Its no news that BH sect members have targeted Christians all along howevr,the bombing of a mosque in Maiduguri just to target d Shehu of Brono seems to have taken a new dimension o!Boko also claimed responsibility for the killing of a Senator and State House of Rep member in Jos recently.So does this mean they have shifted their focus?R we now to expect more attacks on politicians instead of Christians?What's your take on this?Also,how can we tackle this clear and present Danger? |

Sokoto to build N4.5 bn road Written by Rakiya A.Muhammad, Sokoto Friday, 13 July 2012 05:00 The Sokoto State government will construct the 45kms Balle-Kurdula-Niger Republic border road at the cost of N4.5 billion, the state’s Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Alhaji Nasiru Dantsoho has said. Addressing newsmen on the outcome of this week’s state executive council meeting, he said the council also approved the re-award of the contract for the construction of the 37.1 kilometers Rundi- Katami –Silame road at about N1 billion. Also approved, according to the commissioner, is the construction of the 13.5 kilometer Mandera-Dadinguru–Jabo road at the cost of N900.7 million and the construction of the 13 kilometers Tambuwal-Romon Sarki road at the cost of over N 649.9 million. ASUU threatens strike action 11/07/2012 21:42:00Ascology Publishing Font size: The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to go on strike if the federal government relents on its current drive to reform the sector. The union which recently commended the efforts of the Federal Government in addressing the challenges facing University education in the country so far however warned that the Union would not hesitate to go back to the trenches if the government relapses “on its current outlook” in tackling the dwindling fortunes of university system in Nigeria. New President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Isa said made this remark when he led a team of former leadership and other members of executive on courtesy call on the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Professor Mahmood Yakubu in Abuja. Nasir who was accompanied by the immediate past ASUU President, Comrade Ukachukwu Awuzie and Awuzie’s predecessor, Abdullahi Sule Kano. There has been relative peace in the University System base on the cogent efforts of the present Administration of President Goodluck Jonathan in full implementation of the FGN/ASUU 2009 Agreement. Apart from restricting the intervention of TETFund to tertiary education, the Federal Government, according to ASUU has shown genuine commitment to the demands of the Union as contained in the agreement. Dr. Isa noted that ASUU as an intellectual organization, believes in dialogue and until that is exhausted, strike would not be the next option. He assured on adequate collaboration with the Federal government to ensure that the University is repositioned to compete favourably with other universities in the world, stressing that no country could develop effectively without education. Earlier, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Prof. Yakubu, noted that the agency has taken steps to address the critical challenge of the dearth of qualified lecturers in the Nigeria University System. He revealed that about 624 university lecturers sent for postgraduate training in overseas have completed their programmes and return to the country to boost the manpower in the system. I personally don't like Pastor Bakare nor his politics. I feel offended by his metaphysics of life which is mixing religion with politics. To me,this is the most dangerous tool any man could wield, particularly in Nigeria where religion is indeed the opium of the masses.history depicts men who get intoxicated from the deadly mix as power drunk men who are of questionable character. Check out the likes of the Borgia family, Henry VIII and the likes who end up not practising what they preach! politics to me involves having to compromise your values and most times, morals which for Bakare has been depicted in his silence over the 2011 post-election crisis which led to killing of innocent people and those unfortunate corps members in the core north. Yet this "pastor" mounts the pulpit every week without condemning the act of violence..instead he blames government for the ills in society,forgetting he is "unequally yoked" with an unbeliever..general buhari, a bloodthirsty unbeliever. Bakare would never advice nor encourage a Christian girl or boy in his church to marry a Muslim if the truth be told cos he would say its against gods will. So I ask, why would he then compromise himself? Will the real Pastor Tunde Bakare please stand up? 11 Likes |

Kayode Ogundamisi Next committee our President Goodluck EBELE Mainasara Omowale Azikwe Jonayhan should set up should be a 7 person committee made up of mental health experts to check if Mr President is fit enough to continue as President. He behaves as if everything is well. Even with countless mass killings under his watch as President and Commander in Chief. Mr President seems to forget that ONLY 1 PERSON is empowered to pull the full weight of the Nigerian Armed Forces to confront terrorists and that one person is Mr President. Governors are not empowered to command even an army private not to speak of a police constable! Mr President can use his position as head of ruling PDP to propose a bill delegating power to State and Local Government on Security command and control! Open discussion on State Police and even facilitate an open debate on the need for the convocation of a Sovereign National Conference as the starting point. We may have to go on with our macabre dance of blood by 2015 even if power is seeded to the head of #Bokoharam. The level of mistrust, hatred, bigotry and resort to ethnic supremacist agenda is so deep that Nigeria's only destination could be a downward trip to self destruct! |

LAGOS — Mr. Nnamdi Oragwu, a lawyer, has dragged the Director-General, State Security Service, SSS, Mr. Ita Ekpenyong and Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, before a Federal High Court, Lagos, over the kidnap of his father, Chief Lawrence Oragwu, a retired Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs. Nnamdi is praying the court for leave to apply for an order of mandamus to compel the respondents to investigate the abduction of his father, following a petition to them. He wants the IG to mandate a special unit of the police to commence or take over and conclude the investigation into his father’s kidnap and compel the respondents to transmit to the court’s registry, a type-written report of their respective investigations “within three months from the determination of the suit.” Chief Oragwu, was abducted by unknown gunmen on June 2, 2011 in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, on his way from church with his driver. The many security challenges....bombs,Armed Robbery,Boko Haram,kidnapping etc have plunged the country into a State of fear.That makes me wonder who really is in Charge of security in this Country!Who are we to hold responsible for safety of lives and property?Is it the State Governors who are closer to the poeple or the Presidency which is the Overall security Apparatus?Please your contribution to the topic would be appreciated. |

I'm amazed the way a lot of us always seem to criticize Government on how security challenges in the country have so far been handled. I'm guilty of same and wish we could all just profer solutions instead of "Flaying" Government all the time as well as tearing ourselves apart on NL. I'm personally sick of the Boko Haram bombing all over and to think that these are just few non-entities who have held everyone to ransome. So this led me to thinking what if you walked into an Elevator and suddenly it's Mr.President and he asked for your candid opinion and advice on Security Challenges in the Country? And you had just 20 mins...what would your answer be? |
