CrimeTension : Boko Haram To Attack Lagos And Kano. US Diplomat Warns. by olowo72(op): 10:20am On Aug 28, 2016
John Campbell warned that Boko Haram has not been defeated
– The former US ambassador to Nigeria said the division within the sect could trigger attacks in Lagos, Kano
– He said the groups could even attack beyond Nigeria
John Campbell has warned that a splinter group within the Boko Haram sect may lead to severe attack in Kano and Lagos.
The former United States ambassador to Nigeria noted that although the terrorists seem to have two factions with one led by the long-time leader, Abubakar Shekau and the other recognised by ISIS, Abu Musab, al-Barnawi, they may likely regroup and attack further than the north east
The Punch reports that the former diplomat insisted that the division within Boko Haram may not stop it from conducting violent attacks.
“It should be anticipated that attacks on government and Western facilities will continue but not necessarily centred in the North-East. Instead, the two factions are likely to carry out attacks further afield, in Kano, possibly Lagos, and almost certainly in Cameroon and Niger. There may well be greater cooperation with the various criminal networks that are active across the Sahel.
“The paradox is that a splintered Boko Haram with rival leaders may pose less of a threat to the Nigerian state in the short term but a greater one to the broader region and to Western individuals and interests. Up to now, (Abubakar) Shekau’s ties to the Islamic State do not appear to have been operationally significant, while al-Barnawi’s link with al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb appears to have been limited to specific operations. That could change in the future.”
Campbell said that if a faction of Boko Haram falls under “operational control of Islamic State or AQIM,” there may be attacks beyond Nigeria “or even the Sahel.”
This would likely affect the US interest which he noted are centred around Lagos and the South-South.
“Kidnapping has been an Ansaru specialty in the past, often in cooperation with jihadist or criminal groups based elsewhere in the Sahel. Kidnapping of Westerners, highly lucrative, may also spike with Ansaru’s re-emergence.”
The former US ambassador to Nigeria said the leadership battle between Shekau and Al-Barnawi indicated that the terrorists were not defeated yet.

The very term 'hypermiling' was coined by Gerdes in 2004, and it became the Oxford Word of the year in 2008...
Hypermiling means saving fuel... I think it the best now that fuel price has gone up in Nigeria.
Hypermiling is generally characterized by a smooth driving and thinking ahead. Aggressive tactics like tailgating, which entails closely following the vehicle ahead to reduce drag, are against Gerdes' philosophy.

FoodPrice Of Rice Set To Crash Soon.see Why by olowo72(op): 1:27pm On Aug 27, 2016
Aliko Dangote is said to be very happy with this new development and progress recorded by his company
– Sources say the price of rice will crash further after commencement of sales
Nigerians’ challenges with the purchase of rice may soon become a thing of the past as Dangote Rice is set to hit the market stalls.
According to The Nation, the management of the rice-producing company has commenced the harvest of its first tranche and Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest billionaire, is said to be very happy with the latest development.
Sources within the organisation informed the business mogul has expressed satisfaction with the recent development more because it will help ease the pains of Nigerians, who are presently groaning over the N20, 000 per bag cost of the commodity.
Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, is said to be very excited about this new development.
The source said: “We are really excited about the progress so far recorded in this our rice projects. Once we commence the sales of our rice, I can authoritatively tell you that the price of rice will crash in the country as we should have enough, in the next few years to make importation of rice non-attractive again into the country.”
Recall that Dangote inaugurated its 8,000-hectare rice out-growers’ scheme in Hadejia, Jigawa state early this year, when he distributed rice seedlings to farmers.
The scheme is said to help reduce the level of Nigeria’s imports and potentially provide direct and indirect jobs to about 10, 000 Nigerians.
Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) also recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) to invest $1billion (N165 million) on establishment of fully integrated rice production and processing operations across Nigeria.
Farmland in Edo, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kwara, and Niger states totalling 150,000 hectares have been penciled down for the commercial production of rice paddy.
Meanwhile, Ganiyu Quadri, the chairman, Alimosho local government in Lagos state has revealed that the price of a bag of rice, which is currently sold for N18,500, will drop to N9000 before December.
Speaking after receiving a delegation of Rotary Club of Akowonjo 9110, led by by its district-governor, Patrick Ikheloa, and president, Shola Abidakun, Quadri gave assurance that the agro-business scheme run by the Lagos state government in Kebbi state will put an end to the high cost of foodstuff in the southwest.

EventsSee What A Lady Did To Waiter! So Unbelievable by olowo72(op): 12:16pm On Aug 27, 2016
Kasey Simmons loves to make people smile. But Tuesday, the 32-year-old waiter was the one beaming.
A customer at the Dallas-area Applebee's restaurant where he works left him an unforgettable tip.
"They ordered the cheapest thing on the menu," Simmons said. "Flavored water."
The total bill was $0.37. The tip was $500. A note, written on a napkin explained why.
A day earlier, Simmons was shopping at his local grocery store. In the checkout line, he noticed another shopper, an older woman who was clearly despondent.
Other shoppers passed right by her. Simmons did not.
He spoke to the woman. She didn't explain why she was sad, but Simmons lifted her spirits and even paid for her groceries.
"It was only $17, but it's not about the money," he said. "It's about showing someone you care."
The tip at the restaurant apparently came from the woman's grateful daughter. The note on the napkin described the mother's anguish as she tried to go about her normal activities on what was the third anniversary of her husband's death.
Simmons choked up as he read the message out loud.
"On one of the most depressing days of the year ... you made my mother's day wonderful," the note said. "You insisted on paying. Told her she is a very beautiful woman. I have not seen this woman smile this much since dad died."
Simmons' kindness made a difference, and the daughter wanted to let him know. But she did not let him know the woman's name. For now, he can only wonder and keep smiling, knowing that his simple gesture made a priceless impact.

EventsMan Return Home One Year After Confirmed Dead. by olowo72(op): 12:05pm On Aug 27, 2016
An Indonesian family got the shock of their life after their husband and father, 62-year-old Waluyo, showed up at their doorstep one year after they thought they had buried him. He was pronounced dead on May 15, 2015, after supposedly being involved in a car accident.
Everything started last year when Waluyo left his home to work as a street cleaner in the city of Semarang in order to support his family. It wasn’t long after his departure that his wife, Alim Eskatinah, got a call from the police who told her that he had been the victim of a serious car accident and was in critical condition at the emergency room. The whole family and even some of their neighbours rushed to the hospital to be by his side but the injured man died after a few days. “In the hospital he was in a coma. Relatives and neighbours all visited him. He then died on May 7, 2015. Many came to his funeral, all the neighbours came,” Waluyo’s daughter, Anti Ristanti told Indonesian newspaper, Detik.
Then, a few weeks ago, the man returned home. He was greeted with a unique mix of happiness and horror by his distraught family.
“Is this real or not? I have to step back [to see him], how can a dead person come back to life? I’m shocked,” his wife, Alim Eskatinah, told local reporters.
She was so shocked to see the man they had buried standing in front of her that she didn’t even believe it was him until she checked some distinctive physical traits.
“He had a scar on his back because of a skin condition,” Alim said. “He also had a missing tooth.” They all checked out, but just to be sure, the family asked him to name a few of relatives.
After passing these strange tests and hearing their story, the confused man told them that he had been in Semarang all this time, but since he didn’t have a mobile phone he never got in touch with them. He had no idea his family had buried him back home.
Shocked at the news, the police have visited the man since his return to find some answers to this mystery. Unfortunately, having been pronounced dead, Waluyo will now have to go through several lengthy procedures to legally return among the living. He will have to be re-introduced into the country’s population database and apply for a new identity card and family card, among other things.

Nairalanders, I want you to suppose a ease for a moment. Suppose that all the property you were worth was in gold, and you had to put it in the hands of blondin, the famous rope walker to carry across the niagara fall on a tight rope. Would you shake the rope while he was passing over it or keep shouting to him.. Go a little faster.. No! I am sure you would not. You would hold your breath as well as your tongue. And keep your hands off until he was safely over. Now our friends and family sometimes are in this situation. They are carrying an immense weight across a stormy ocean. Untold treasures are in their hands. They are doing the best they can. Be patient with them.. Just keep still and they will get you safely over.
#saturday motivation.
Have a blessed weekend Nairalanders!!!
