Career / Living With Fear Of Unknown: Steps To Overcome It? by ola20155: 2:33pm On Nov 11, 2017
The fear of the unknown can sometimes be very difficult to describe because this fear is nothing more than a mental obstacle. More than often, it curbs an individual’s ability to perform to the fullest in various walks of life. Every time an individual encounters an unfamiliar situation, the fear manifests itself, and prevents an individual from taking the right decisions in life. Usually, an individual chooses to run away from the situation, and in the process losses certain opportunities in life. There are times when an individual has to move away from his/her comfort zone to experience better things in life. The fear of the unknown prevents an individual from leaving his/her comfort zone.

If you can relate to the above symptoms of fear, you would be glad to know that you can get rid of the fear of the unknown by incorporating some simple changes in your life. The basic step involved in fighting the fear is to educate oneself about the fear and then confront it, rather than avoiding it. Remember, the fear of the unknown can make way into your life through various different sources. While some individuals worry about their new job, new relationship etc, there are others who fear about their body weight, public appearance and so on.

Understand your fear

First and foremost, you need to understand the cause of the fear. Remember, fear is a natural human instinct. Almost each one of us fears about something or the other. The fear of the unknown stems from certain things, situations or memories in life. Ask yourself, what you fear the most and what kind of situation you frequently avoid in your routine life. Once you are able to figure out the root cause of the fear, you will find it easier to combat it.

Learn about the real risk

In some cases, the fear of the unknown would be based on certain factors that are beyond our control. In such instances, educating oneself about the fear is the best way to curb the fear of the unknown. For instance, some individuals fear that the world will come to end in the year 2013. Some fear that they might get trapped in a lift with nobody to help them. These fears may appear dramatic and are beyond one’s control. Learning about the real risk can help one a great deal over here. For example, if the liftman assures you that no one has been trapped in the lift for more than 5 minutes, you will be able to eradicate the fear of the unknown to a great degree. The actual chance of the world coming to an end in the year 2013 is less than 1%. Over here, learning about these realities can ease your fear.

Power of visualization

Other methods that can be used to combat the fear of the unknown involve visualization and meditation. These methods will help you focus on the positives, rather than focusing on your fear. Over here, you will have to find a quiet place, which is immune from all kinds of noise so that you can meditate peacefully. Once you find a quiet place, stay seated and visualize in your mind how you are going to fight your fear step by step. Imagine different ways to combat your fear at least once in a day. Habitual practice of this activity will make you feel better. In this manner, you will already win the battle in your mind, before you set off to take real action.

Take baby steps

If you are living with a fear that can cause no real harm to you, then your best bet would be to take baby steps towards eradicating the fear. For instance, if you fear of public speaking, address a small gathering that involves your friends and dear ones to embark the first step towards killing the fear. If you fear heights, start using the stairs instead of the lift. These baby steps will go a long way in helping you fight your fear over a period of time.

Use humor to fight fear

Humor is another great way to get rid of the fear of the unknown. The idea is to ease your mind to ensure that there are no unwanted thoughts that are troubling you. Hang around with your friends and spend some time watching funny movies. You shouldn’t be taking life very seriously over here, so that you are able to kill the fear in a humorous manner. Remember, time once lost cannot be recreated. While being scared of something is a human instinct, you don’t have to spend all day long worrying about the unknown fear. Our mind tends to think about the worst case scenarios, but the worst may not happen at all.

Investment / 5 Positive Ways To Develop The Mind For Success In Business by ola20155: 2:19pm On Nov 11, 2017
Many people will give you tips on how to succeed in business. But one of the most permeating and effective ideas is to keep a positive mindset. If you think negatively, you'll often simply discourage yourself and give up too soon.

I’ve always told people who want to go far in life that all they require is a positive mindset.

The same goes for you. You don’t need money because the most important capital you already possess, your mind. You also need to understand that you look the way you think.

Your mind is an inner reflection of what you are outside. It’s what defines you– your personality and everything that concerns you.

Like I said earlier, the most important element you require to succeed in life is your mindset– that’s why the power of the universe gave you the ability to imagine. You’re at your free will to think anything you want to, and it all depends on you to think or meditate on the right or wrong things.

source: http://successprinciples.info/5-positive-ways-develop-mind-success-business/

If you are poor inside ( I mean, if you have a negative mindset) it will reflect in the things you do.

Having said that, the first thing you need to work on if you really desire to go far in life– as well as professionally, is to train up your mind positively.

I believe your appetite is already wet and you’re really eager to know how to renew your mind for the next level. Right?

No need to worry. Trust me, I’ll show you how to. But first, know this:

Your success, prosperity and greatness in life or business is not dependent on your geographical location– neither is it dependent on your financial state. In fact, the nation in which you live in, the economy in which you function (though are very vital elements) are not the determining factors of your success or failure.

Your mindset is so important and that’s why you need to build on it.

If you look at the very successful bloggers or online entrepreneurs today, you’ll see that they are people with big goals—dream thinkers– and people with the right mentality. No doubt they were able to achieve so much. You can also achieve more, and even perform better if you develop the right mindset.

Here are the list of things you need to build the right mindset.

Build your thought process.

What are thoughts?

Thoughts are machines of the mind with constructive or destructive meaning.

For you to achieve great success in life, you have to change your thoughts.

You’re the character of your thoughts. The things you have today– the level you’re in your life today — the material things you have and friends that surround you came as a result of your thoughts (You just didn’t know).

The totality of your personality–the things you do–and the character of your words are all expression of your thought process.

Here are lists of things to do to build the right thought:

Mount garrison over your heart and decide to only think on positive things. Don’t allow every thought come in because not all are good.
Accept and dwell only on positive thoughts.
Meditate on the right things. Read inspirational books and messages that will improve your mind and make you think the right way.

Make up your mind to change.

If you really want to build a positive mindset– it all comes down to you.

You’ve got to tell yourself that you’re ready for a new beginning and conform your entire being to it. Don’t just sit down there and say I’m going to build my mindset soon”. Don’t do that– but Follow up with action.

Get whatever help you can to change.

When building a positive mindset, you need people along the line to help you one way or the other. Look at the most successful people around you and try to get close to them.

Seek advice from them and ask about the attributes they invested their time on. You’ll be surprised at the things they did to become successful.

Get connected with likeminded people.

You can’t make it if the people that surround you are negative minded people who don’t believe in the possibility of success.

This is very important.

Do you have friends who discourage you from doing the right things or making the right decisions?

If you have such friends, please stay far away from them and connect yourself with positive minded people.

It’s not hard to make friends with positive minded people because they surround you ( maybe you just didn’t notice them). All you need to do is to work on your thinking and your thought will attract their being to you.

Believe in the possibility of a bright future.

No matter how things go rough, believe in the possibility of a bright and successful future.

Challenges are not meant to discourage us, but they’re steps to our promotion.

Don’t get discouraged if you’re not seeing any changes in your life. Stick to your passion—the things that works for you and with time, you’ll start seeing results.

If you want to make go far in life and in business, believe that you will get to the level you’ve always desired to be and with time, you’ll get there.

Career / 11 Basic Tips To Build Self- Confidence by ola20155: 5:10am On Aug 28, 2017
Simply put, self-esteem is an individual’s perception of their personal value and worthiness. Low self-worth can change the way you function in all aspects of life, from work to friendships and personal relationships. Whether you have struggled with low self-esteem your entire life or your feelings of low self-worth were recently brought on by challenging life circumstances, it is never too late to build your self-esteem

Low self-esteem is like driving through life with your hand brake on.” — Maxwell Maltz

An online negative review, a request for a refund from a customer or a flat rejection from investors can all cause our self-confidence to dwindle. Well-meaning but sometimes unkind comments from those closest to us can also hit us hard.

On top of this, we have to deal with our inner critic of self-doubt that constantly tells us that we are not good enough. When bombarded by so many elements that threaten our self-confidence, we need to take charge of building it up for ourselves.

As we teach at Skill Incubator, building a successful business requires a thick skin and unshakable confidence in your ability to overcome obstacles. Here are 10 things you can do to build up your self-confidence.

Visualize yourself as you want to be.

“What the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve.” — Napoleon Hill

Visualization is the technique of seeing an image of yourself that you are proud of, in your own mind. When we struggle with low self-confidence, we have a poor perception of ourselves that is often inaccurate. Practice visualizing a fantastic version of yourself, achieving your goals.

Affirm yourself.

“Affirmations are a powerful tool to deliberately install desired beliefs about yourself.” — Nikki Carnevale

We tend to behave in accordance with our own self-image. The trick to making lasting change is to change how you view yourself.

Affirmations are positive and uplifting statements that we say to ourselves. These are normally more effective if said out loud so that you can hear yourself say it. We tend to believe whatever we tell ourselves constantly. For example, if you hate your own physical appearance, practice saying something that you appreciate or like about yourself when you next look in the mirror.

To get your brain to accept your positive statements more quickly, phrase your affirmations as questions like, “Why am I so good in making deals?” instead of “I am so good at making deals.” Our brains are biologically wired to seek answers to questions, without analyzing whether the question is valid or not.

Do one thing that scares you every day.

“If you are insecure, guess what? The rest of the world is too. Do not overestimate the competition and underestimate yourself. You are better than you think.” — T. Harv Eker

The best way to overcome fear is to face it head-on. By doing something that scares you every day and gaining confidence from every experience, you will see your self-confidence soar. So, get out of your comfort zone and face your fears!

Question your inner critic.

“You have been criticizing yourself for years, and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” — Louise L. Hay

Some of the harshest comments that we get come from ourselves, via the “voice of the inner critic.” If you struggle with low self-confidence, there is a possibility that your inner critic has become overactive and inaccurate.

Strategies like cognitive behavioral therapy help you to question your inner critic, and look for evidence to support or deny the things that your inner critic is saying to you. For example, if you think that you are a failure, ask yourself, “What evidence is there to support the thought that I am a failure?” and “What evidence is there that doesn’t support the thought that I am a failure?”

Find opportunities to congratulate compliment and reward yourself, even for the smallest successes. As Mark Twain said, “[A] man cannot be comfortable without his own approval.”

Take the 100 days of rejection challenge.

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” — Eleanor Roosevelt

Jia Jiang has become famous for recording his experience of “busting fear” by purposefully making crazy requests of people in order to be rejected over 100 days. His purpose was to desensitize himself to rejection, after he became more upset than he expected over rejection from a potential investor. Busting fear isn’t easy to do, but if you want to have fun while building up your self-confidence, this is a powerful way to do it.

set yourself up to win.

“To establish true self-confidence, we must concentrate on our successes and forget about the failures and the negatives in our lives.” — Denis Waitley

Too many people are discouraged about their abilities because they set themselves goals that are too difficult to achieve. Start by setting yourself small goals that you can win easily.

Once you have built a stream of successes that make you feel good about yourself, you can then move on to harder goals. Make sure that you also keep a list of all your achievements, both large and small, to remind yourself of the times that you have done well.

Instead of focusing only on “to-do” lists, I like to spend time reflecting on “did-it” lists. Reflecting on the major milestones, projects and goals you’ve achieved is a great way to reinforce confidence in your skills.

Crime / Prophet Rapes Brother’s Wife In Anambra(photo) by ola20155: 11:54am On Jul 23, 2015
Detectives from Anambra State Police Criminal Investigation Department, Awka are currently investigating the alleged rape of a housewife by a white garment prophet who happens to be the elder brother to the victim’s husband on a farmland in Umuchu town, Aguata Local Government of the State.

The Criminal Investigative arm of the State Police Command embarked on the investigation after receiving a petition from a group known as Human Rights Awareness Initiative and Road Safety on behalf of the victim.

According to the victim, Mrs Chinasa Okoronkwo, the Prophet identified as Pius Okoronkwo raped the victim while working on her farmland after she escaped several sexual harassment from the suspect.

Okoronkwo, who is the founder of Covenant Sabbath Mission Yaweh church with headquarters in Umuchu, however debunked the allegation saying that it was an attempt to blackmail him after sponsoring the marriage between her and his younger brother.

Chinasa on her part admitted that the suspect sponsored her marriage but stated that the prophet had another motive for sponsoring the traditional wedding.

The victim added that after her traditional marriage, the prophet approached her and told her that it was his responsibility to impregnate her despite being married to his brother.

She stated that despite her husband’s poor economic status, she turned down the offer since he was still alive and fit to get her pregnant.

The housewife further disclosed that the prophet kept harassing her until he allegedly raped her on her farm, adding that he threatened to kill her if she refused.

Chinasa affirmed that she had to seek the help of the human rights NGO so that the suspect will be made to face the wrath of the law.

Confirming the matter, Comrade Gilbert Obinwa of the Human Rights Awareness Initiative and Road Safety, said they received a complaint from the woman, adding that they had to petition the State Commissioner of Police.

Politics / KILLER-COP: Court Jails Policeman For Manslaughter by ola20155: 11:42am On Jul 23, 2015
Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja yesterday sentenced a Police Corporal, Abang Okon to six years imprisonment for the unlawful killing of one Olalekan Ajayi.

Okon, who had earlier pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge brought against him by the Lagos State government, changed his plea following a plea bargain arrangement with the government.

The convict, who committed the offence on April 1, was accused of firing a gunshot that killed Olalekan at the Ladeja area of Ikorodu in Lagos State.

At the resumed hearing of the matter on yesterday, the state prosecutor, Adebayo Haroun, informed the court of the plea bargain arrangement between the convict and the state.

Haroun urged the court to approve the guilty plea as involuntary manslaughter.

However, after reviewing the agreement, Justice Ogunsanya refused to adopt it wholesale.

The judge noted, “The defendant having shown remorse for his actions on the 28th August, 2013 along Ladega Junction, Ikorodu, Lagos by negligently firing a bullet at one Olalekan Ajayi which resulted in his death hereby pleads guilty to the offence of involuntary manslaughter contrary to section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

“The defendant is hereby sentenced to six years imprisonment to take effect from the date of his remand in prison custody”.

She, however, turned down a part of the plea bargain which had recommended that the defendant should serve a six-hour community service in the nature of environmental sanitation as part of the punishment for his crime.

The judge also refused to adopt the part of the bargain which recommended that the defendant should be responsible for paying the school fees of one of the deceased’s children from primary to secondary school.

Religion / Pastor Fails To Rise Up After Instructing Members To Bury Him Alive by ola20155: 1:44pm On Jul 22, 2015
Tragedy struck in a Zimbabwean village after a pastor, Shamiso Kanyama, died after he was allegedly buried alive on his instructions.

According to reports, Kanyama had asked his followers, five members of the same family, to bury him alive so that he could summon more cleansing powers to help cleanse their house of evil spirits.

As the story goes, the members of the family, charged with the murder of the prophet, invited the pastor to their home in the village of Mazonde to help cleanse their home, believed to be plagued by mysterious deaths.
The accused family members, identified as Leanmore Mutero, Tonderai Muswere, Michael Muchengeti, Manasa Mutero and Nicholas Mutero, according to Zed 24 News, the country’s local newspaper, were charged before the High Court in Harare for murder.
Owen Tagu, the High Court Justice, told Zed 24 News that he heard how on that day, their priest, Zvidzai Muchengeti had invited the late pastor to attend the home in the Muzarabani district, which is situated along the Mozambique-Zimbabwe border.

The five men had requested the pastor to help them cleanse their home of evil spirits, because it was causing mysterious deaths in their family and the cleansing ceremony had to be performed on that day because a memorial service for a departed family member had been slated to hold the following day.

Pastor Kanyama had reportedly asked his followers to bury him alive so that he could summon more cleansing powers to heal the family that had been plagued by mysterious deaths.

“In response to our request to perform a healing ceremony, Kanyama ordered us to dig a grave and bury him alive because that was the way he summoned more healing powers to ward off evil spirits,” they explained.

Politics / Court Refuses To Stop Appointment Of Senate Minority Leader by ola20155: 1:33pm On Jul 22, 2015
A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday refused to grant an interim order stopping the appointment or selection of the Minority Leader of the Senate, a decision which may clear the way for a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio‎, to step into the position.

The plaintiffs – Alaye Pedro and Dr. Okechukwu Ibeh – had in their ex parte application for the interim order indicated that Akpabio had been tipped for the position in breach of the Senate Standing Order which prohibits appointment of a first term senator like the former governor into any principal office of the Senate.

But Justice Gabriel Kolawole, after hearing the plaintiffs’ lawyer, Mr. B. J Akomolafe on Tuesday, dismissed majority of their prayers contained in the ex parte application, holding in his ruling on Wednesday that the plaintiffs not being members of the Senate, lacked the locus standi file the suit and be granted such application.

The judge then adjourned the main suit till October 5‎ and opted to return the case file to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court who will re-assign same to another judge when the court resumes from its ongoing vacation.

‎Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Akpabio are the first and second respondents to the suit, which is marked FHC/ABJ/CS/602/2015.
The rest of the respondents are 16 PDP senators from the South-South, the region to which the Peoples Democratic Party as the leading minority party in the Senate had zoned the position of the Minority Leader.

The other respondents include Senators Nelson Effiong‎, Bassey Albert, Emmanuel Paulker, Ogola Foster, Ben Murray Bruce, John Enoh, Gershom Bassey, Rose Oko, James Manager and Peter Nwaoboshi.

Others are Senators Ighoyota Amori, Clifford Ordia, Mathew‎ Urhoghide, George Sekibo, Olaka Nwogu, and Osinakchukwu Ideozu.

In rejecting the plaintiffs’ prayer for the interim restraining order on Wednesday, Justice Kolawole held that he was not convinced that the plaintiffs, not being members of the Senate, had the locus standi to institute the action.

‎Justice Kolawole also refused to grant the plaintiffs’ request for an order for abridging the time within which the respondents to the suit have to file their defence.

Politics / Buhari Has The Capability To End Corruption In Nigeria – Kerry by ola20155: 1:07pm On Jul 22, 2015
The United States Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry, Tuesday, said he has the belief that President Muhammadu Buhari is capable of flushing out corruption from Nigeria.

John Kerry stated this during a bilateral meeting he had with President Buhari at the Department of State in Washington, DC.

According to Kerry, the United States government would do all it could to support the president’s fight against corruption and corrupt leaders, both past and current, adding that the decision of the president to bring a very significant delegation with a number of governors to Washington D.C. for the working visit showed his ability to introduce reforms.
“And I might mention the president is deeply committed to tackling the problem of corruption, which has prevented the country from doing many of the developmental and other initiatives that are on the table,” he added.
Secretary Kerry also described Nigeria as an important country, adding that both countries had very important interests together.

“Nigeria is an extraordinary important country. We have pledged with the president’s meeting yesterday to work very closely on development of the economy, on counterterrorism, on regional issues, but, very importantly also, to join together in an effort to do a better job of taking on Boko Haram.

“The president is deeply committed to this endeavour. He has a military background. He has himself been in combat. He has led the armed forces of his country and he knows what this is going to take.
