FG, ASUU Reach Agreement Over Strike!!

Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities have reached an agreement to end the over five month old strike by ASUU.
The lecturer’s association has however said that its members may return to work next week. The Supervising Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike told journalists at a meeting with the leadership of ASUU, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Universities Commission and five vice- chancellors of universities that all contending issues between the parties have been resolved.
The parties signed a document to seal the agreement which spells great hope that the over five-month old strike may be called off within one week, although the president of ASUU, Professor Nasir Faggae declined to say what was contained in the document.
ASUU’s demands include the upward review of the retirement age for professors from 65 to 70; adequate funding to revitalise the university system; progressive increase of budgetary allocations to the education sector by 26 per cent; transfer of federal government property to universities; setting up of research and development units by companies; payment of earned allowances; and renegotiation of the signed agreement.
The agreement between the two is reached barely 24 hours after the Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe presented a proof of payment of N200 billion into an account with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The strike began on July 1st 2013 and lasted for over five months before this resolution was reached.

ok let me start with this, it seem u are new here and for ur info. the first list is already out and its acessable in UI website, regarding the date u quoted is about the registration of those that hv been admitted what is left now is the 2nd batch. hope this help

fatimar5: The 2nd Batch will be released after the 1st batch clearance and that will be around January cos they will be going on December Break. And resumption is likely to be around June for us according to a reliable source at the admission office. So no panicking if you hvent been admitted the second batch you might get lucky just trust God.

That they have admitted FSP and Lower credit student doesn't mean they will produce half baked n inefficient graduates. that's why its called a sch, its a place whr both the low credit n distinction students are meant to be trained to a world class level.. Once u guys are all admitted to the same 2ooL then its an equal pedestrian for whoever to prove himself for the next 3yrs afresh..... So don't be surprised FSP may just pick up along the line to become top of the class.

Qualcoms: ...very much expecting d 2nd batch/list...there is a high probability that another list will be out...but d question is...what are the available space for each department... ...hoping electrical engineering open up space...morever, with high probability, the 2nd list will be out before the end of this year but if d executive admission meeting do not hold again, then latest first wk of resumption...let's keep the hope alive again...!!! ...Christmas is here...!!!
