Some of you are saying good move, it looks good for the short term, but what is the local government authority in the area doing about providing a real abattoir in the community?

Its not enough to come and extort taxes from the butcher, has the local authority built a standard abattoir in the area? Have the solved the problem of drainage , do they provide means of safe disposal for the carcases, do they provide storage facilities?

Have they offered to partner with major stake holders to build these facilities on a BOT basis?

A responsible LGA should have addressed these things before coming out to shut the abattoir.

Obligations should be matched with authority. This stunt is designed to extort money from the butchers , it is disgusting. Dont cheer them up, we all suffer at the end.

That area has one of the best drainage systems in lagos state and the place very big. What government is fighting for is proper disposal of animal waste. The dispose these things into the drainage and gets to areas 5 to 10km aways coupled with the smell. The have severally told them to implement proper disposal for years but to no avail. So far it is a good move. By the way it is a standard abattoir. Massive to be precise(hectares)
