SportsNeville To Leave Role As England Women's Coach In July 2021 by omolaragbera(op): 2:50pm On Apr 24, 2020
England women's head coach Phil Neville will leave the job in July 2021 at the end of his contract, the English Football Association (FA) said in a statement on Friday.

Neville, who took the job in January 2018 and guided the team to the World Cup semifinals in France last year, was set to lead England in the Women's Euros on home soil next year as well as the British team at the Tokyo Olympics.

Both events have been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic that has shut down world sport.

"In light of the impact of current global events on the sporting calendar and in the best interests of the England women's team, both parties were in agreement that our shared priority was to ensure the Lionesses have continuity of coaching going into the home Euro and looking towards the 2023 World Cup," FA director of women's football Sue Campbell said.

"Once football returns after this difficult period, Phil will continue his work with the Lionesses on the further development of his squad. I will support him fully with that important task while moving forward with the crucial succession planning process.

"We'll now discuss next steps with the British Olympic Association and the home nations with regard to Team GB Football and we're not in a position to make any further comment at this time."

Neville has struggled to get the best out of his players since the World Cup, with England losing seven of their last 11 games.

Neville said he was looking forward to returning to work with the team as soon as possible.

"We have a fantastic squad of players and there is plenty to work on as we look to progress as a team going into 2021," the former Manchester United and England defender said.

SportsSimulated Reality League: What You Need To Know And How To Make Money From It by omolaragbera(op): 10:01am On Apr 23, 2020
In few days’ time, it’ll be a month since we had live sporting events to enjoy or even bet on. Precautionary measures to stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus have forced events to be suspended or cancelled.

And no one knows when things will return back to normal. This is because sport organizations are currently more concerned about slashing salaries than resuming activities. The longer the break lingers, the shorter the bet slips have become, with bettors running out of options.

While virtual games have been there to cover for the lack of games, bettors definitely could use more betting options right now.

And that’s why NaijaBet.com is introducing the Simulated Reality League to its platform, just for you. To read more click here https://liberiabet.com/2020/04/23/simulated-reality-league-what-you-need-to-know-and-how-to-make-money-from-it/

SportsNational League Clubs Vote To Cut Short Season by omolaragbera(op): 3:59pm On Apr 22, 2020
England's National League clubs, which represent the fifth and sixth tiers of the country's football pyramid, have voted to immediately end the 2019-20 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, league organisers said on Wednesday.

The clubs were asked to support a resolution to end the season early because of the coronavirus and a clear majority voted in favour of the proposal.

Ninety percent of responses had been received and the resolution had passed because the outstanding votes would not change the outcome, the league said.

"The League's Board has chosen to communicate the decision now... to enable clubs to make business decisions with greater clarity as soon as possible," it added in a statement.

"The options concerning the sporting outcomes of the 2019-20 season remain under careful and timely consideration, and further updates will be given in due course."

Barrow were four points clear at the top of the fifth-tier National League, with Harrogate Town in second when the season was halted on March 16.

Two clubs are promoted from the National League to League Two and four relegated to the sixth-tier National League North and South divisions.

The clubs relegated from the National League are replaced by the champions and play-off winners from the two sixth-tier divisions. For more info https://liberiabet.com/2020/04/22/national-league-clubs-vote-to-cut-short-season/

SportsWorld Snooker Championship Rescheduled To Start On 31 July by omolaragbera(op): 3:50pm On Apr 22, 2020
The World Snooker Championship, originally set to take place in April and May, has been rescheduled to start on 31 July at the Crucible Theatre.

The event was postponed on 20 March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

It will run for 17 days and be broadcast in full across BBC TV and online.

The World Snooker Tour (WST) says it will assess "government advice at the time" about the number of spectators allowed inside the Sheffield venue.

Hendry and Davis relive classic Crucible matches
Full schedule and times of classic Crucible matches on BBC Two
WST chairman Barry Hearn said the preference is to stage the event with a "full crowd as usual" inside the Crucible Theatre, which has a capacity of just under 1,000.

If that is not possible, "careful consideration" will be given to other scenarios, including a reduced crowd, playing the tournament behind closed doors, or postponing the event again.

"We are delighted to confirm new dates for this huge global sporting event which has an international television audience of 500 million people," said Hearn.

"The world is going through a very challenging period, but live sport can be a massive inspiration for the public and can boost morale.

"It is crucial for our 128 tour players to know we are doing everything we can to get our circuit going again as soon as it is considered safe to do so by the government.

"The players are self-employed and they need opportunities to earn, while we keep the health and safety of everyone involved in an event of this scale as a priority."

The top 16 ranked players in the world automatically earn their place in the tournament and are joined by 16 qualifiers, the dates for which are yet to be confirmed.

English world number one Judd Trump, who has won a record six ranking titles this season, beat John Higgins of Scotland in last year's final.

This year's best-of-35 frame final is scheduled to take place over two days, starting on Saturday, 15 August, with the winner receiving £500,000 in prize money.

Tickets for the tournament will automatically be transferred to the new dates. A refunds policy will be announced separately. For more update click here https://liberiabet.com/2020/04/22/world-snooker-championship-rescheduled-to-start-on-31-july/

SportsNewcastle United Takeover: Bein Sports & Amnesty Warn Premier League by omolaragbera(op): 9:28am On Apr 22, 2020
The Premier League has been urged by one of its largest overseas broadcast partners to "fully interrogate" Newcastle United's proposed £300m takeover.

The chief executive of the Qatar-based TV giant beIN Sport, Yousef al-Obaidly, has written to the chairs of top-flight clubs about the deal, which could see the Magpies bought by a Saudi-backed consortium.

In the letter, Al-Obaidly accuses the Saudi Arabian government of the "facilitation of the near three-year theft of the Premier League's commercial rights - and in turn your club's commercial revenues - through its backing of the huge-scale beoutQ pirate service".

"It is no exaggeration to say that the future economic model of football is at stake," added Al-Obaidly, who has also written to Premier League chief executive Richard Masters.

Newcastle United takeover Q&A
Broadcaster beoutQ has been illegally showing matches - mainly in Saudi Arabia - despite the rights to show games in the region belonging to beIN Sports, who are currently in the middle of a three-year deal with the Premier League worth £400m.

Last year football authorities attempted to shut the beoutQ service down without success.

Saudi broadcaster Arabsat has always denied that beoutQ uses its frequencies to broadcast illegally and has accused beIN of being behind "defamation attempts and misleading campaigns".

Describing the issue as "a matter of urgency", Al-Obaidly continues: "Given the crippling economic effect that coronavirus is having on the sports industry, this is all happening at a time when football clubs need to protect their broadcast revenue the most."

Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund the PIF (Public Investment Fund) is understood to be set to acquire an 80% stake in the club as part of a consortium including financier Amanda Staveley and billionaires the Reuben brothers.

Mike Ashley has owned Newcastle since 2007 and put them up for sale in 2017.

In his letter to Masters, al-Obaidly says: "To the extent the reports about the acquisition of NUFC are correct, we consider it essential for the Premier League to fully investigate the potential acquirer of the club, including all directors, officers and other representatives from the KSA PIF or other Saudi Arabian entities involved in, or otherwise providing any financing for the acquisition.

"There appear to be several reasons why such an investigation is being called for by other parties; our request is purely based on Saudi Arabia's past and present theft of your and your member clubs' intellectual property rights."

The Premier League must decide whether the group of investors backed by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund meets its owners' and directors' test and is understood to currently be in the process of working through paperwork connected to the deal, which could take two to three weeks.

BeIN have asked the Premier League in its owners' and directors' test to consider "the direct role of Saudi Arabia" in the beoutQ service, the challenge the Premier League faces in "taking any action to protect its own intellectual property rights in the country" and its ability to "enforce" its rules against "Saudi Arabian based persons or entities".

This comes during a time when both Saudi Arabia and Qatar are involved in a wider diplomatic row in the Middle East.

BeIN is not thought to be considering its partnership with the Premier League, though last year the group did threaten to pull its deal with Serie A over the decision to stage the Italian Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Amnesty criticise takeover

Human rights campaigners Amnesty International have also criticised the potential deal.

Amnesty UK director Kate Allen said in a separate letter to Masters: "So long as these questions [about Saudi Arabia's human rights record] remain unaddressed, the Premier League is putting itself at risk of becoming a patsy of those who want to use the glamour and prestige of Premier League football to cover up actions that are deeply immoral, in breach of international law and at odds with the values of the Premier League and the global footballing community."

BBC Sport has contacted the Saudi wealth fund and representatives of the consortium asking for a response to Amnesty's letter.

The Premier League declined to comment on the Amnesty letter and Newcastle have also been approached by BBC Sport.

Amnesty - a non-governmental organisation which focuses on human rights - has long criticised Saudi Arabia's human rights record, pointing to long-standing issues including women's rights, the treatment of the LGBT community and the restriction of free speech.

Western intelligence agencies also believe the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October 2018 was ordered by the Crown Prince - something he denies. Saudi authorities blamed a "rogue operation" for Khashoggi's death.

The country has also been accused of 'sportswashing', a term used to describe countries that try to improve their international reputation by investing in major teams or hosting big sporting events.

"The Crown Prince has been using sporting events and personalities as a means of improving the Kingdom's reputation following the grisly murder of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi - widely believed to have taken place with his approval," the Amnesty letter continued.

"Such positive associations with sporting events also distract attention from Saudi's appalling human rights record, including the imprisonment and torture of women human rights defenders."

Accusations of sportswashing have previously been rebuffed by the man heading Saudi Arabia's unprecedented investment in sports, HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal.

"We want to get people more engaged in sport," he said. "In 2015 just 13% of Saudis took part in sports for half an hour or more each week; we want that to be 40% by 2030. This is all part of a programme designed to get people more active." Click here for more update https://liberiabet.com/2020/04/22/newcastle-united-takeover-bein-sports-amnesty-warn-premier-league/

SportsSheffield Utd Players Defer Wages Till End Of 2020 by omolaragbera(op): 4:10pm On Apr 21, 2020
Sheffield United players will defer part of their wages until the end of 2020 to help the Premier League club ride out the economic storm caused by coronavirus.

The Blades manager Chris Wilder, senior members of his coaching staff and chief executive Stephen Bettis have also agreed a wage deferral for six months.

Southampton and West Ham have agreed wage deferrals, while Arsenal became the first Premier League club to reach a deal on pay cuts with players taking 12.5 percent less for a year.
“It is a difficult period for everyone, but our football club also needs to be taken care of and I’m delighted that the players want to mirror the gesture of Chris and the staff by contributing, it confirms that they care about Sheffield United,” said Bettis in a club statement.

“The players should be commended, not only for this action, but also for their role in the #playerstogether initiative with other Premier League clubs.”

PlayersTogether is a charitable fund set up by Premier League players to generate funds for those working on the frontline in the fight against the pandemic.

Premier League chiefs believe the virus could cost them around £1 billion ($1.2 billion) if the season cannot be completed.

Premier League games are suspended indefinitely as the UK battles to bring the virus under control.

Should the season not be completed, United could be one of the sides to miss out as they were in contention to qualify for European football for the first time in their history.

In their first season back in the top flight, Wilder’s men sit seventh in the table, just two points behind Manchester United in fifth and with a game in hand over the Red Devils.

Sheffield United were also due to host Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

SportsEnyeama: Why I Rejected Offers From Arsenal And Tottenham Hotspur by omolaragbera(op): 11:16am On Apr 21, 2020
The Nigeria legend snubbed offers from Premier League clubs because he was seeking regular playing time
Former Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama said he snubbed offers from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur because they wanted him as a second choice goalkeeper.

The 37-year-old attracted interest from North London clubs after his fine outing with the Super Eagles at the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.

He said he was keen on having regular playing time and his snub made the Gunners move for David Ospina who joined Napoli permanently last year after impressing on loan.

SportsCoronavirus: Liverpool V Atletico Madrid Virus Link An 'interesting Hypothesis' by omolaragbera(op): 10:58am On Apr 21, 2020
Speculation over a possible link between coronavirus cases in Liverpool and the club's Champions League match with Atletico Madrid last month is an "interesting hypothesis", a scientific adviser to the UK government has said.

Some coronavirus deaths in Liverpool have been blamed on the 11 March match at Anfield, which was attended by more than 52,000 people, including 3,000 from Madrid, where a partial lockdown was already in force.

While there is no confirmed link between the match and any coronavirus cases, the government's deputy chief scientific adviser, Angela McLean, said it warranted further investigation.

"It will be very interesting to see in the future, when all the science is done, what relationship there is between the viruses that have circulated in Liverpool and the viruses that have circulated in Spain," she said at the UK government's daily coronavirus news briefing on Monday.

Liverpool city council's director of public health Matthew Ashton previously told the Guardian the match should have been called off, while the mayor of Madrid, Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida, said over the weekend that it was a "mistake" to allow thousands of Atletico fans to attend.

"It didn't make any sense that 3,000 Atletico fans could travel to Anfield at that time," Martinez-Almedia told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

Latest figures show that 246 people have died with coronavirus in Liverpool's NHS hospitals.

Madrid, meanwhile, is one of Europe's worst affected cities. Spain has the second-highest number of confirmed infection cases in the world, behind the US, figures from Johns Hopkins University say.

The country's death toll climbed close to 21,000 on Monday.

Premier League clubs including Liverpool and Man Utd amend season ticket plans
Speaking at Monday's news briefing, UK chancellor Rishi Sunak rejected claims the government was too slow to cancel large sporting events in the days before the coronavirus lockdown was enforced.

The Cheltenham Festival, along with Liverpool's Champions League match with Atletico, went ahead in the second week of March. There were 251,684 racegoers in attendance across the four days of the Festival, while 68,500 watched the Cheltenham Gold Cup on 13 March.

Strict limits on daily life - such as requiring people to stay at home, shutting many businesses and preventing gatherings of more than two people - were introduced on 23 March.

'Serious questions' over why Cheltenham went ahead
"There is often a wrong time to put certain measures in place, thinking about sustainability and everything else," Sunak said.

"At all parts of this we have been guided by that science, we have been guided by making the right decisions at the right time, and I stand by that."

SportsMoyes Believed I Was The Only Who Could Stop Henry At Arsenal – Yobo by omolaragbera(op): 2:54pm On Apr 20, 2020
The former Everton and Nigeria defender pays tribute to the Frenchman who gave him the most trouble during his time in the Premier League
Joseph Yobo has revealed that former Arsenal star Thierry Henry is one of the toughest opponents he has ever faced during his playing days.

The legendary Nigeria centre-half has squared up to some of the greatest attackers since his first-team debut at Standard Liege in 2000.

Nevertheless, when it comes to mentioning his most difficult opponents, Yobo says the Frenchman stands heads and shoulders above many others.https://liberiabet.com/2020/04/20/moyes-believed-i-was-the-only-who-could-stop-henry-at-arsenal-yobo/
