PoliticsRe: NUT: Involve Shagari, Obasanjo, Shonekan, Others In Resolution Of ASUU Crisis by Omen100(m): 12:05pm On Oct 03, 2013
donphilopus: PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has been urged to involve past leaders in the resolution of the lingering face-off between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

National President of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Michael Alogba Olukoya, gave this advice in Abuja, on Wednesday, at parley with the Supervising Minister of Education, Barrister Nyesom Wike and Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu.

The meeting called at the instance of Wike, was to brief the NUT leadership on the efforts made by the government toward resolution of the ASUU strike and to appeal to the teachers not to embark on the proposed solidarity strike.

Olukoya, who said the teachers were concerned with the state of education in Nigeria, especially the ASUU strike that has lasted for over three months without hope for resolution.

NUT President, after listening to the brief by the Supervising Minister of Education, said there was the need to involve the past leaders and powerful voices in the country in the resolution of the logjam.

He urged President Jonathan to call all the past leaders, including Alhaji Shehu Shagari, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida (Rtd), Abdulsalami Abubakar among others to a roundtable in order to resolve the crisis.

According to him, the Union was worried by the poor quality of the product of the system, especially the half-baked graduates churn out annually from the nation’s university system.

On the proposed solidarity strike, Olukoya said: “we have listened to the appeal of the two ministers and we will go back to brief our principals.”

Olukoya also urged the Federal Government to relax the conditions for accessing the intervention fund from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Earlier, Wike, in his brief, apologised to the leadership of NUT over comments credited to him that NUT had no business in the ongoing ASUU strike.

He explained that the Federal Government was still in talks with the ASUU leadership, expressing hope that the strike would soon be called off.

And that one percent are the ruling elites and if today there is a crack in that one percent of Russia ruling class, communism in Russia will die a natural death just like the crack in PDP is making president Jonathan go Bananas by constituting a committee for national conference and also note that Jonathan has started wasting is ammunitions when the real battle is yet to commence.

Living in Kaduna , you must have some Muslim friends, what is their reaction to all these menace?
Have you not seen Muslims protecting some Christians even against sectarian crises?
Living in Kaduna is not a yard stick that you know what is happening all over the North. I have seen people refute a certain news in a part of some state only to find out latter that it is true. Or are you saying because you live in Kaduna you know more than Shiekh Gumi that accuses GEJ of all the bombings? We live in a global village Mr. Man.

EducationRe: Breaking News! Fg Stops ASUU Salary by Omen100(m): 3:04pm On Oct 02, 2013
true2god: This so-called lecturers are too greedy. Why ask for 3tr naira in a developing country like naija? Hw much do dey want to be allocated to other sectors?

They are already making money throught sales of diploma forms, pre-lim forms, post utme forms, school fees and govt allocations. An average Nigerian lecturer cannot boast of a single research to his credit despite all the billions allocated to the educational sector.

There salaries should be stopped until dey go back to classes. Most of these lecturers go to school on fed govt scholarship and now they are playing part in destroying the future of Nigeri youths while their childres school in the UK and US.

If the Government at Federal & State levels had started the implementation of the said agreement since 2009 by creating a special educational fund they would have succeeded in implementing nearly 80percent of the agreement reached with ASUU by now and if I may ask, how much has being allocated to national security for the past 4years( if not up to N3.8billion so far) without any progress with the fight against insurgencies, common crimes, crude oil theft, kidnapping and other social misdemeanors.
All Glory must go to God for His Mercies and the rescue of the Bishop. The NPF should be commended for their effort cos if they flew their helicopter for that number of times around the area where the Bishop was kept, it showed they were closing in on the kidnappers and the kidnappers knew they would have no more hidding place no matter how smart they were. It's now the turn of the Bishop to secretly assist the Police in tracing the location where he was kept so the kidnappers can be apprehended.
You are a product of the failed Nigerian Educational system, how can you just jump into a conclusion that the helicopters that flew through the Sky belongs to the Nigerian Police? what do you even know about the mercantile activities of Port-Harcourt city? For the Bishop to have said that helicopters flew through the location were he was heard 500times within 9days is understatement, even the President and his entourage flew helicopters to Otueke anytime he choose to visit his state, the Beyelsa state government officials & oil workers flew helicopters day in day out, "Yenogoa en-route Port-Harcourt and less I forget, it was also reported last year that the Navy helicopter that crashed in Beyelsa state which killed the late Kaduna state governor & the late former National security adviser was on its 12th trips from Beyelsa state(wherever the venue of the late father of special assistant to the President was) reroute Rivers State(Port Harcourt) within 24hours. And now let’s engage ourselves in a lil mathematics, if a chopper can plea a route for 12times in between 24hours which is also a day, how many helicopters will it take to take to fly through that location 492times between 9day, just about 41helicopters trips and note that the Navy helicopter I used was a private helicopter not those commercial helicopters that are overworked due to maximization of profits.
