Senate President, Bukola Saraki was the number one trending topic on Twitter NG at some point yesterday and he was trending for two (similar) reasons.
Senators on Tuesday had tried to declare him as president of the nation.
Senator Eyinanya Abaribe (Abia South), raised a motion that since President Muhammadu Buhari is on medical leave, and the vice (acting) president Yemi Osinbajo is in Addis Ababa for the African Union (AU) summit, the country has no leader and as such Saraki should be declared president.
Senator Kabiru Marafa, citing the constitution also said, “if the President is not around, the Vice President should act, and if the Vice President is not around, the Senate President, who is the number 3 citizen should become acting President.”
Saraki however interfered and ruled Marafa “out of order”.
The senators had earlier turned down Osinbajo’s letter seeking the confirmation of Lanre Gbajabiamila, as the Director General of National Lottery Regulatory Commission.
t said that since Osinbajo had earlier reportedly said the Senate had no power to confirm nominees, it is subjecting the letter to deliberations.

buried is being unveiled again following nine months of restoration work that will be highlighted at a much anticipated ceremony Wednesday.
The shrine , which includes a 19th- century ornate edicule or shrine surrounding the tomb , is a key part of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem ’ s Old City.
However centuries of candle smoke and visiting pilgrims had left it discoloured and almost black.
Parts of it were also coming loose , with warnings that it was structurally unsound and posed a risk to the millions of pilgrims who visit the site every year .
Israeli authorities briefly closed it in 2015 over security fears.
Following a $3. 7- million ( 3. 4-million-euro ) renovation led by the church ’ s three main Christian denominations , the tomb has been painstakingly restored to its former glory — including a warm reddish-yellow colouring.
The tomb will be formally reopened on Wednesday in a ceremony in Jerusalem led by religious leaders and donors .
“ Before this the monument was black, ” chief renovator Antonia Moropoulou told AFP at the site .
“ This is the actual colour of the monument, the colour of hope . ”
Unlike other parts of the church , which were renovated between the 1960s and 1990s , the edicule had been neglected.
Moropoulou explained that they had systematically dismantled, cleaned and renovated almost all of the edicule, including the columns and upper and inner domes .
A window has been installed to allow pilgrims to see the bare stone of the ancient burial cave for the first time .
The new structural integrity means a protective cage installed 70 years ago by the British is no longer necessary .
“ The deformations of the holy edicule are addressed and the structural integrity is assured, ” Moropoulou said .
Samuel Aghoyan , the superior of the Armenian Church at the Sepulchre which co -financed the project , said that after the renovation the edicule looked “ like a brand new building” .
– Dramatic moment –
In October , perhaps the most dramatic moment in the renovation occurred when the cave thought to be the tomb of Jesus was opened for the first time in centuries .
Marble slabs were removed to allow for the chamber ’ s reinforcement.
They found a top slab dating from the era of the Crusades , indicating that the tomb had not been opened for 700 years , Moropoulou said .
Underneath they found another from the era of Constantine the Great , the emperor who began the Roman empire ’ s transition to Christianity in the fourth century AD.
“ When we opened the slabs we discovered within the internal masonry all the layers of history — from Constantinian to Byzantine , to Crusaders to Renaissance , ” Moropoulou said .
Whether the site is indeed the place of Jesus ’ s burial has long been a matter of dispute.
Some Christians believe he was buried in the Garden Tomb , outside the walls of Jerusalem ’ s Old City , but Moropoulou said their findings supported the Sepulchre as the location.
Asked if the slabs supported the argument that Jesus was buried there , she said it was “ not a matter of an argument” .
“ It is a matter of revealing a tomb which is alive and which is influencing us working here and all the world . ”

The work is not the end of plans to renovate the church .
Aghoyan said they have “ tentative ” plans to fix the basement of the edicule as well as the “ entire floor of the church ” .
Such work would require around $6 million, according to estimates .
The Greek Orthodox , Armenian and Roman Catholic denominations share custody of the church , but disputes between the three have led to renovations being delayed for decades.
Aghoyan admitted there were tensions between the churches at times.
“ We are not in love with each but we love each other, ” he said with a smile.

Obafemi Awolowo university's awolowo hall, popularly called Awo,is the male's hostel with the greatest and radical history. Both political and entertainment.
Awo week, a customary  end of session celebration, ends yearly with the Ewa day. A day when the excos of the hall arrange for a large quantity of beans to be cooked en mass.
This years edition was no different as the exco did same, and the response of studemts was overwhelming.

A 14-year-old girl, Ralia Suleiman, is in need of N1 million after she lost an eye due to being flogged by a teacher with a koboko.

The JSS3 student’s eye was damaged after she was flogged by a teacher, Moses Auta with a horsewhip embedded with iron pellets,

Premium Times reports that the incident occoured at Government Junior Secondary School, Kachia where Auta who is also the disciplinary teacher used a koboko toed with iron balls to beat The girl




Her father, Suleiman Umar Kachia who is a farmer said the girl would need N1 million to fix her eye and lamented that he did not have such amount.

He said: “I reported the case to Kachia Police Division. He (the teacher) took her to Kachia General Hospital, where we were referred to the National Eye Centre in Kaduna.

“The National Eye Centre said her eye lens has been destroyed and she cannot see from the eye. The only treatment they gave was to adjust the eyeball from falling into her skull and to stop the bleeding.”

Mr. Suleiman however said a private eye clinic in Kaduna said the eyesight could be restored, “but they demanded a deposit of N1million.

“Where do I raise N1million? Even if I will sell my house and the whole of my harvest, it can’t be up to that amount. It is even my relations that are paying the bill for the National Eye Centre treatment now.

“I am appealing to the Kaduna State Governor, the police and other relevant agencies and well-meaning Nigerians to please come to our aid.

“We are also seeking justice for the unjust treatment by the teacher who purposefully rendered my daughter one eyed and is roaming about freely as if nothing happened.”

Ralia also narrated what happened on the fateful day saying the teacher had called about 20 students to the laboratory to punish them.


She said: “He ordered all of us to roll on the dusty bare floor of the laboratory, and started beating each of us with the cane attached with iron balls.

“I told him I was sick and had injuries on my back, but he insisted on beating me until the cane hit me on my right eye and blood started gushing out of it. Other students started shouting, but he didn’t stop until a female teacher rushed in and stopped him.

“Even other teachers in the school have been complaining about the way he has been indiscriminately beating and injuring students.”

“The doctor said I will never see from the eye again, unless I am taken abroad for proper medical attention.

“I am missing school because of our frequent visits to hospital for follow up.”
