It is known that Ijebu and Itsekiri share same dialect. Between these two locations are Mahin and Ilaje. Given the linearity in their geo-positions, it is hard not to appreciate that all four - Ijebu, Mahin, Ilaje and Itsekiri - speak same dialect.

Referring back to Kasumoto's hint on Ijebu's foreign footprint, is it possible that what is described simply as a raid and incursion was actually a war from a settlement of foreign people on the coast?

If Ijebu came from Wadai, as their history shows, then they are part of the ancient Himyarites, the Yemeni dynastic rulers of ancient times. They were boat peoples and seafarers.

If Ugbo was a separate from Ijebu and was indigeneous, how did they end up from the savannah and became riverine people?

Mahin is a part of the Ilajes. That is where I am from. Ugbo is another part. They preceeded the Mahins to the coast. But the Mahins later dominated the whole of Ilaje; thats the reason you see olden maps indicating the whole coastal south of Ondo as MAHIN.

In Ilaje, there are 4 principal clans(including Mahin and Ugbo), and 4 smaller polities. There is no big difference between "Ilaje" and "Mahin" aside one is the larger Umbrella; while the latter is just a part of the clan.

As for the "minor-dialects", it abound every where in Yoruba land. To an extent, Ibadan(ki ni sho. Lol) sound a little different to the Oyo proper dialect: likewise Ogbomoso, Ilorin, Ofa and other Ibolo towns. Even a slight difference abound in Epe-Ijebu/ Ikorodu-Ijebu and Ijebu-Igbo and Remo-Ijebu. Also the same for the Egba and Ekiti towns and clans. WE ARE ALL ILAJE.

The Ugbo-Igbo(aborigines) link is an hoax. The Ugbos got their name from a different reason. I would go back to check it. The Igbo group are not likely Yorubas. A pure descendant of the group still reside in Ife. He is a chief and his great-great-infinite-grand father was appointed by Oduduwa. Their language is different like lizard for example. I have forgotten, but one hitorian/ inner person close to him posted it one Wikipedia(even though Wikipedia isn't reliable for African history). I would try to get back the Info for you.

Please whose cause are you on?
Which of the families in ilorin town would support an oba as a ruler? The only ones that tried it earlier failed. Every household in ilorin has a trace to the fulani even though they do not speak it. Unless the descendants of afonja rise and rewrite history which is not possible again,an oba can never rule in ilorin emirate it will always be emir.
are you fulani, hausa, tapa/nupe, bariba or yoruba? If neither, you have no authority on this matter

macof:

The emir of ilorin might be a descendant of Alimi but his ancestry as been mixed with more Yoruba.

He is living in yorubaland, he speaks Yoruba better than any language

He as Yoruba names

All ilorin, both original Yoruba and the descendants of the slave fulanis are more Yoruba than any other than.

Benin is ruled by a descendant of Oranmiyan, why is nobody claiming the Benin are slaves to Yoruba?

Ilaje is ruled by Yoruba, still some people try to distinguish them and call them Ijaw.

Why is no fulani even arguing this case?
Why ibos who have no business?

Instead of u to face ur eggnog group you poke nose into Yoruba affairs all the time

if you wan to make an example, do not bring the most precious beings on earth, the ILAJES into it. How can someone wake up to remove an ofspring of Oduduwa and put him in another place. No Ilajes would deny his Yorubaness.

Even if we want to deny Yoruba, Ijaws would be the last of all people to join. After they attacked our land; despite the help we gave them in the ND struggle. The lawyers, advocates and Human Right activist that had the boldness to challenge Obasanjo for the Odi killing in 1999 were mainly Ilajes. Yet, they attacked us.

If you feel the troubles of the world is to much for you to bare, and you want eternal rest with Jesus, or Alujan, come to Mahin and shout "ILAJES ARE IJAWS". Then you would know whatsup.

You are perfectly correct.. Names like SOTONYE By heavens sake or the will of nature, Sobiebo ( Sobiobo ) Originate from Heaven or natural . Soibifaa= The goodness of nature stays forever.... Ogi So is definitely Ijaw Ogina so is actually OGI NA SO in Eastern Ijaw dialect which means OGI SO or the God of heaven...

If I may ask, why is it that Ijaw history/origin is intertwinned with Yoruba? I am not here as a Ilaje-Yoruba dude to claim Ijaw; but to get the truth of the question.

Ijaw claim Ideresoake as a founding father. Ideresoake aslo known as Osangangan Obamakin (and nicknamed OKANBI: as he was Oduduwa only son for a long period of time), was the 2nd Ooni of Ife, after his father, Oduduwa. (check History of the Yorubas by S. Johnson).

Ogun, Oduduwa second son (from Oduduwa palace maid/servant; ORUNTO) is also claimed by Ijaws.

Finally, Adimula (Oduduwa grandson fondly called OWA OBOKUN: the SEA SEEKER) is somtimes called the father of the Ijaws. Some Ijaws claim that on his way to get salt/sea water to clear his father Oduduwa's blindness; he impregnated a woman whose ofspring was Ijo. Adimula later went to Ife to found Ilesa( Ile ti a sha).

These claims are usually postulated by the Apoi-Ijaws here in Ondo state, and other Ijaw sub-groups. It's even the accepted origin of Ijo on the net in most/all Ijaw sites.

As an Ijaw person, do you see these claims as facts? Do you have an alternative origin to it? Do you see it as a political move by some expansionist Yorubas to get hold, and LEGITIMACY of your oil: probably when the country dissolve as predicted
I need you answer. Thanks in advance!

Foreign Affairs / Gambia Pulls Out Of Commonwealth by olumidaie(m): 7:58pm On Oct 03, 2013
The president of Gambia, Yammeh has withdrawn Gambia from the COMMONWEALTH. The Autocratic Ruler, who took over power in a coup in 1994, justifies his stance claiming the Commonwealth is "a form of neo-colonialism".

Opposition have claimed that they have is more to his abrubpt withdrawal. Britain ties with Gambia's has steadily been hitting the rock, especially their opposing to human right. The Gambian president recently executed 40 prisoner.

The British government hasn't officially responded to the action; but an inner spokeperson has responded that the British government and Commonwealth would miss Gambia and any Nation that tour the route of withdrawal.

The Gambia president responded in the U.N. that whosoever oppose his stance can "go to hell".

Fellow Nairalanders and Concerned citizens, what is your take on this? Do you feel Nigeria and any other African country should follow Gambia? Is his act actually necessary? What implication does it have on Gambia and Africa as a whole?

Let's discuss this topic.

R.I.P. to the dead. I pray the other casualties gain safe recovery.

Well, I don't mean to be insultive; but, this is a case of a "FORMER MINISTER FOR AVIATION". Though, the ministry is gaining gaint strides; if he had flushed out the elements degrading the ministry( like the brand flying a 23 year old plane) and laid a strong and world class foundation during his tenure, I think such would have been averted.

Anyway, R.I.P. to the dead.

They all have all in common; Yoruba were civilised, wore cloths, bathed daily, and they were the highest urbanisation rate in Africa, higher than USA: thanks to the intra-tribal Yoruba wars.
