Politics / Is This The Death Of Bdcs/black Market? by olaNL: 7:25pm On Feb 20
With the recent policies like merging the rate of official and parallel market, paying out foreign inflow in its naira equivalent and stopping cash payment for PTA/BTA, one can easily conclude that they have restricted forex going out to the BDCs which is one of the cause of the current forex crisis.

With all these done, the CBN only needs to take a few more steps like allowing payment for foreign goods/service directly from personal / business accounts at the prevailing rates and that will kill the demand for forex at the parallel market.

Travel / Three Migrants Rescued After Stowing Away On Oil Tanker Rudder For 11 Days by olaNL: 11:38am On Nov 29, 2022
The three men were pictured hovering precariously on the vessel's rudder, just above the waterline.

The Spanish coastguard says it has rescued three migrants who stowed away on the rudder of a tanker that arrived in the Canary Islands this week.

The three men were found on the oil and chemical tanker Alithini II when it came into Las Palmas on Monday after an 11-day journey from Lagos in Nigeria, according to ship-tracking website Marine Traffic.

A photo distributed by the coastguard showed them sitting on the rudder of the Maltese-flagged vessel, just above the waterline.

They were taken into port, with Spanish news agency EFE saying they were treated in hospital for moderate dehydration.

It is not the first time migrants have tried to stow away on the rudder of a ship.

In October 2020, four people stowed away on the rudder of an oil tanker from Lagos, hiding for 10 days before police discovered them as the vessel came into Las Palmas.

The number of migrants crossing from north Africa to the Canary Islands has increased dramatically since 2019.

Reuters citied Spanish data as saying that migration by sea to the archipelago increased by 51% in the first five months of this year, compared with a year earlier.

But those who cross this way are risking their lives, and thousands of people die each year.

State universities must be part of the resolutions and the resolutions must be binding on the state govts

Were the state government included in the negotiations? Why should it now be binding on them. Let each state ASUU negotiate with their school owners.

I have but they declined, reason I became they have given me extension time before.

Maybe you should cancel the payment and generate another payment instruction from flywire then you should go to your bank and tell them to put the new reference number instead of the former one when they want to send the money. I think it should still be the same account number for both the new and old.

Please let me know if this method is successful I might need to do the same from the way things are going with the bank.

Anyone here who his payment timeline from flywire has expired before payment?

What steps did you take after it expired?

Thanks

Go to the flywire website and reach out to their support center. Explain that you are trying to pay from Nigeria and would require that the payment timeline be extended. They will add 14 days to the deadline.

This is exactly what I did yesterday. My deadline is supposed to be today, now it is 24th june.

Politics / Re: NURTW: Averting Fresh Violence In Lagos - Punch Editorial by olaNL: 8:34am On Mar 25, 2022
After reading this part of the article, it is obvious that the writer is being mischievous

But notwithstanding Akinsanya’s pullout from the NURTW, it is still business as usual in Lagos parks and on its roads.

NURTW is not peculiar to Lagos state alone and their mode of operation is same with other states of the county. Why does the writer only disparage Lagos state alone instead of the whole NURTW

It is scandalous that Lagos State continues to tolerate the extortion, violence and disorderliness of the NURTW on the roads. Its thuggish agents collect dues by force from drivers, tricycles and commercial motorcycles, even from non-NURTW members. Sanwo-Olu and his officials cannot be loudly repeating the Lagos ‘megacity’ aspiration while tolerating the atrocious operations of the unions.

How do you intend getting cash into your dorm account by the way?

If you fx cash, you will just deposit it the same way you do any regular deposit. Or you can transfer from your other naira accounts in to your dorm account at the official exchange rate. You should also be able to receive international payment directly into your dorm account.
Business / FX Upsurge, Can We Ban Bdcs? by olaNL: 8:10am On Sep 16, 2021
This is just a layman's thought.

With the persistent increase of fx in the parallel market, I am thinking that we should just do away with bdcs and street trading of FX. Whoever wants to use FX for foreign transaction should do it through dormitory account or directly through savings accounts (for smaller transactions).

Cash Fx-naira conversion can be done in any bank branch while cash naira-FX conversation should only be done at international entry points like airports and boarders. Cash hoarding of FX should be an economic crime.

Crime / 10 Die As Suspected ‘back-to-sender Charm’ Turns Poison In Kwara by olaNL: 9:12pm On Jun 23, 2021
Ten people were reported to have died some hours after having their dinner on Monday evening in Gwanara district, in Kwara North Senatorial District.

The incident, DAILY POST gathered, occurred at about 2200hours at the camp of the head of Fulanis in Biogberu in Gwanara district.

DAILY POST gathered that the victims died after taking their evening meal suspected to have been poisoned by the ‘charm’ allegedly given to them by one herbalist simply identified as Musa, which resulted into stomach pain and unconsciousness.”

A security source revealed that ” The charm given to them is known as back to sender, but was wrongly used as against the way the herbalist prescribed it to them.

” Four among them whose cases were serious at first were taken to Taberu hospital, a boundary to the Republic of Benin but later died.

” The remaining six victims out of which were children within the ages of five and eight years, including a man and woman of 40 and 37 years, that were referred to Bukari Kawo Memorial Hospital, Gwanara, equally died on Tuesday morning at about 0600hours,” the source added.

The names of the victims include; Ibou (father), Bake (mother), Juli (male), Sidiq (male) and Banna (female).Others are, Yon (female), Banna (female), Zenaib (female), Denbo (female) and Junbo ,(male).

The case, according to the source, is being handled by the Nigeria police, Gwanara Division for further investigation and findings.

When contacted on Tuesday night, the spokesman of the state police command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, said in a text message that he will react to the development on Wednesday.

Politics / Restructuring And The Hypocrisy Of State Governors [OPINION] by olaNL: 12:05pm On Jun 22, 2021
Calls for the restructuring of Nigeria governing and political system has become louder in recent times. The calls range from the creation of state police, resource control by states, devolution of power from the center etc. and most state governors align in one way or the other to these calls either because of genuine consign or just so as to be popular with their electorates.

What I find hypocritical is that this same governors refuse to implement democratic structures that is supposed to be guaranteed in a federation like ours e.g. the independence and autonomy of local government, the state judiciary and legislature even though not acting in accordance should be against the constitution. Although there are efforts made to implement these systems like the issuing executive order directing some level of financial autonomy to the local government and the recent strike by staff of the judiciary, the governors haven't fully taken appropriate actions. It is not uncommon to see a state governor sacking elected local government chairmen, and buying vehicles for judges and magistrate which should not be the case in a federal republic.

"He Who Comes Into Equity Must Come With Clean Hands" so I think the state governors lack to moral high ground to condemn the Federal Government on the issue of restructuring when they themselves are lacking in that aspect and instead should focus their attention into implementing democratic ideals in their respective states.
