Lyon centre-back Jerome Boateng will appear in court in Munich on Thursday, September 9, to answer questions relating to domestic violence claims against the mother of his two children, which date back to 2018. The trial has been delayed as a result of a witness testing positive for COVID-19, and Boateng's lawyer has confirmed that he will appear in court today, September 9. Boateng's ex-partner, named as Sherin S, accuses him of assaulting her during a violent argument three years ago when they were on holiday. If Boateng is found guilty, the maximum punishment could be five years' imprisonment. A verdict could be issued as early as Thursday. One of the other issues from the trial could also be the custody of their two wins, which is the subject of a separate proceeding. Boateng, meanwhile, has always defended himself against his ex-partner's allegations, calling the issue "a private matter based on unproven allegations by third parties." Symbol of integration Boateng joined Bayern Munich in 2011 and became a European champion with the club, starting in the 2013 Champions League final, while he also was a part of the Germany squad that won the 2014 World Cup. In the years that followed, Boateng, the son of a German and a Ghanaian, became a symbol of integration. In 2016 he was welcomed by German chancellor Angela Merkel after being targeted by the leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Alexander Gauland. In the same year, Boateng was voted Ger

Cristiano Ronaldo's impact on his return to Manchester United seems to be as large in the dressing room as among the fans as Jesse Lingard adapted the Portuguese's trademark 'siu' celebration when scoring for England. Lingard struck home for England in their World Cup qualifier against Andorra on Sunday and celebrated with his own version of Ronaldo's renowned leap in front of the fans but added his trademark JL finger signature as he landed. Red Devils' fans online went wild and immediately picked Lingard's tribute to returning hero Ronaldo, who became the top goal-scorer in men's international football history earlier this week. 'Jesse Lingard doing Ronaldo’s iconic celebration,' wrote one United fan. 'His influence is unmatched,' followed by a goat emoji. 'Jesse Lingard doing the Ronaldo celebration is my jam,' said another Twitter user. Gilbert AD wrote:' Lingard dropped the siuuu celebration. Ronaldo influence in effect already.' Ronaldo's celebration is known by fans worldwide and consists of him leaping, turning in mid-air while bellowing 'siuuu' and landing feet spread. Lingard has fallen down the pecking order of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's midfield but after a stellar loan period at West Ham last season he nearly won a place in Gareth Southgate's Euro 2020 squad. There were many question marks over Lingard's future at Old Trafford as the Hammers were keen to make the loan a permanent deal this summer, but United refused and Solskjaer has reintegrated Linga

Mohamed Salah has two years to run on his Liverpool contract, but he is demanding 28 million euros a year if he is to sign an extension at Anfield. Currently receiving 11 million euros annually - and behind only Virgil van Dijk on the Reds' salary list - the Egyptian is hoping to more than double his pay packet with the 2019/20 Premier League champions. The Mirror have reported that Salah wants close to 30m euros a year, otherwise he won't renew at the club where he has won the Premier League and Champions League under Jurgen Klopp. The ball is now in Liverpool's court, and they'll have to decide whether they want to give in to his demands or to let him leave for another European powerhouse. Both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with the 29-year-old in the past. But Los Blancos' attention has turned to Kylian Mbappe for 2022, and there is every chance that they will have to pay football's highest-ever signing-on fee - to the tune of 80 million euros - to sign the Frenchman as a free agent next summer. That could then leave just PSG in the race for the player, should Liverpool decide to withdraw from contract talks

Manchester United are facing a shortage of replica shirts to sell, with Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival creating an overwhelming demand. United's kit supplier Adidas are already having to contend with significant delays in production due to the closure of factories in Vietnam, where typically 28 per cent of the sportswear giant's production comes from. There is already a potential four-month lag, but the situation has been complicated further by Ronaldo's sensational return to Old Trafford. The signing of Ronaldo, who will reclaim his iconic No 7 shirt, has created a huge buzz around United and subsequently has seen a rush to purchase kits. An Adidas spokesman told The Independent: 'We are working in collaboration with MUFC to try and meet exceptionally high fan demand for our new designs but expect low availability of certain products.' On United's website, it states that some shirts with Ronaldo's name and number printed on the back may not be shipped until November. Ronaldo, meanwhile, has been given the opportunity to hook up with his new United team-mates earlier than expected after Portugal released him from the national squad after he picked up a one-game suspension in their 2-1 World Cup qualifier victory over the Republic of Ireland. The 36-year-old headed two late goals to break the men's international scoring record and give Portugal a dramatic victory. But he received a caution for taking his shirt off while celebrating the winner, ruling him out of the tr

Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester United was not only big news in football, but it was a major international story and it was even rumoured to have provoked a special request from Queen Elizabeth. Unconfirmed reports on social media have sparked a frenzy of rumours in the last day or so, suggesting that the British monarch sent a note to the Portuguese footballer asking for his new jersey. More specifically, the story goes that the Queen was looking for 80 Manchester United shirts emblazoned with 'RONALDO 7' to distribute among her staff. In addition, she was also after Ronaldo's first match jersey, signed, once he makes his second United debut. If this outlandish claim is true, it would make Cristiano Ronaldo the only person on the planet that the Queen has ever asked for an autograph. The reports seem to be unsubstantiated, but stranger things have happened. The Queen is not a vocal football fan, but is an ambassador for the sport and has expressed support for West Ham and Arsenal in the past. Cristiano Ronaldo is a global superstar and his return to British shores could well be viewed favourably by politicians and royalty. That's not to say the rumours are true, but the fact they gained some traction perhaps tells its own story.

It's been almost a decade since the 2012/2013 season, when Manchester United managed to win their last Premier League trophy, and the Red Devils expect to compete for the title once again after a strong transfer window, one which was marked by the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford. The Portugal international left Juventus and made the switch back to England, but is his signing enough to inspire Manchester United to Premier League success? Despite also acquiring the services of Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho this summer, there are doubts about whether Manchester United's squad is complete enough to catch Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea in the title race. Gary Neville's doubts Following Romelu Lukaku's return to Chelsea, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville questioned whether Manchester United can compete for the Premier League title without a world-class striker in the squad. "I'm struggling to understand why Manchester United aren't going that extra step this transfer window," Neville said on Sky Sports last week. "Why are they not going in for Harry Kane this week? Because if I think Harry Kane joined Manchester United you could get up to 90-95 points, without him [they won't]. "They're going to have to buy a centre forward at some point. Why not get the man now and give Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] that impetus to get to that 90-point [target]. I don't think they can with just Sancho and Varane." Despite rumours of a potential departure this summer, Kane took to social media to announce that he is staying at Tottenham Hotspur this season. Meanwhile, Manchester United signed Serie A's top scorer last season (29 goals), and it remains to be seen whether a 36-year-old Ronaldo can lead them to the much-coveted Premier League title.
