a structured, dependable market. But beyond the fanfare and politics, the vision driving Produce for Lagos finds real-world traction in the insights of Prince Joseph Samuel, an accomplished entrepreneur, founder of Origin Tech Group, and one of the country’s leading voices in agricultural transformation. “This is not just another food programme,” Prince Samuel told reporters at the event. “Produce for Lagos is a framework designed to correct decades of disorder in Nigeria’s agricultural value chain by bringing order, capital, and commercial viability to the forefront.” Origin Tech Group, a Nigerian conglomerate with major ventures in agriculture, automotive manufacturing, and technology, has touched the lives of 1.8 million clients across four continents. Under Prince Samuel’s leadership, the company has pioneered agricultural mechanisation in Nigeria, providing rural farmers with access to cutting-edge tools and services. According to Prince Samuel, Lagos’ approach this time is different, and smarter.“The idea is simple but revolutionary,” he explained. “You begin by organizing the demand, the market, and then scale production backward to meet that demand. That’s how developed countries have done it, and that’s what Lagos is doing now.”The state, he noted, is home to a ₦14 trillion food economy, a market potent enough to stimulate supply chains nationwide. “We should not be importing what we can grow. With this market power, Lagos can command production across Nigeria if properly structured, and now, it is,” he added. To support this vision, the state is constructing what will become Africa’s largest food logistics hub. This, along with robust investment in aggregators and supply chain infrastructure, will enable farmers to obtain production contracts and secure low-risk funding from banks guaranteed by the ₦500 billion fund. “We are de-risking agriculture,” said Prince Samuel. “By eliminating uncertainty for both lenders and farmers, we’re creating a system where farming becomes bankable and profitable.”One of the key challenges in Nigerian agriculture has been post-harvest losses, which, for food entering Lagos, currently stands at a staggering 50 percent. Prince Samuel believes that Produce for Lagos will reverse this trend through investment in storage, cold chains, and efficient logistics. “Reducing post-harvest loss is the fastest way to make food cheaper and improve farmer incomes,” he said. “With proper off-take guarantees, farmers will not lose sleep wondering if their produce will rot or find a buyer.” He cited past efforts like the Imota Rice Mill, an ambitious Lagos investment hampered by poor paddy supply, as examples of why production must be tied to guaranteed demand. “The mill was a great idea. But this time, we are solving the supply issue first. You can’t run a mill without grain,” he noted. With over 30 years of experience, Origin Tech Group has led the charge in scaling commercial agriculture through mechanisation, training, and support. The company operates in agriculture, civil engineering, manufacturing, hospitality, and logistics, all geared toward economic empowerment and national development. “When we started in 1998, our goal was simple, to create value for the average Nigerian. That has never changed,” said Prince Samuel. His vision extends far beyond business. Known as a polyglot and scholar with degrees in divinity, philosophy, and Chinese history, he also serves as President of the League of Nigerian Professionals in China. His philanthropic efforts in education and youth mentorship reflect his deep belief in long-term nation-building. “Food is national security,” he stated. “Every government faces food crises every four years. Agriculture must remain a priority if we’re serious about stability, growth, and dignity for our people.”Prince Samuel stressed that Produce for Lagos isn’t a quick fix. It’s a framework that will outlive political cycles. With support from private partners like Heirs Holdings, whose Chairman Tony Elumelu pledged ₦25 billion, and a coalition of states including Taraba, Kogi, and Ogun, the programme is already gaining momentum. The initiative doesn’t just focus on what Lagos can grow internally, in places like Ikorodu, Epe, and Badagry, but also what it must reliably source from states with comparative advantages in crop production. “We are not idealistic,” Prince Samuel said. “Agriculture is hard work. But with capital, structure, and offtake assurance, we are making it viable. This is how you scale up a nation’s food security.”As Nigeria navigates a complex economic landscape, Produce for Lagos emerges as a hopeful blueprint, one grounded in strategy, collaboration, and a rare combination of political will and private sector ingenuity. At its core is a message of possibility, that with leaders like Prince Joseph Samuel and forward-thinking governors at the helm, Nigeria’s agricultural future might finally be taking root. https://www.origingroupng.com

Apparently concerned with frightening dearth of the skill sets in Agriculture, Nigeria’s foremost agribusiness and food systems company, Origin Tech Group, has instituted a structured internship programme dubbed ‘’Origin Eagle’’ to stem the tide. Speaking in Lagos at the graduation ceremony of the cohort 4 of the programme, Prince S J Samuel, Executive Chairman, Origin Tech Group stated that the internship initiative was created to address major gaps in Nigeria’s agribusiness sector. According to him, the idea emerged in 2012 after the company encountered several challenges within the industry, including a shortage of skilled young professionals. “One of the biggest challenges was finding resources and young talent. The second was transferring knowledge and skills, and the third was raising future leaders,” he said. He noted that many agricultural students graduate without adequate requisite skills and experience. “Some students go through school without ever seeing a tractor. Some never see crops being planted or harvested. Others never see major agricultural equipment throughout their stay in school. These were some of the motivations that compelled us to act – to provide ourselves as a platform where students can come to and learn’’, he said. During the graduation ceremony, which was held at the company’s premises in Oregun, Lagos recently. The ceremony brought together senior executives, industry partners, project stakeholders and proud interns who completed the rigorous training programme designed to equip young graduates with practical skills, discipline and leadership capacity. For Rebecca Oluwabusuyi, the year-long programme was more than just training; it was a transformative experience, “The experience was very valuable and hands on,” she said. “It taught us accountability, being resourceful, speed, and integrity.” Another beneficiary, Miracle Balogun, shared a similar sentiment about the programme’s impact on his professional growth. Reflecting on the one-year training, he described it as both challenging and rewarding. “The experience has been top notch and truly great because it exposed us to real life engineering and problem-solving skills,” he said. For the young graduates, the Origin Eagle Internship Programme has not only provided skills but also opened the door to careers in a sector critical to Nigeria’s future. And according to them, the journey that began with uncertainty has now become the foundation of their professional lives. https://www.origingroupng.com/
