Long ago, I was talking to a popular businessman in Abuja, Nigeria, and he told me he would never pay for any of his employees to go for training of any kind because he does not want them to become better at their jobs and end up leaving his company for somewhere better (he runs about four businesses where he employs almost 70 staff). As a job seeker, you should avoid these kinds of places because their company culture does not encourage your growth or wellbeing. You will read about company culture from a lot of experts, but what does it mean? A lot of job seekers and even company employees believe that a company/organization has a good company culture when they have a subsidized fee for food at the staff cafeteria or when the staff members have daily access to video games at the office after the closing of the business. However attractive these steps may be, it is not company culture. The concept of company culture stems from the company/organization taking action to better the lives of their employees, which is not a common characteristic in a lot of places. Some companies/organizations have taken major steps in ensuring that their employees are properly taken care of in the workplace. Did you know that it is better to research a company/organization's recruiter/HR manager and send them your job application directly? Use LinkedIn or company website to achieve this. If you still cannot find them, locate their office and take your application there and submit. Always address the letter to a person, not a role. For instance, instead of writing; The HR Manager Oando Plc Write; Ms. Ima Ofulue Group HR Manager Oando Plc Today's job posts https://lingoafrica.com/apply-10-new-jobs-available-7/ |
The first time I saw a cover letter that actually gingered a recruiter to call an applicant, it was nothing like the regular strict-type cover letter. It was more like a professional hype about the ability of the candidate. The young applicant talked about his love for his profession and why he was the perfect fit for the vacant role. He was formal but creative, he was not afraid to brag about his skills, proving it by telling a short story about one great work experience he had in the past. You can decide to tell a short story or just share a particularly wonderful work/volunteer experience where you truly excelled in something related to the position you are applying for. When writing your cover letter, you should avoid repeating the same information you have on your CV. What you should do instead, is focus more on what you have that the receiving company/organization is interested in or will benefit from. A lot of applicants make the mistake of writing down the same thing on both, which is wrong and does not show the creative side of an applicant. Actually writing your ability by telling a brief story or anecdote could jolt the recruiter to invite you for a physical interview. Be creative and professional at the same time. What are those qualities you possess in relation to the job you are applying for that matches the role in question? Talk about them on your cover letter. Do not allow self-doubt to get in the way, brag about what you have achieved professionally as it relates to the position you are applying for. Be specific, do not beat about the bush.
