Step 1: Normalize the Results for Fair Comparison

This is the most critical rule. Because one group has only 5 teams and the others have 6, you cannot fairly compare points totals directly. A runner-up in a 6-team group plays 10 matches, while a runner-up in the 5-team group plays only 8 matches.

To fix this, CAF disregards the results against the bottom teams in the larger groups.

· For the runners-up in the groups of 6 teams, only the results against the teams that finished 1st, 3rd, and 4th are counted. The results against the 5th and 6th-placed teams are removed from the calculation.
· For the runner-up in the group of 5 teams, all their results are counted (they only played 8 games, all against relevant opponents).

This creates a standardized "mini-table" for each runner-up based on 6 matches (against the 1st, 3rd, and 4th-placed teams—home and away).

Step 2: Rank the Runners-Up

Once the results have been normalized for all nine runners-up, they are ranked against each other based on the following criteria, in order:

1. Number of points (from their 6 considered matches).
2. Goal difference (from their 6 considered matches).
3. Number of goals scored (from their 6 considered matches).
4. Number of away goals scored (from their 6 considered matches).
5. Drawing of lots.
6. Fair Play points (fewer yellow/red cards).

The top four runners-up from this ranking advance to the play-off stage.

If it is Huawei, be sure you are been recruited as a full staff and not outsourced from one of their 3rd party companies(Rutotech or philips consulting etc). Outsourced staff gets higher pay(even as much as 1M per month for managerial positions) with fringed/next to nothing benefits attached. Since you are not in the technical area, you won't suffer a lot of work hazards(which they daily load as benefits) many have gone through. If you get employed as a full staff, you will enjoy a lot and be able to plan a good future there. If you get enticed with the higher pay that comes with been an outsourced staff, my advice is make it a short time adventure and have a solid plan to move in the next 3-5 years( someone i know did the same).
