This is a tough one,

I have been in UK now for over 16 years and will still prefer Nigeria to here any day. I have a very good job (Oracle Applications DBA), but I will still tell u that for half of what I am making here,  Nigeria is still better. For every progress you make here, you will really sweat for it as nothing comes easy, and be prepared that you will face so many obstacles and silent and open discrimination.
Dreams - most guys will never tell you what they do only to show you the blings they claimed to have, most people here do live a life of lies, and this they will never tell u,
Another advice here is , don't plan coming abroad with an illegal status, you will surely hate yourself and it can be demoralising, and if u do get in here, do not loose focus on why you are here, years go very fast here without you knowing, set proper goals for yourself, goals are not clothes and cars. Finally believe in yourself, and do not compare yourself with your mates, 'cos u never know what anyone does down here,

Finally, life abroad do get lonely, and it can never be like living in Nigeria,
U will make money here, but my God nothing comes free here, absolutely no kickbacks or contract deals,

I am planning to visit Nigeria, in the first half of the year and ám thinking of getting a plot of land or 2 in the low density area of Ibadan. As people try to inflate things once they know you are not current.

Can anyone please give me an idea what I should be expecting in terms of price, assuming here the there is a valid C of O in place.

As the nation awaits official clues to the cause of Saturday’s crash of the Sosoliso DC-9 aircraft in which 107 people died, investigation on Monday revealed that the ill-fated plane was 32 years old.

A South African newspaper, Independent, quoted sources at JAT Airways, the Serbian national airline, which once owned the plane, as having confirmed the age of the plane.

As at the time the plane went down, it still had the Serbian registration Code–YU-AJH–which it had used for several years on its tail.

A spokesperson for JAT, Zeljka Stojanovic, told Independent that the DC-9 had been sold to the Serbian national airline in February 1973 by its builders, McDonnell Douglas, and it had served the company for 27 years before it was sold to Sosoliso in 2000.

She said, “JAT sold the ageing planes to Sosoliso because they could no longer meet most European standards due to loud noise levels produced by the jet’s two engines,” the report said.

The official, who spoke to Independent on Monday, said Sosoliso bought the aircraft and three other DC-9s in 2000.

The spokesperson said JAT pilots who flew some of Sosoliso’s planes and engineers who worked on them had complained about “poor safety and air control standards” in Nigeria.

“JAT’s pilots also flew for the Nigerian carrier until 2003,” she added.

Sosoliso, which was established in 1994, began domestic flights in July 2000. It had a technical partnership with JAT Airways but JAT mechanics that maintained their planes left in 2004.

Stojanovic said the DC-9s were now handled by Nigerians.

“Now, the DC-9s are all theirs,” she said.

We must stop the attitude of thinking that we can avert incidents like this by our own will power. Just about 4 days ago a plane did crash into an adjourning street of a Chicago airport. Report did confirmed that the plane underwent maintenaince not more than 4 days to the crash day. Does that mean that they don't maintain their stuffs.

Things like this are beyond human comprehension, we can only pray to God to save us from situations like this.

Safety is only in God's hand.

Joftech, I do believe in prayers, but you cannot leave your doors open and thinking that since you have prayed to God, your things will not be stolen. Why don't we review the maintenance level of this aircrafts, and see if all our prayers will not be answered.  We have to be objective at times like this.

It is very sad that poor souls have to die in very horrible circumstance, but one thing we should appreciate is the maintenance culture in Nigeria is very poor as long as it makes money nobody really cares if it is safe, this aspect also goes to both private and commercial vehicles in Nigeria, they are mostly in very poor state, but nobody complains about it, but YOU CANNOT cut corners with airplanes, the result is always very catastrophic. For once we need to address this bad culture of ours.

I am an Oracle Applications DBA in UK, I do have materials (Oracle Books on CD) which can be of help to you to start with. On the area of Linux, I would advise to acquire the broader Unix skills instead of restricting yourself to any particular flavour of Unix, except you are planning to be a Linux Administrator. Depending on what your background is SQL should not be a big problem. Downloading Oracle software from Oracle (Technet/Metalink) is a possibility, but you will need to understand what you are doing before you can build your personal database and also building such DB do require System requirements which your PC (Windows or Linux Box) must satisfy. Is it possible to get another spyware ..about blank is more like a spyware has hijacked your browser....

From what you have described, it seems you are having spyware issues and the Microsoft Antispyware is not really effective. If you have access to Webroot Spysweeper it should be able to resolve the problem. Also the antivirus you mentioned is not something really known in the industry. Eliminate the spyware problem first before thinking it is a virus. Leave a msg for me here if you are having problem in getting the Webroot Spysweeper.
