Crime / Barber Allegedly Arrested For Giving Customers Haircuts That ‘insult Islam’ by omodave(m): 2:37pm On Feb 03, 2021
A young barber, Elijah Ode has been allegedly arrested in Kano state for ‘insulting’ Islam by giving customers worldly haircuts. Benue state activist, Smith Akoko, in a Facebook post, said Elijah was accused of blasphemy over the hairstyles he gives men in the state.
Smith added that the young barber’s cousin confirmed his arraignment in court on Tuesday, February 2, 2021.

In a lengthy post, the activist wrote;
“Elijah Ode, a resident of Kano from Adum East, Obi LGA of Benue State, who combines barbing with studies and is domicile in the Sabon Gari town of the state was reported to have been in the net of Islamic religious extremists, who believe he has committed blasphemy in the cause of his work as barber.

Report says Elijah, who is well patronized by young people for possessing exceptional skills in trendy haircuts, attracted the wrath of the extremists last week Wednesday when two of his customers were tortured to stupor for designs claimed to be blasphemous to the Islamic religion.

Thereupon, Elijah was traced to his barbershop, where he was arrested for complicity, and has been in Police detention with the two customers since last week.

According to information obtained from his cousin, Mr Sunday Ukenya, the young barber did not design the hairstyles with the intention to provoke. He said he was only being innovative doing his work as usual to eke a living and pay his fees at his tertiary institution of study in Kano, where he sponsors himself.

Ukenya also added that the case is already in the court of law at the wish of the aggrieved Muslims with first session being yesterday. He expressed sadness, however, that all efforts by the young barber’s lawyer to bail him proved abortive for the claim that it is a major case and is as a result not bailable.

At the moment, the family has run out of hope, soliciting intercessory prayers as the reality of incarceration stares Elijah in the face. And indeed, jamesibechi.com can confirm that unless prayers are offered or reputable human rights activists from across the globe rise up for the defenceless self-sponsored young barber, the reality may be undesirable but inevitable.”

Nairaland / General / Nine Years After The Occupy Nigeria Protest, What Has Changed? by omodave(m): 1:10pm On Jan 10, 2021
The questions is very simple, what has really changed after all the occupy Nigeria protest?

Occupy Nigeria was a socio-political protest movement that began in Nigeria on Monday, 2 January 2012 in response to the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government of President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday, 1 January 2012. Protests took place across the country, including in the cities of Kano, Surulere, Ojota ( -part of metropolitan Lagos ), Abuja, Minna, and at the Nigerian High Commission in London. The protests have been characterised by civil disobedience, civil resistance, strike actions, demonstrations and online activism. The use of social media services such as Twitter and Facebook has been a prominent feature.
Protesters shut petrol stations and formed human barriers along motorways. Nigeria's main trade unions have also announced an indefinite strike and mass demonstrations from Monday, 9 January 2012 unless the removal of a fuel subsidy is reversed. "We have the total backing of all Nigerian workers on this strike and mass protest," the Nigeria Labour Congress's Chris Uyot told the BBC. Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Lamido Sanusi told the BBC the subsidy (which he said cost the government about $8bn last year) was "unsustainable". Several previous governments have tried to remove the subsidy but have backed down in the face of widespread public protests and reduced it instead.

I don't think we have forgotten so soon the wave of that protest?

The question is:
Are we enjoying what we protested against or it's getting worst by day?

Just a reminder, those religious lawyers, followers and their supporters that like sentencing people to death for blasphemy are not different from these bokoharam. You can't see the truth in this with religious in your head. Thanks

Jones4190:
*Do we need youths to have a better country?*

Sadly, our current leaders started leading as youths.

Check their respective ages and subtract the last 20 years of democracy from it and let's see what we have.

Let's take Rotimi Amaechi for instance.

He is 55 now.

He's 6 years into Minister. That means he became Minister at 49.

He was Governor for 8 years. That means he became Governor at 41. Prior that, he was Speaker for 8 years, that means he was Speaker at 33. Freaking 33!

How youth can youth be!

Do the maths for all of them and you will see that youth has brought us nothing.

Fashola is 57.

He was in Tinubu's Cabinet.

Tinubu became Governor 21 years ago.

Remove 21 from 57, that's 36.

How youth can youth be?

Wike is 53.

He has been in power for the last 15/20 years.
That's 33-35.

How youth can youth be?

Dimeji Bankole was a freaking 37 as Speaker in the National Assembly.

Ahmed Lawan is 61.

He is been in the assembly since 1999. That was 21 years ago at the age of 40.

Even if President Buhari is 80yrs now, he was head of state in 1983, 37yrs ago, remove that from 80, that means he became the Head of State at the age of 43yrs and has bn instrumental corridor of power ever since.

See what we have.

What did we gain?

We don't need the youths.
We need a change of mindset and attitude, we need a change in the way parents nurture and train their children.

Both young and old.

Else, it's the same story.

Youths have always been in power!
They became old in power!

Yet we are here!

Let's ask for the right things o.

I come in peace.

Well said.

I understand what you're going through. Its not an easy task i must say but you two can do this together na no need getting a caterer. Go shopping together, assist her in cooking the soup e.g like chopping the Veggies, washing meat etc, then u make the semo and she wraps it. You guys can serve your guests together and do the dishes together. Just see it as a time for you two to bond together. I dont see any issue here ohhh. Be positive. Be blessed.

I respect you based on this comment. Bravo.

Good day nairalanders

Please I’ve an issue bothering me rn. I’m thinking of terminating my School though I’m in year 2(1st semester)

I noticed I’m able to make more than 300k a month online these covid season but if I’m in school I don’t make up to this amount because I don’t have enough time to stay hionline and do things I wanna do.

But I don’t wanna make a decision that’s gonna affect me forever so I’m seeking for your honest opinion.

Should I just terminate this school and focus more on my online Business.

What my online business just require of me is Data(like 50gb per month )and to always be online to run the stuff.

I will advice you complete your school since schooling won't actually stop you from doing your online business and owing to the fact that you're in your year two already, pay the sacrifices once and for all.

And please I will really appreciate should you put me through this online business. Thanks

If there’s one thing you need to experience.. it is the feeling of owning a CAR.
My car landed yesterday and i really couldn’t sleep, i was peeping through the window all through the night to be sure it’s safe.

I am also scared of even driving it out sef because of the fear of village people and what people in my neighbourhood will say.

Even my parents are already giving various advice on how all eyes would be on me now and why i should only drive out only on important occasions (why person buy if no he to dey drive am daily)

Above all! The feeling is unexplainable! GOD PROVIDED MINE FOR ME
