The SW is heavily dependent on foreign investments due to the low entrepreneural drive of the locals.
No foreign investment or any future transfer of foreign investments from there means very few jobs.
No wonder the rest of the SW states except lagos and ogun to an extent are like almajiris states due to low economic activities as a result of low foreign investments.
The SE on the other hand is driven majorly by the indigenous investments.
A more palatable ecomomic situation in the long run.
Chai! You are shameless!!! You don shift goal post to SW depending on FDI. Hello?? Even U.S depends on FDI!! They go all over seeking investors in the U.S economy -- Asians are some of the highest investors in the U.S economy (You can even get Green Card without stress if you invest a certain amount in the U.S economy as a foreigner, that's how important FDI is to them). FACT! That Foreigners find you attractive enough to invest in you speaks volumes about you as country/region. The SE indigenous investments are practically worthless in comparison to FDI -- go and ask why Obiano of Anambra is working tirelessly to attract FDI into his state in spite of all their 'indigenous investments'. Akwaibom is far developed than any part of your SW shitthole.
We can see what they use their allocations for unlike those dead-beats states in the SW.
Don't insult akwaibom again.
The SW has more potential yet it has been leaching on other regions for decades.
It has also greater poverty than any other southern region.
Your potential means diddly squat as you guys don't have the entrepreneural drive to harness it.
Btw, i don't care about the FG. Atleast they are not owing salaries.
Only in your wildest dreams will Akwa Ibom be 'far' developed than any part of SW. I put it to you that Ibadan alone, not to mention Lag, is far ahead of your Akwa Ibom infrastructurally, upon all your Oyel money. FACT. Besides, Akwa Ibom is among the owing states cheesy

Akwa Ibom, Rivers, others owe workers despite receiving highest Excess Crude money

Most of the 18 state governments whose workers commenced an indefinite strike on Monday (today) over several months of unpaid salaries are among those that collected the highest allocations from the excess crude revenue distribution between 2011 and 2014.
The General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Peter Ozo-Eson, said on Friday that the central labour movement had dispatched its special task force team to the various geo-political zones of the country ahead of the impending strike action.
The task force was constituted on March 19 at the end of the NLC’s national congress with a mandate to negotiate the immediate settlement of all salary arrears owed workers by some the 36 state governments.
Most of the states owe workers’ salaries and other benefits for between three and nine months.
The NLC secretary, who said the strike has since commenced in Plateau State, said a similar action was ongoing simultaneously in Cross River and 16 other states.
The states owing salaries are (in alphabetical order) Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Cross River, Ekiti, Imo, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kogi, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers and Zamfara States....

The Ondo refinery, according to the President, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, will generate over 10,000 direct jobs and end the importation of refined petroleum products into the country.
To the South East haters, when was the last time your entire region attracted a big enough investment that can potentially generate up to 10,000 jobs? Some of your leaders are even whinning that Dangote has refused to invest in your region, can one blame him? ? Even your 'billionaires' would rather invest in the SW cheesy Food for thought. grin

Dangote refinery to begin operation 2018 in Ondo State

Indication emerged on Monday that Dangote Group’s oil refinery project for Nigeria would come on stream in 2018.

The Director of Petroleum Refining, Dangote Industries, Mr. George Nicolaides, said in an interview at the Platts African Refining Summit in Cape Town, South Africa, on Monday that the plant located at Olokola Free Trade Zone, Ondo State, would process 500,000 barrels of crude a day.

“The site is being cleared; the plant is being designed,” Nicolaides was quoted by Bloomberg as saying, “We are close to the beginning of detailed engineering.”

Dangote had said in September last year that it had agreed on a $3.3bn loan with 12 Nigerian and foreign lenders to build the refinery as well as a petrochemical and fertilizer complex costing a total of $9bn.

The facility was initially expected to be completed in 2016 and the capacity of the refinery was put at 400,000 barrels a day.

“We have a very ambitious construction schedule,” Nicolaides said, adding that, “I’m not sure about the history of those dates.”

Dangote has named Engineers India Limited to do most of the detailed engineering work for the new plant. Construction contractors have yet to be appointed.

“Supplying the local market is the primary objective,” Nicolaides said, explaining that, “Naturally, we can move products to the region. The government is being very supportive, very enthusiastic about this project. We are not looking for or wanting any particular subsidies.”

The refinery, according to the President, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, will generate over 10,000 direct jobs and end the importation of refined petroleum products into the country.

The Ogun state's industrialisation project has received a strong boost as thirty-five new firms have opened their production plants in the state's industrial estates in the last two years.

Some of the new companies are WEMPCO STEEL MILLS, DANGOTE CEMENT, MAY&BAKER and GOLDEN PASTA. Others are GOODWILL CERAMICS, ADE DISTRIBUTION AND INVESTMENT LIMITED AND AFRICAN FOUNDRIES LIMITED. Apart from that, 80 new companies presently have their applications before the state government via the ministry of commerce and industry. This disclosure was made by the State's commissioner for commerce and industry, Bimbo Ashiru, "We need to realise that commerce and industry is the key. Let me put it this way, if you are talking about internally generated revenue, it has to be driven by commercial activities in the state.

The state, in its bid to maintain its position as the largest industrial estate in Nigeria, has introduced many incentives for investors and this include a one-stop shop which has reduced bureaucratic bottlenecks in seeking the necessary permits to do business in the state. Mineral resources in the state include Limestone, Bitumen, Phosphate, Kaolin, Tar sand and clay some of which can be mined for the next 500 years, according to analysis.

The State's industrial estates include Abeokuta-Lagos/Abeokuta estate, Ota-Idi Iroko estate, Agbara-OPIC estate, Ijebu Ode-Ikangba estate, and Ogijo-Ikorodu estate, others are Ilaro-Ibeshe estate, Sagamu-Benin road estate and Ijebu Igbo-Oru estate.
Hull Blyth plans $50m dry port in Ogun to boost economy, create jobs

Hull Blyth Nigeria, a shipping and cargo services company, has concluded arrangements to locate a $50 million dry port at Wasimi, about 5 kilometres to the cement plant of Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The dry port which, according to Christian Holm, managing director, Hull Blyth Nigeria, would be completed within a year of construction, reportedly has the possibility of creating hundreds of direct and indirect jobs for Nigerians, especially Ogun State residents.

Speaking in Abeokuta during a working visit to Bimbo Ashiru, Ogun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, the managing director disclosed that the dry port was conceived to serve as an extension of seaports in Lagos State when completed.

Holm said the construction of the proposed dry port would be undertaken by Hull Blyth Nigeria, a century-old shipping and cargo services firm, using the best technology available. “We want to take advantage of the state’s nearness to Lagos as well as its conducive business environment,” he said.

Responding, Bimbo Ashiru noted that government was ready to fast-track the acquisition and allocation of land to prospective investors in addition to the required infrastructure and security, just as he expressed satisfaction with the influx of investors to the state.

Ashiru submitted that the influx of industries and investments into the state was a clear indication that the state was taking right steps in its industrialisation drive. He, however, warned that government would not condone acquiring lands for speculative purposes to the detriment of its industrialisation drive.

“We don’t want people to buy lands for speculative reasons. Investors coming into the state must be ready to use land for what it is requested for,” Ashiru warned.

Otudeko advices Oyo on economy

The Chairman, First Bank of Nigeria Holding Plc, Oba Otudeko, has said for Oyo State to take advantage of the investment opportunities that abound in the state, government must show commitment to infrastructural development and access to large market.

Speaking at the state economic summit in Ibadan on Monday, which was declared open by the state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, Otudeko, who was the chairman of the panel of discussants, made reference to the thriving economy of Singapore, with less population and economic advantage than Oyo.

[b] said, “Oyo State is established and put on the positive road of development and progress. The social and economic indicators of the state present good news. According to a study in May 2013, the state was regarded as the third biggest economy in Nigeria after Lagos and Kano states. It had a $14.2bn Gross Domestic Product and its GDP per capital put at $2,165 with 60 per cent of its population of six million belonging to the working class.

“When you compare this with Singapore, which has five million people, it means Oyo has more economic advantage. But why are we not in the stage of development attained in Singapore? Oyo State has the second largest middle class population in Nigeria’s South-West with the major competitive advantage being the presence of research institutes like Nigeria Institute of Social and Economic Research, International Institute for Tropical Agriculture and others,” said Otudeko.

“For the state to be viable, a sustainable industrial environment requires government incentives, physical infrastructure and access to large market. The working population must be skilled, educated and supported by availability of raw materials, especially in agriculture, and supporting institutions. We must not forget that good security network is very important to the development we aspire as well as good health care system,” he said.

Speaking at the forum, Ajimobi said that the state was ready to partner with and offer incentives to investors willing to explore opportunities in the agriculture and other sectors in the state.

In his keynote address, the Chairman, Nigerian Economic Summit Group and Executive Chairman, Philip Consulting, Mr. Foluso Philips, said with good leadership, the state would achieve its aims and economic desires.

At the summit, the President, Dangote Group of Companies, Aliko Dangote, was represented by the company’s Executive Director, Knut Ulvmoen. The Director-General, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Dr. Joseph Odumodu; Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and other top stakeholders in the nation’s economy also graced the event.

Bro, you underestimate the power of propaganda. Hitler is a reference point, he whipped the Germans into a frenzy by exaggerating perceived injustices against them till he practically hypnotized them enough to worship him. Siddon there. There's no way it won't degenerate into that coz just like the last time, 'saboteurs' in their midst actually sabotaged their war effort, both Igbos and non-Igbos alike. Ojukwu had to kill so many of them via firing squad and jail others, e.g. Hillary Njoku -- the likes of Zik had to flee and remain in exile for the remainder of the war. And even today, a sizable number of Igbos don't support the neo-Biafran struggle. What happens to such people? They will certainly be killed or exiled. Not all Germans supported Hitler -- such people were either murdered, jailed or had to leave the country for safety.

It's beginning to look like the next war will be between Igbos bathing themselves in blood in the name of purging Biafra/Igboland of the 'sabos' in their midst, after that the extemists amongst them (however much of them are left) will then face the rest of Nigeria for a re-match of the last trouncing, then Naija will treat their ffvck-up once and for all. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/fresh-crisis-looms-in-pdp-over-mimiko-emergence-as-pdpgf-chairman/

By Henry Umoru
ABUJA- STRONG indications have emerged that crisis looms in the family of Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP over the emergence of governor Olusegun Mimiko as Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, PDPGF, the umbrella body of the governors.
Olusegun Mimiko emerged the Chairman of PDPGF last week and vowed to engage President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC in very constructive manner.

Governor Mimiko was elected Chairman of the Forum at the meeting, which was slated for 7pm last week Tuesday night and did not start until about 9pm, but came to a close at 12am last week Wednesday morning. The Ondo State governor replaced former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio who was the first to occupy the position following the formation of the forum.

It was gathered yesterday that some PDP members were already kicking against the choice of Mimiko as the the Chairman of the Forum and as a way of protest, have also written a petition to the National Working Committee, NWC of the party to as a matter of urgency wade into the looming problem before it blows into an uncontrollable situation.

Six Governors and two Deputies who represented their governors were at the meeting, when he was elected, while governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State was conspicuously absent.

According to a source at Wadata Plaza, National Secretariat of PDP, the NWC would hold a crucial meeting with all the governors today to brainstorm on these issues relating to how to move the party forward as well as the chairmanship of the Forum.
The aggrived governors were said to have protested that the choice of Mimiko did not follow due process bearing in mind that Mimiko only defected to the party recently.

Meanwhile, worried over the inability of PDP to convene a meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC especially after the March 28 Presidential election, Governors elected on the platform of the party will meet today in Abuja to brainstorm on when the party should hold the meeting, just as the last meeting was before the general elections.

Also as of the National Assembly resumes today, the PDP governors would at the meeting deliberate on those to emerge as Minority leaders in the Senate and House of Representatives.

A source told Vanguard yesterday that the newly elected Chairman of PDP governors’ Forum and governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko who will preside, would look at how to come up with names that will not cause ripples especially at this trying moments for the PDP.

It would be recalled that during the March 28 Presidential election where former President Goodluck Jonathan was the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and President Muhammadu Buhari was the candidate of the then opposition political party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, the PDP lost the election and suddenly became the new opposition political party in Nigeria.

Besides the removal of former President Goodluck Jonathan from office in the election by Muhammadu Buhari, the first of its kind in Nigeria since 1999, the ruling PDP also suffered defeat at both the Senate and the House of Representatives which it hitherto controlled, thereby becoming the opposition party at both the red and green chambers.

Following the defeat, the PDP will now produce the Minority and deputy minority leaders for both chambers in the national assembly.
According to the source the PDP Governors will also brainstorm on the problems of the party, its present opposition status, the present National Working Committee, NWC which has Prince Uche Secondus as acting National Chairman.

The Governors, Vanguard gathered will also have a postmortem on the party especially the election that culminated in the resignation of the former National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu and former Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees, BoT, Chief Tony Anenih and the emergence of former Acting National Chairman, Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed as acting BoT chairman

It would be recalled that the PDP Governors’ Forum was formed to drum support for the re -election of former President Goodluck Jonathan following the crisis that broke out in the Nigerian Governors Forum,NGF which led to the emergence of former governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers and former governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State as two factions then.

Former Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, a dire hard supporter of former President Jonathan was then picked as the pioneer Chairman of the Forum and since he was not returning,a new Chairman had to emerge.
