Let me tell you a short story.

Rwanda and Burundi are two central/East African countries who have almost the same ethnic make-up.
In both countries Hutu and Tutsis are the main ethnic groups.

In Rwanda, the minority Tutsis have been dominating the majority Hutus for the past 300 years politically and economically. In Burundi, the Majority Hutu is dominating the Minority Tutsis.

Both countries are literally at war asymmetrically because of Ethnic hegemony and ethnic differences that had existed since pre-colonial times. The Hutus were the land owners before the nomadic Tutsis invaded and subjugated the Hutus.
Rwanda and Burundi used to be one kingdom before colonialism broke it into two, which is the french and German controlled colonies.

As at today 11/01/2024, the Burundi government just expelled all Rwandans from their territory due to this historical/political tensions that has refused to go away.

Moral of the story is that, let no one with zero political and historical knowledge tell you that Ethnic identity doesn't matter in the fight for power and resources. Only a fool, will listen to such lies.
