One interesting challenge in running a retail or distribution business is knowing what to buy, how much to buy, and when to restock.

Imagine running a supermarket, provision shop, pharmacy, or wholesale business.

Some products sell so quickly that you keep running out of stock. Others remain on your shelves for weeks or months, tying down money that could have been used elsewhere.

Then there are supplier delays, price increases, unexpected changes in customer demand, and discounts that encourage you to buy larger quantities than you may actually need.

Sometimes, a business can be making sales every day but still struggle with cash flow because too much money is tied up in slow-moving inventory.

I work in forecasting, data analysis, and inventory optimization, and I'm particularly interested in how Nigerian businesses handle these decisions in practice.

In many cases, better inventory planning doesn't necessarily require expensive software. Even understanding which products sell fastest, how demand changes over time, and how long suppliers take to deliver can improve purchasing decisions.

I'm curious to hear from people who currently run shops, supermarkets, distribution businesses, warehouses, or other businesses that hold inventory.

How do you currently decide what to restock? Do you rely on experience, notebooks, Excel, POS software, or another system?

And what has been your biggest challenge: running out of fast-selling products, having too much unsold stock, supplier delays, or constantly changing purchase prices?

It would be interesting to hear real experiences and discuss practical ways to manage these challenges in Nigerian businesses.

I set a price to buy some shares at Zenith, for 59.50, before the limit expired, meritrade put on my account that while shares were gotten at about 60 naira...I got a valuation report twice in a row that this share was in my account...I stopped checking the account for a while but once Zenith started moving, I checked and found that MERITRADE has taken the shares out of the account....I asked the customer care and they said the earlier trade did not execute that it was likely due to network issues. To be fair, I checked the chart and noticed a sharp movement in the market at that time but it didn't get to my limit price. MERITRADE did not send an email, they did not notify me so I'd possibly have set a new trade...thank God I quickly bought a few units at the price I met the market....this quite unfortunate and I think our trading platforms should do better!

It's mainly the lightings - Canada is up North closer to the Sun, so you can get brighter pictures..the skies usually look clearer. if he just travelled recently then they are in winter season, the cold helps the skin also, no much sunburns.
