WHAT IBB TOLD GEJ WHEN THE LATTER VISITED THE FORMER. "The President came here to ask for my support. I had only 15 minutes prior notice before his arrival. When he came, I took him to my bedroom and had a chat with him. When he left his people said I have endorsed him. What am I supposed to do, deny it? No. For me, that is not a problem because I am a leader and what I say or don't say will give mileage to any party. When he came here I told him that he made two political mistakes: first was to lose Rotimi, the Governor of Rivers State. When the crisis was going on, Governor Rotimi was here to pay me a visit. I confronted him and he spoke to me very honestly. Despite the problems, he was not ready to leave the PDP then. Gen. Obasanjo, myself and a few others intervened in the matter as leaders of the party but the president did not foresee the current situation and didn't take our advice seriously. Rotimi is one young man I like so much for his honesty. He is very bold and alway committed to his conviction. I told president Jonathan that the second mistake he made was to call Obasanjo a motor park tout. What an insult. That was wrong and the beginning of his problems. How many times had he seen Obasanjo insult Gowon. I told him that supporting him would mean to endorse the insult on Gen Obasanjo. I won't. I advised him to go make peace with Governor Rotimi and Gen. Obasanjo. I told him it is almost getting late. I said to him, you must visit Obasanjo to apologize to him. I don't think that the outcome was favourable because it was already late. A lot of persons have been calling me to raise concern that the President would use the Military to rig the election and I say to them that it is not likely. There is esprit de corps. Most of the soldiers you see today are boys to our boys. President Jonathan has no option than to allow the election hold and to declare the winner. I advised him on this. |

It has been disclosed by some worshipers that they paid N1,000 gate fee each at the entrance to the Christ Embassy Church in Lagos to attend the New Year’s Eve service presided over by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome. The crossover service was held December 31. Those who could not afford to buy a gate pass worth N1,000 were turned back, P.M. News reports. The practice was first introduced in the church on the last day of 2010 and caused uproar among people who characterized it as offensive in relation to the religion. At that time the church explained that the move was made to control the crowd and discourage those coming for service only once a year prevening “real worshippers” from occupying seats. The explanation did not actually console the congregation. After the information about the N1,000 fee transpired last week, it was counted that with a sitting capacity of about 20,000 seats, Christ Embassy might have made at least N20 million only from selling the passes. People complain that there is more emphasis on money than on spiritual issues in Christ Embassy. What is your opinion? December 31 gate fee – fair or not? http://www.naij.com/353267-christ-embassy-charged-n1000-for-december-31-service.html |

Others are Oluremi Sonaiya and Saidu Bobboi for Kowa Party, Ambrose Albert and Haruna Shaba for Hope Democratic Party, Ganiyu Galadima and Balarabe Ahmed of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN, Rafiu Salau and Clinton Cliff Akuchie for Alliance for Democracy, AD and Godson Okoye and Haruna Adamu, for United Democratic Party, UDP. Others are Nani Ibrahim Ahmad and Obianuju Murphy-Uzohue of African Democratic Congress, Martin Onovo and Ibrahim Mohammed of National Conscience Party, NCP, Tunde Anifowoshe-Kelani and Paul Ishaka Ofomile of Action Alliance and Chekwas Okorie and bello Umar of United Progressive Party. The Labour Party, LP, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, have already adopted the PDP candidate, Goodluck Jonathan as their candidate as well. Of all the 11 candidates, only Messrs. What a horrible start the holiday season in U.S. Over Thanksgiving weekend, as "Guardians of Peace" hacked-into Sony Pictures' computer system that brought the studio's network to a screeching halt. Following the hack, hackers leaked five unreleased Sony movies to Torrent file-sharing website during Black Friday. It's still not clear whether both the incident back to back with Sony Pictures belongs to same group of hackers or not, but here's what you need to know about the breach: 1. FBI MALWARE WARNING AFTER SONY PICTURES HACK The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned businesses that cyber criminals have used malicious software to launch destructive cyber-attacks in the United States, following the last week's massive data breach at Sony Pictures Entertainment, in which four unreleased films were stolen and pirate-shared. In a five-page confidential 'flash' warning, FBI recommended users to strengthen the protection of their information systems and limit access to databases. But when asked if the same malicious software had been used against the Sony Pictures hack, FBI declined to comment. This new "destructive" malware has capability to overwrite a victim host's master boot record and all data files. "The overwriting of the data files will make it extremely difficult and costly, if not impossible, to recover the data using standard forensic methods," according to Reuters who independently obtained the report. 2. IS NORTH KOREA BEHIND THE CYBER ATTACK ON SONY PICTURES ? As we reported earlier, Sony Pictures is investigating the possibility that hackers working on behalf of North Korea were behind the hacking incident. Sony hack is the payback for upcoming Kim Jong assassination comedy film. It is because the hack comes just a month before the scheduled release of Sony's upcoming comedy "The Interview," a comedy about two journalists who are recruited by the CIA to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The film became a source of international controversy, and the Pyongyang government denounced the film as "undisguised sponsoring of terrorism, as well as an Act of War" in a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in June. But pointing finger towards North Korea without any strong evidence would be wrong. So, we still won't confirm whether its cyber war by North Korea or some other unknown, sophisticated hacker. 3. FIVE MOVIE LEAKED LINKED TO SONY PICTURES Following the last weeks cyber-attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment, high-quality versions of five newest films – Annie, Fury, Still Alice, Mr. Turner and To Write Love on Her Arms – distributed by Sony Pictures leaked online during Black Friday. Four of the leaked films have yet to hit the big screen. The remake of the 1982 released "Annie" is Sony's next big film, schedule to hit theaters on Dec. 19 with new stars Quvenzhané Wallis, Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx. Two other new films, "Mr. Turner" and "Still Alice" are also considered possible Oscar contenders for their lead actors Timothy Spall and Julianne Moore. 4. SONY HIRED FIREEYE FOR INVESTIGATION Sony Pictures Entertainment has hired Mandiant incident response team of FireEye Inc to help clean-up the damage caused by the huge cyber attack on its network, which forced its employees to put pen to paper over the last few weeks. In addition to the FireEye, FBI is also investigating the matter and is looking into the devastating leak of four of its upcoming movies, although it has not been confirmed that the leak of all the films came from the same data breach. Mandiant is a well-known security incident response team of FireEye which deals in forensic analysis, repairs and network restoration. Mandiant is the same team that helped in the catastrophic security breach experienced by one of the world's largest retailer Target in 2013. 5. SONY PICTURES HACK IS NOT THE COMPANY'S FIRST TIME HACK In August, Sony's PlayStation Network was completely taken down by a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, a common technique used by hackers to overwhelm a system with traffic and make the network temporarily inaccessible to users. The gaming network also suffered a more severe hack in 2011, which led to the exposure of 77 million PlayStation and Qriocity accounts along with 25 million Sony Online Entertainment accounts, bringing the total to more than 100 million in one of the largest data breaches ever. The hack cost Sony 14 billion yen ($172 million), and it took the networks -- for downloading and playing games, movies, and music -- offline for about a month before bringing them back up. |
Memorial services held for 220,000 people killed after underwater earthquake set off massive waves across Indian Ocean. A decade has passed since the Indian Ocean tsunami killing quarter of a million people and damaged hundreds of thousands of homes. Memorial services for the lives lost during the disaster are under way in almost all affected countries on Friday. Indonesian is the worst affected by the tsunami. There will be prayers, songs and poetry but most importantly most of the survivors will have their own commemoration services. They will have their prayer sessions in their villages, sometimes villages very near to the sea where they can remember what happened ten years ago. Aceh was the closest to the earthquake epicentre. At least 170,000 people were killed there. Sri Lanka will mark the anniversary with a symbolic ride of a train the tsunami had derailed, killing 1,270 passengers. The train will be powered by the same locomotive and feature five of the original carriages. In Thailand, 5,395 people were killed, among them about 2,000 foreign tourists. Almost 3,000 people remain missing. |

There was pandemonium at the premises of the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State, on Friday, when protesting members of the party aggrieved over the conduct of the ward congress clashed with some policemen. Majority of the demonstrators initially engaged in confrontation with some members at the party office, where weapons such as axes and machetes were used. I witness the incident because the secretariat was beside my office. One of the party member was allegedly attacked with a charm laid unconscious on the floor around 10. 57 am, when the violent was still very hot. |
