Politics / Dogara Denies Padding 2016 Budget by okpiewon(m): 7:18pm On Aug 13, 2016
In spite of the allegations made against him by the former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, has insisted that he did not doctor the 2016 budget.

“I wish to reiterate that no Kobo belonging to Nigerians has been misappropriated, stolen or lost in this budget saga,” Dogara said on Saturday on his official Twitter account. “I wish to state clearly that there was no act of corruption by me during and/or after the preparation of the 2016 budget.”
Dogara also said he never claimed he could not be prosecuted as a lawmaker, noting he was not above the law.“I did not say or mean that I am above the law or that I am shielded by the law, or that I have immunity for any infractions on the law,” he said. “I am not above the law, and I would never imply that I cannot be investigated by security agencies or tried by our courts.”
Abdulmumuni Jibrin, who chaired the appropriation in the lower chamber until July 20, had accused Speaker Yakubu Dogara, his deputy, Mr Sulaimon Yussuff Lasun, House Minority Leader, Mr Leo Ogor and the House Chief whip, Mr Ado Doguwa of selfishly allocating projects worth N60 billion to their constituencies. He, therefore, demanded the resignation of all the principal officers.
Jibrin noted that he was removed from his position mainly because he had different opinions about how things should be done.
“My offence was asserting my independence and insisting we do the right thing at all times and expose corrupt people in the House,” he said in a statement.
But the Speaker insisted that all the allegations Jibrin levelled against were false, saying that the truth would soon be obvious.
“I further wish to deny any and all other allegations of a personal nature against me. They are fictional and scandalous untruths.
“I wish to appeal to the Nigerian public for patience as the truth which will vindicate the innocent in this saga will unfold soon.”

The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has commended the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, for his "leadership and unflinching commitment" that led to the recent passage of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Bill, by the Senate.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NESG, 'Laoye Jaiyeola, who made the assertion in a letter of commendation to the Senate President, dated July 22, 2016, specifically appreciated the Senate for the accelerated consideration and passage of the NRC Bill.
Jaiyeola noted that the passage of the Bill "marks a very significant milestone in Nigeria's history and further demonstrates the role of our legislature in the nation's economic development."

Politics / Aviation Fuel Scarcity: NCAA Advises Airlines To Scale Down Operations by okpiewon(m): 8:59pm On Jul 20, 2016
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has advised domestic airlines to scale down their flight operations following the lingering scarcity of Jet A1, popularly called aviation fuel.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Acting General Manager Public Relations in NCAA, Mr. Sam Adurogboye, gave the advice on Wednesday in Lagos.

NAN learnt that aviation fuel was currently being bought at exorbitant prices ranging from N160 to N200 per litre by the airlines due to scarcity of the product.
Adurogboye said that NCAA was concerned that passengers were not made to suffer unduly because of the scarcity of aviation fuel.
“Our directive earlier when this situation arose is that airlines should cut down their operations to services they are able to procure fuel for.
“Where they have sold tickets, then they contact the passengers ahead of time to avoid their coming to the airport and be stranded,’’ he added.
However, Arik Air in a statement by its Communications Manager, Mr. Ola Adebanji, said marketers had assured the airlines that the situation would improve this week as they were expecting delivery of additional stock.
The statement identified supply and infrastructural challenges of the marketers as some of the key factors responsible for the epileptic supply of aviation fuel.
“At the root of the fuel supply crisis is low stock due to the inability of marketers to source for the foreign exchange to import more Jet A1 fuel.
“There is also distribution challenge as the discharging of vessels bringing Jet A1 and other petroleum products are done in the same
jetty and loading various trucks for distribution to cities like Kano or Abuja takes considerable effort and time.
“The situation in the north is even more difficult since the product takes longer to be delivered due to the trucking distance.
“Oil marketers have also resorted to trucking of aviation fuel to the airports because hydrants are not consistently available at the airports,’’ it said.

Politics / EFCC Probes Fayose’s Associate Over N59.6m Mdgs’ Cash by okpiewon(m): 2:47pm On Jul 19, 2016
Detectives have uncovered alleged diversion of over N59.6million meant for projects under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Ekiti State by Mr. Abiodun Agbele, an associate of Governor Ayodele Fayose.
Agbele, who is in detention, is believed to have been a front to launder N1.299billion for Fayose through his company, De-Privateer.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) believes the cash was part of the N4.745billion paid ex-Minister Musiliu Obanikoro’s company, Sylva Mcnamara, by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for the 2014 Ekiti governorship poll.
EFCC operatives were probing more clues on slush funds and payment of kickback by contractors before uncovering alleged diversion of MDGs’ funds.
According to EFCC investigators, the MDGs’ funds were transferred from a First Bank (MDGs-CGS Local Govt) to BYKD Consult Limited, which is purportedly owned by Agbele.
The funds were transferred in four tranches as follows: February 18, 2015(N18, 159, 050; N15, 319,850; N11, 218, 500; and March 30, 2015—N15, 704, 325.
Upon receipt of the funds through his account 0059177132 in Diamond Bank, Bodija, Agbele allegedly diverted the cash to pay for choice vehicles from Affordable Motors, a leading car sales company.
A source said: “We traced the diversion of the funds. On February 19, 2015, about N40million was transferred to the account of Affordable Motors.
“Also, on February 20, 2015, N15million was remitted to the same auto firm. We have the records.
“You can see how funds meant for projects designed for those at the grassroots were used to buy vehicles from an auto mart. This is why we have renewed the detention warrant on Agbele.
“We have asked Agbele to provide evidence of the contracts he did to have received funds from MDGs account in the state.
“We are going to invite all those connected with the disbursement of the fund including the coordinator of MDGs and civil servants in charge of the projects.
“We are conducting a comprehensive investigation on how funds were allocated to MDGs and local governmet areas and the disbursement process.”
Responding to a question, the source added: “We are suspecting that the governor might have used Agbele to launder MDGs’ funds. As soon as investigation is completed, we will make our findings public.
“Our findings so far have revealed the same pattern of how the N1.299billion handed over to Agbele by Obanikoro was transferred to Fayose’s accounts.”
The N1, 219, 490,000 was not deposited in any account but it was kept in a vault in the bank. It took the bank officials about 10 days to count. The bankers refused to make entry until it was counted,
“Shortly after confirming the figure, Abiodun was used to coordinate the disbursement of the funds. On June 26, 2014, Agbele paid N137million into Ayodele Fayose’s account 10003126654 with Zenith Bank through Teller-0556814. Fayose’s BVN on the teller is 22338867502. On August 22, 2014, he paid N50million into the same account. By the records from the bank, Abiodun paid another N118, 760,000 into Fayose’s account on 27/8/14,” a document on the investigation stated.
“Based on the transfers, Fayose moved N300million to a Fixed Deposit Account No 9013074033 with Zenith Bank at 15, Olusola Abiona Street, Olorunda Estate, Alapere Ketu. He has the same BVN-22338867502.
“After that, Abiodun deposited another N100million from the N1, 219, 490,000 into Spotless Hotel Account run by Fayose and his wife, Helen Olayemi Fayose with Account No. 1010170969, Fayose’s BVN is 223338867502 and his wife’s BVN in the account is 22298990256.
“The governor and his wife are the two directors and signatories of Spotless Hotel account.”

Politics / PDP Crisis Stays As Sheriff Insists Makarfi Must Resign - See More At: Http://ww by okpiewon(m): 7:47am On Jul 19, 2016
The factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has called for the dissolution of the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee as a condition for reconciliation.
He also rejected the choice of Port Harcourt as venue of the party’s National Convention slated for August 17.

The last convention, which was disputed, was held in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Sheriff tabled these and other demands as conditions for truce in the PDP.
He told reporters yesterday that he had made it clear to Governors Darius Ishaku (Taraba) and Ibrahim Dankwabo (Gombe) that the caretaker committee was an aberration to the PDP constitution.
The former Borno State governor was receiving a delegation of PDP supporters from 17 local government areas of Abia State who visited him in Abuja.

He asked to be allowed to nominate 10 members into the convention committee, with the Makarfi group also nominating 10 members.
Sheriff said the convention should hold in Abuja.
He dismissed claims that he was the problem with the PDP, saying the crisis in the party was being fuelled by some persons who regard the PDP as their personal property.
He vowed to resist such persons, saying there will be no room for them to operate as long as he remained chairman.

Sheriff said: “People are very interested in our party and how the crisis will be settled before the Port Harcourt convention, which was aborted by a court order.
“Yes, we met and issues were discussed but all the issues I put forward to them was for the Makarfi caretaker committee to resign.
“Since it is (committee) an aberration as far as our party constitution is concern. I told them that I am not ready to be a permanent chairman but I want the party to be placed in proper stead.
“If he resigns tomorrow, I will ask the members of my National Working Committee (NWC) whose tenure will expire in 2018, including myself to resign.
“Then, we will set up a convention committee in Abuja and put respected members and leader at the wards as members of the committee.
“In that convention, I will give away my mandate that does not expire until 2018 and I remain the national chairman of this party until 2018.
“If the leaders of our party felt that we can find a solution without exhausting the pending court processes, then I am open to a political solution.
“There is nothing like what has been reported. If you do not stand on the truth, the end result will be a serious distraction.
The leader of the Abia delegation, Mr. Chidi Nwosu called on Sheriff to look into the flawed congresses in Abia with the view to correcting the anomalies.
Nwosu said the congresses were conducted by a few powerful men who sat in their hotel rooms and picked the delegates.
Sheriff appears to have lost the support of one of his main backers. Senator Buruji Kashamu yesterday called on him to embrace peace.
The senator said it was time for the disputants to bury the hatchet in order to reposition the party for constructive opposition role.
Kashamu who represents Ogun East senatorial district, stated this in a statement in Abuja yesterday.

Politics / 150 Killed As South Sudan Marks Independence Anniversary by okpiewon(m): 7:55pm On Jul 09, 2016
The streets of South Sudan's capital were charged with tension on Saturday, the nation's fifth independence anniversary, after an outbreak of heavy fighting on the eve left at least 150 soldiers dead.

Friday's violence in the world's youngest country represents yet another blow to a shaky peace deal that has so far failed to end the civil war that broke out in December 2013.
"The number of casualties is over 150 killed," said Roman Nyarji, a spokesman for rebel leader turned Vice President Riek Machar, adding the death toll of soldiers on both sides may rise further.

Politics / NNPC Cautions Against Panic Petrol Buying by okpiewon(m): 7:07pm On Jul 09, 2016
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has cautioned Nigerians not to engage in panic petrol buying, after members of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) went on strike.

“The corporation has in stock enough products to satisfy local consumption requirements for the next 45 days,” said NNPC spokesman Garba Deen Muhammad.
Petrol shortages caused lengthy queues for motorists seeking to fill their tanks earlier this year after fuel importers struggled to find dollars needed to pay for refined oil products due to foreign exchange restrictions imposed by the central bank.PENGASSAN on Thursday said 10,000 of its members, which include refinery workers and office staff, had begun industrial action over issues “critical to the survival” of the country’s energy sector. Muhammad also said the state oil company had begun talks with trade union leaders to address their concerns.
PENGASSAN said it decided to strike over issues such as joint venture funding and cash call arrears, which it said had stalled the creation of new jobs and investment in the sector.
Cash calls are the government’s financial obligations to joint venture projects between NNPC and international and local oil companies

Phones / Report Shows That Malware Hits Millions Of Android Phones by okpiewon(m): 10:55pm On Jul 08, 2016
Up to 10 million Android smartphones have been infected by malware that generates fake clicks for adverts, say security researchers.
The software is also surreptitiously installing apps and spying on the browsing habits of victims.
The malware is currently making about $300,000 (£232,000) a month for its creators, suggests research.

The majority of phones that have been compromised by the malicious software are in China.
Remote control
A spike in the number of phones infected by the malware was noticed separately by security companies Checkpoint and Lookout. The malware family is called Shedun by Lookout but Hummingbad by Checkpoint
In a blogpost, Checkpoint said it had obtained access to the command-and-control servers that oversee infected phones which revealed that Hummingbad was now on about 10 million devices. China, India, the Philippines and Indonesia top the list of nations with most phones infected by the software.
Hummingbad is a type of malware known as a rootkit that inserts itself deep inside a phone's operating system to help it avoid detection and to give its controllers total control over the handset.
The ability to control phones remotely has been used to click on ads to make them seem more popular than they actually are. The access has also been used to install fake versions of popular apps or spread programs the gang has been paid to promote.
"It can remain persistent even if the user performs a factory reset," wrote Kristy Edwards from Lookout in a blogpost. "It uses its root privileges to install additional apps on to the device, further increasing ad revenue for the authors and defeating uninstall attempts."
Ms Edwards said the recent spike in infections could be driven by the gang behind the malware adding more functions or using their access to phones for different purposes.
The malware gets installed on handsets by exploiting loopholes in older versions of the Android operating system known as KitKat and JellyBean. The latest version of Android is known as Marshmallow.

Politics / ANALYSIS: Saraki’s Trial: Understanding The Position Of The Law by okpiewon(m): 5:02pm On Jul 06, 2016
The lingering face-off between the Presidency and the Senate over the alleged forgery of Senate rules when the 8th National Assembly was proclaimed has elicited grave concern among discerning Nigerians.

It was alleged that the forged rules paved the way for the election of Sen. Bukola Saraki and Sen. Ike Ekweremadu as Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively.
The controversies that greeted the emergence of the two Senate leaders have yet to abate.
It will be recalled that Mr. Saraki and Senator Ahmed Lawan, both of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), contested for the Senate President post but the contest somewhat led to the polarisation of the party.
Members of the APC particularly resented the election of Mr. Ekweremadu of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as deputy senate president and this further polarised the party.
The development also provoked the onset of allegations regarding the forgery of the

Politics / Eid-el-fitri: Saraki Urges Muslim Faithful To Sustain Virtues Learnt In Ramadan by okpiewon(m): 4:23pm On Jul 06, 2016
President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has urged Muslim faithful in the country to sustain the values and virtues which the holy month of Ramadan taught them in their day-to-day relationship with God and fellow human beings.

Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu in Abuja, in commemoration of this year's Eid-el-Fitri also urged all Nigerians to remain steadfast and prayerful in the face of daunting socio-economic challenges.
He said that the present challenges are surmountable "if we all realign our character and deeds in tune with the wishes of Allah". He stated that the country can only regain its lost glory when the citizenry uphold the virtues of good neighborliness and eschew intolerance of other people's opinion, corruption, abuse of power, disregard for due process and disobedience to the laws of the land.
Saraki said: "I urge all Nigerians, across religious divide, to remain steadfast, prayerful and patriotic . The virtues of moderation, piety, regular supplication to Allah and being our brother’s keeper should subsist beyond the Ramadan. Beyond this, every Nigerian should seek to contribute to rebuilding the nation with renewed vigour.
"I also urge Boko Haram insurgents and other agents of destabilization across the country to retrace their steps and give peace a chance in the spirit of the Eid-el-fitri. Again, Nigerians who nurse one grudge or the other against the state should seek for legitimate and peaceful means of expressing their grievances so that it will be possible for their position to be better understood and addressed through constructive dialogue.
"Similarly, let us all refrain from using violence to express our stand on issues. Violence only destroy, it does not build. Let us also shun greed and other vices capable of undermining the socio-political growth of our dear nation," he said.

“Writing over 100 petitions to the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on an election conducted two years ago and was adjudged as free, fair and credible even by the international community, including the United States of America government is a demonstration of the APC desperation to throw Ekiti State into chaos just because the party lost power,” Fayose said in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media
The statement said: "How many petitions should have been written against the Presidential Election if APC could write over 100 petitions against an election held in just 16 out of the 774 Local Councils in the country.
"The IGP should maintain the culture of professional policing and maintenance of rule of law as done by his immediate predecessor, Mr Solomon Arase. He should be mindful of being drawn into needless political fights orchestrated by some APC governorship aspirants in Ekiti State just because of fear of 2018.

Politics / APC Slams Deputy Senate President Over Letter To UN by okpiewon(m): 10:30am On Jul 04, 2016
The party also called on Ekweremadu not to politicise the allegations of forgery levelled against him and the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The Deputy Senate President had alleged that there was an attempt to silence him as the leader and highest ranking member of the opposition in the country, all in the name of prosecuting an alleged forgery case.
According to the Enugu APC Chairman, Ben Nwoye, “After all, how many indicted citizens of foreign nations have ever written to Nigerian government to intervene in their matter.
“Calling on UN to intervene on the forgery amounts to seeding our sovereignty to foreign nations. The CIA director and many US senators and government officials were over the years indicted and convicted, did they write to Nigeria?
“Some of the officials pleaded guilty and resigned and never wrote to any foreign country, including Nigeria. Those involved should face trial and stop invoking tribal, religious and ethnic sentiments.”
“We want to advise them to stop heating up the polity. After all, there are millions of Nigerians who are facing different trials like rape, corruption, among others, have they written the international community for interventions? We don’t want a situation where the law of the land would be for a selected few," he added.
Nwoye also said Ekweremadu’s action was aimed at embarrassing the APC government.
Political observers feel Ike Ekweremadu is overestimating his importance.

Romance / Re: What Can One Do About A Snoring Partner? by okpiewon(m): 11:41pm On Jul 02, 2016
If you constantly feel exhausted, experience headaches for no obvious reason or have high blood pressure, it could be the result of snoring.
More than a simple annoyance, snoring is also the most common symptom of a potentially serious health problem—obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Over 18 million Americans snore, and it’s related to OSA. People who suffer from OSA repeatedly and unknowingly stop breathing during the night due to a complete or partial obstruction of their airway. It occurs when the jaw, throat, and tongue muscles relax, blocking the airway used to breathe. The resulting lack of oxygen can last for a minute or longer, and occur hundreds of times each night. Checkout how to Minimize Snoring here>>http://www.sarakinews.com/2015/09/suffer-from-snoring-this-new-doctor.html
redgem:
Most people are prone to snoring... Snoring is one big turn off for some people, me in particular... imagine you had a very stressful day and need a good night rest and you can't get one cos your partner snores so bad...... Damn!!!

I love my sleep and wouldn't want to be disturbed by the sound of a crying bull...but what can one do about a partner who snores

I've heard and read that snoring causes havoc in relationships, which I'm sure is true because one person won't be able to have a good sleep....and not having a good sleep, won't keep your mind at rest...and not having a rest of mind, emmm....you know what will happen next

If you find out that your bf/gf is a deep snorer, would you end the relationship?

If you decide to stay with him/her, will you tell them that they snore? I asked this cos I know some people don't really know they snore and won't be happy if they were told...

Married folks, what are your sleeping arrangements like, Do you and your partner sleep in separate rooms? undecided

How do you keep your bond strong in the face of snoring?

Can one ever stop snoring?

You will see options to opt-out from any particular sms campaign ranging from educational, health, sport, banking etc...
To Opt Out of Unwanted SMS From Etisalat

Note that it is absolutely free of charge.
Make sure you reply with the corresponding number from the list.

Be expecting similar thing from other network providers in Nigeria, because they must adhere to the NCC rules if they don't want to pay N5 million naira fine. Thanks to NCC for doing their job properly.

Politics / See Why Buhari Appologized To Bukola Saraki by okpiewon(m): 2:32pm On Jul 01, 2016
The Presidency has apologized to the Senate over the comment of the Representative of the Attorney General of the Federation during a meeting with the committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters. Ita Enang, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Legislative Matters (Senate) made the apology while fielding questions from journalists in Abuja on Friday. Enang said that it was wrong for the Attorney General’s representative Mr Okoi Obono-Obla to have said that the Senate had no right to have invited the attorney General, Abubakar Malami.
“I heard the statements after and I want to apologise to the Distinguished Senate, to the Committee on Judiciary and to the distinguished senators. “That statement ought not to have been made: the Attorney General is Attorney General of the Federation, appointed by Mr President, cleared by the Senate and responsible for the federation
“We are going into this matter, we will handle this matter but I first have to tender my unreserved apology for the impression it may have created to the distinguished Senate, senators and the committee members,” he said. The Senate had invited the Attorney General to appear before its committee on Judiciary over a forgery case instituted against its members. However, the AGF who was absent was represented by Mr Okoi Obono-Obla, Special Assistant to President Buhari on Prosecution.

Politics / Is Nass Panning To Amend 1999 Constitution? by okpiewon(m): 10:47am On Jul 01, 2016
The House of Representatives has given a tacit endorsement to the 2014 National Conference Report as it adopts the document for the amendment of the 1999 Constitution.
But yesterday, the Senate was silent on its own plans, though it emerged that the upper chamber had adopted the report of the fourth alteration on the Constitution which former President Goodluck Jonathan did not sign into law before leaving office.

Efforts to reach the Chairman of the Adhoc Committee on review of the Constitution and Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu yesterday, were futile as he did not pick calls placed to his two lines.
Meanwhile, the face-off between the Presidency and the Senate over the trial of Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu for alleged forgery of Senate Rules has deteriorated.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) David Babachir Lawal, had described the last confab as a “job for the boys, a remark which the Deputy Chairman of the Conference, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, took a serious exception to.
Several sources noted yesterday that the federal lawmakers made the adoption following their conviction that the document contained useful suggestions that could move the country forward on the path of greatness.
“It therefore means that the proponents and opponents of the report can now come to the National Assembly and do business with lawmakers who are true representatives of the people. It is an endorsement of the work of the elders and patriots who were paid from the national coffers to sit and discuss our common project,” a source said yesterday.

Politics / Bukola Saraki Eulogise Late Amadi Maduekwe by okpiewon(m): 10:15am On Jul 01, 2016
Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Thursday expressed grief over the death of two notable Nigerians, Captain Elechi Amadi and Chief Ojo Maduekwe.
While Amadi, one of Africa’s finest novelist, poet and dramatist passed on at 82 years, Maduekwe, a former Minister who took charge of three federal ministries at different times and later served as
Nigerian Ambassador to Canada and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was 71.
Saraki described Elechi as a literary giant whose impactful life will continue to be of immense educational benefit to Nigerians and the world at large. He noted that Elechi contributed greatly to national development having served in the Nigerian Army.
He also extolled the virtues of Maduekwe describing him as a "social-political engineer" whose exploits in the nation's political landscape will remain evergreen in the annals of the country. "Maduekwe was a brilliant, erudite and hardworking politician, a man of fine intellectual background who was not shy to take a position on serious national issues and will articulate the position to the admiration of both his supporters and

Politics / I Am Ready To Go To Jail-bukola Saraki by okpiewon(m): 7:54am On Jun 28, 2016
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, docked before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja over alleged forgery of Senate Standing Rules were yesterday granted bail.

Also facing trial with Saraki and Ekweremadu are the former Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa and the acting Clerk, Mr. Benedict Efeturi who were also granted bail.
The defendants were put on trial by the Federal Government on the allegation of forging the Senate Standing Rules used on June 9, 2015 to conduct the election that brought Saraki and Ekweremadu to office as principal officers of the Senate.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge, shortly after it was read to them, prompting their lawyers Mr. Ikechukwu Ezechukwu (SAN) for Maikasuwa, Mahmud Magaji (SAN) for Efeturi, Paul Erokoro (SAN) for Saraki and Joseph Daudu (SAN) for Ekweremadu, to move application for their bail.
Meanwhile, piqued by his arraignment, Saraki has declared that a few persons had taken over executive powers from President Muhammadu Buhari and were exercising the same against the wishes of Nigerians and the rules of democracy.‎
Justice Yusuf Halilu, after taking arguments from the counsel, admitted all of them to bail with two sureties each who must be Nigerians, male or female and who must have landed properties either in Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse or Apo Legislative Quarters.
The judge in his ruling held that Section 35 and 36 of the 1999 Constitution as amended presumes the defendants innocent of the charges against them and that it is normal and natural for them to be allowed on bail so as to prepare for their defence.
The judge, who took judicial notice of the positions of the defendants, said there was nothing by way of evidence to suggest that they would jump bail if allowed to go home. The judge, however, said that in the event of the defendants unable to meet up with the bail conditions, they should be remanded in Kuje Prison pending the time they will be able to do so.
Earlier, counsel to the Federal Government, who is also the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), Mr. Mohammed Diri, had told the court that he had no opposition to the bail of Saraki on the ground that he is the President of the Senate, so as not to cripple the activities of the Senate.
Diri, however, opposed the bail of Ekweremadu, Maikasuwa and Efeturi on the grounds that they are likely to evade trial, having allegedly evaded the service of the charge.
The prosecution told the court that if convicted, the three defendants were likely to be jailed for 14 years and that because of the gravity of the punishment, the court should be cautious in granting them bail.
Erokoro, while moving a bail application for Saraki, told the court that apart from the charge, Saraki’s name was never mentioned, either in the proof of evidence or in the police report, adding that he had not in any way been linked with the alleged offence of conspiracy and forgery.

Politics / Analyses Of Buhari’s Successes, Failures, Challenges, Projections -APC UK by okpiewon(m): 7:38am On Jun 28, 2016
On behalf of all members of party in APC UK chapter, I bring you fraternal greetings and congratulate you on this occasion of your branch first year anniversary.
When we came here last year on 9th May 2015 for the inauguration of your branch, I commended your very well organised programme as the best we had seen since branches started opening up
across the UK. Well done for keeping up with your tradition of excellence in your branch activities.
The APC led Federal government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, came into office with the message of “CHANGE” campaign. And the three cardinal points of President Buahri’s campaign promises were hinged on:
Buhari promised to fight corruption
Buhari promised to tackle insecurity
Buhari promised to create jobs.
The President took a pragmatic and distilled view of the APC manifesto of “A new party for a New Nigeria”. He decided to take a focussed approach on those issues he considered the main stumbling block to Nigeria’s liberation and/or emergence into a peaceful, prosperous and stable country. This shows that he had given great thoughts to his Presidential ambition and what he would like to be remembered for as President of Nigeria.

Politics / Read: Bukola Saraki' Speech On Commencement Of FCT Hight Court Trial by okpiewon(m): 7:07pm On Jun 27, 2016
Abuja, Nigeria, June 27---Today we the leaders of the Nigerian Senate reiterate our innocence against the charges filed by the Attorney General of the Federal Government of Nigeria at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on the allegations of forgery of the Senate Standing Rules document.

In our view, the charges filed by the Attorney General represent a violation of the principle of the Separation of Powers between the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch as enshrined in our Constitution. Furthermore, it is farcical to allege that a criminal act occurred during Senate procedural actions and the mere suggestion demonstrates a desperate overreach by the office of the Attorney General. These trumped up charges is only another phase in the relentless persecution of the leadership of the Senate
This misguided action by the Attorney General begs the question, how does this promote the public interest and benefit the nation? At a time when the whole of government should be working together to meet Nigeria’s many challenges, we are once again distracted by the Executive Branch’s inability to move beyond a leadership election among Senate peers. It was not an election of Senate peers and Executive Branch participants.
Over the past year the Senate has worked to foster good relations with the Executive Branch. It is in all of our collective interests to put aside divisions and get on with the nation’s business. We risk alienating and losing the support of the very people who have entrusted their national leaders to seek new and creative ways to promote a secure and prosperous Nigeria. As leaders and patriots, it is time to rise above partisanship and to move forward together.
However, what has become clear is that there is now a government within the government of President Buhari who have seized the apparatus of Executive powers to pursue their nefarious agenda.

Foreign Affairs / Al-shabaab Militants Launch Attack On Hotel In Somalia by okpiewon(m): 11:28pm On Jun 25, 2016
A large bomb blast rocked a hotel in the centre of Mogadishu, the Somalia capital, on Saturday, June 25. According to BBC, the recent attack is blamed on the Islamist group al-Shabaab. Officials said that a vehicle bomb was detonated at the gates of the Naso Hablod hotel before a group of gunmen stormed the building. They fired on people before reportedly taking hostages.

Al-Shabab militants frequently carry out attacks in the city in their bid to topple the Western-backed government. Confirming the incident, Maj Nur Farah, the police spokesman, said: “They started with a suicide bomb and then stormed in.” Earlier this month, at least 10 people were killed and 50 injured in an attack on another hotel in Mogadishu, which was claimed by al-Shabaab. On June 10, the terrorists gruesomely murdered four security agents after they were found to be spies. One of the executed people was beheaded based on allegation of giving out information about the terrorist group to the Unites States of America.

Politics / Militants Kill 50 In Ogun And Lagos Communities by okpiewon(m): 9:04pm On Jun 25, 2016
Barely six days after some suspected militants killed 15 persons in Imushin community in Ogijo area of Ogun state, another 50 people were feared dead on Thursday night when militants swooped on the neighbouring communities in Elepete and Igbo Olomu, the borderline communities in Lagos/Ogun State.

Saturday Vanguard reliably gathered that a large number of the victims were said to be landlords in the area, who were reported to be keeping security watch over the communities, due to incessant armed robbery attacks.
A source who was a landlord but pleaded anonymity said his colleagues landlords made bonfires in strategic points with a view to checking incessant attacks by robbers.
But, tragedy struck when the militants who were coming from where they had gone to perpetrate their illegal business, mistook the landlords for law enforcement agents and went on a shooting spree. The source said that 30 dead bodies have been accounted for from various points, and that many residents have fled the communities for safety.
Most residents who spoke with our correspondent lamented that the militants had threatened to attack the communities on reprisal attacks over the death of their colleagues few weeks ago.
