Politics / Re: UK Won’t Pay You Hazard Allowance, FG Tells Doctors Planning To Migrate. by olaNL: 6:09am On Jul 17, 2020
As much as I am not against them moving to the UK, it's their right. But it is quite uncharitable to do so in this period when the country need them the most most especially if they were trained in our heavily subsidized universities and college of health. It is more of a moral obligation.

I know some people will talk about their inadequate payment and welfare here, and you are right to say so but two wrongs doesn't make a right. I am not saying that they shouldn't ever leave, but it shouldn't be this time of world wide medical emergency.

Even the UK that they are going to knows that it is wrong to poach our health practitioners at this time, that is why they are doing it through a third party and behind the scene. How will it sound that a first world country is "robbing" a Third World country of doctors at this time.

And to those that are in support of this, you will still be the one to come here and complain if you go to the hospital and there are no doctors to attend to you.

Politics / Re: DPR Paid 8 Billion Naira Salary Upfront In January - Premium Times by olaNL: 5:03am On May 28, 2020
Hmm. Though the money seems quite large, but there are two ways to look at it. You might want to say that the salaries of the DPR staff is on the high side for civil/public servant and the same goes for other high paying public institutions like NNPC, FIRS etc. But you also have to look at the practices of the industry under which the institution operates. The oil industry is known to have high salary benefits to its employees all over the world. So if DPR and similar government agencies decides to pay it's staff what non oil related industry are paying, it will not get required technical manpower to perform it's operations most especially in the top management level and it will generally have a high employee turnover as its staff will port to private oil companies that pays will at any given opputunity.

And the writer of this piece does not understand what upfront payment is. It's an accumulation of benefits that is given once a year and at the beginning of the year and it varies across the seniority level. So it doesn't mean that all the employee got similar upfront some might have gotten more while other got less than what was stated in the article above.

Well, at this stage, our economy needs all the help it can get. I just pray that the money will be used judiciously after Senate approval and disbursement. And this will bring about the much talked about agricultural revolution, food import reduction, export increase and economic diversification.

A non lazy youth preferably one will agroallied experience will already be thinking of how to tap from this. There is much wealth to be made from the agricultural value chain.

Nawa for the person that wrote this article oo. What Prof. said is not even up to one paragraph and they turn it into a novel. If you want to write an opinion piece then write it separately not that we will now start searching for Prof's statement in all your opinion and history that we already know of.

Politics / Re: Opinion: Boko Haram: Why Nigeria Does Not Need Deby's Fraudulent Approach by olaNL: 8:59am On Apr 09, 2020
Aptly put. It has always been on record that BHT use territories in to lake Chad region to launch attack and quickly retreat there when they are chased. If the Chad military was serious about the war against Boko Haram, when was the last time they performed any sizable operation against them even as the BHT are in their territory while we hear of the Nigeria military success against them almost on a weekly bases. And from the look of it this operation was only a one off operation that could not be sustained.

Family / Re: Help! My Husband Is A Night Crawler by olaNL: 7:18am On Feb 19, 2020
Ouchbabe, it would be difficult to give a good advice without understanding the full context of things.
When did his attitude of staying out late start? Is it after he lost his job? If it is, then think it is as a result of the job loss. Maybe he can't stand being the man of the house and not being able to provide for his family instead having to rely on his wife for means of sustainance and how he tries to cope with that is by making himself unavailable to at least make it look like he is occupied with something. I know you might not see it this way. But you should understand that men have their egos and have different ways of dealing with when it is down.
Another thing that I would advise is for you to know the kind of friends he is going out with and if you talking terms with them, you should try and make known your displeasure about his attitude to them in a respectful manner. If his friends are responsible, they will talk sense to him. They major thing that he needs is a sense of purpose and responsibility.

I agree with you that university staff should be paid for the extra work they do which is peculiar to the universities. But what i understand from the federal government point of view is that they cannot pay workers multiple salaries and those extra duties can be captured with allowances that should be paid by the institution you are providing the service to. To me, this seems logical.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Apply For 2019 NNPC Graduate Trainee And Experience Hire by olaNL: 10:27am On Oct 22, 2019
Though I have only been paid once, but this discussion about multiple payment refund for some reason just irritates me to say the least . I smell foul play.

If I were the one paid multiple times, I wouldn't refund the money just because of a SMS that said I should do so. Instead, I will wait for the NNPC themselves come out and explain what went wrong through their officially known channel of communication. I don't give a damn even if it is mukailu abi king or Lazarus that calls me himself. I applied and interviewed with NNPC not some Lazarus abi mukailu of a guy.

And to think that people easily fall for such cheap format is quite disappointing. We shouldn't settle for less.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the suspension of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) ongoing job recruitment pending the determination of a suit filed by one Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Olajengbesi, a public interest lawyer, had commenced the enforcement of the Fundamental Rights of all potential applicants to set aside the recruitment by the NNPC on the ground that it was discriminatory.

The recruitment had disqualified Nigerians above the age of 28 from applying for the vacant positions.

Olajengbesi had faulted the age criterion placed on the ongoing recruitment of the NNPC noting that it violated section 3(e)(iv) of the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure), 2009 which protected the public interest of Nigerians.

He had written to the then Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru, on March 26, threatening to drag the organisation to court for placing discriminatory age requirement on qualified Nigerians who would have applied for the jobs advertised by the corporation.

The NNPC had invited applications from candidates for a number of positions including trainees who must not be more than 28 years as of Dec. 31, 2018, and had graduated from a university or polytechnic not earlier than 2014.

At the hearing on Oct. 18, 2019, the applicant prayed the court to ensure that justice was served on the unemployed Nigerians who needed to know their stand in the matter.

“The matter has long been before the court and the rest of the matter is at a stake and under Order 8 Rule 4 of the Article II of the African Charter of Human and People’s Right (Ratification and Enforcement) Act.

“I pray that the matter is heard together with the preliminary objection filed by the respondents in the interest of justice,” the applicant said.

When the matter was called up, the applicant’s counsel informed the court that the respondent filed his counter on Oct. 15, 2019.

In reply, the respondent informed the court that he was sick and had surgery.

The presiding judge, Justice Muhammed Tsoho (Acting Chief Justice of The Federal High Court) informed the respondent’s counsel that his counter was not properly before the court and had not been regularised.

The court in considering the urgent nature of the matter granted an adjournment for the respondents to regularise their counter.

Tsoho however, ordered that parties must maintain status quo pending the hearing of the substantive suit.

He adjourned the matter until Oct. 29, 2019, for hearing.
