ProgrammingTop 10 New Programming Languages by onakevin(op):
10 - CUDA

Most people take the power of their video cards for granted. They don't even think about how many triangles the video card is juggling, as long as their world is a complex, first-person shooter game. But if they would only look under the hood, they would find a great deal of power ready to be unlocked by the right programmer. The CUDA language is a way for Nvidia to open up the power of their graphics processing units (GPUs) to work in ways other than killing zombies or robots.

The key challenge to using CUDA is learning to identify the parallel parts of your algorithm. Once you find them, you can set up the CUDA code to blast through these sections using all the inherent parallel power of the video card. Some jobs, like mining Bitcoins, are pretty simple, but other challenges, like sorting and molecular dynamics, may take a bit more thinking. Scientists love using CUDA code for their large, multidimensional simulations.

Highlights: Very fast performance, at least for parallel code.

Headaches: Identifying the easily parallelizable sections of code isn't always easy.

9 - ARDUINO

The Internet of Things is coming. More and more devices have embedded chips just waiting to be told what to do. Arduino isn't so much a new language as a set of C or C++ functions that you string together. The compiler does the rest of the work.

Many of these functions will be a real novelty for programmers, especially programmers used to creating user interfaces for general computers. You can read voltages, check the status of pins on the board, and of course, control just how those LEDs flash to send inscrutable messages to the people staring at the device.

Highlights: The world of devices is your oyster.

Headaches: It's largely C and C++.

8 - MATLAB

Once upon a time, MATLAB was a hardcore language for hardcore mathematicians and scientists who needed to juggle complex systems of equations and find solutions. It's still that, and more of today's projects need those complex skills. So MATLAB is finding its way into more applications as developers start pushing deeper into complex mathematical and statistical analysis. The core has been tested over the decades by mathematicians and now it's able to help mere mortals.

Highlights: Fast, stable, and solid algorithms for complex math

Headaches: The math is still complex.

7 - LESS.JS

Just like CoffeeScript, Less.js is really just a preprocessor for your files, one that makes it easier to create elaborate CSS files. Anyone who has tried to build a list of layout rules for even the simplest website knows that creating basic CSS requires plenty of repetition; Less.js handles all this repetition with loops, variables, and other basic programming constructs. You can, for instance, create a variable to hold that shade of green used as both a background and a highlight color. If the boss wants to change it, you only need to update one spot.

There are more elaborate constructs such as mixins and nested rules that effectively create blocks of standard layout commands that can be included in any number of CSS classes. If someone decides that the bold typeface needs to go, you only need to fix it at the root and Less.js will push the new rule into all the other definitions.

Highlights: Simpler code

Headaches: A few good constructs leave you asking for more.

6 - D

For many programmers, there's nothing like the very clean, simple world of C. The syntax is minimal and the structure maps cleanly to the CPU. Some call it portable Assembly. Even for all these advantages, some C programmers feel like they're missing out on the advantages built into newer languages.

That's why D is being built. It's meant to update all the logical purity of C and C++ while adding in modern conveniences such as memory management, type inference, and bounds checking.

Highlights: Some of the most essential new features in languages.

Headaches: You trade some power away for the safety net.

5 - COFFEESCRIPT

Somewhere along the line, some JavaScript programmers grew tired of typing all those semicolons and curly brackets. So they created CoffeeScript,a preprocessing tool that turns their syntactic shorthand back into regular JavaScript. It's not as much a language as a way to save time hitting all those semicolons and curly bracket keys.

Jokers may claim that CoffeeScript is little more than a way to rest your right hand's pinkie, but they're missing the point. Cleaner code is easier to read, and we all benefit when we can parse the code quickly in our brain. CoffeeScript makes it easier for everyone to understand the code, and that benefits everyone.

Highlights: Cleaner code

Headaches: Sometimes those brackets make it easier to understand deeply nested code.

4 - GO

When Google set out to build a new language to power its server farms, it decided to build something simple by throwing out many of the more clever ideas often found in other languages. They wanted to keep everything, as one creator said, "simple enough to hold in one programmer's head." There are no complex abstractions or clever metaprogramming in Go—just basic features specified in a straightforward syntax.

This can make things easier for everyone on a team because no one has to fret when someone else digs up a neat idea from the nether reaches of the language specification.

Highlights: Just a clean, simple language for manipulating data.

Headaches: Sometimes a clever feature is needed.

3 - SWIFT

Apple saw an opportunity when programming newbies complained about the endless mess of writing in Objective C. So they introduced Swift and strongly implied that it would replace Objective C for writing for the Mac or the iPhone. They recognized that creating header files and juggling pointers was antiquated. Swift hides this information, making it much more like writing in a modern language like Java or Python. Finally, the language is doing all the scut work, just like the modern code.

The language specification is broad. It's not just a syntactic cleanup of Objective C. There are plenty of new features, so many that they're hard to list. Some coders might even complain that there's too much to learn, and Swift will make life more complicated for teams who need to read each other's code. But let's not focus too much on that. iPhone coders can now spin out code as quickly as others. They can work with a cleaner syntax and let the language do the busy work.

Highlights: Dramatically cleaner syntax and less low-level juggling of pointers

Headaches: The backwards compatibility requires thinking about bits and bytes occasionally.

2 - JAVA 8

Java isn't a new language. It's often everyone's first language, thanks to its role as the lingua franca for AP Computer Science. There are billions of JAR files floating around running the world. But Java 8 is a bit different. It comes with new features aimed at offering functional techniques that can unlock the parallelism in your code. You don't have to use them. You could stick with all the old Java because it still works. But if you don't use it, you'll be missing the chance to offer the Java virtual machine (JVM) even more structure for optimizing the execution. You'll miss the chance to think functionally and write cleaner, faster, and less buggy code.

Highlights: Lambda expressions and concurrent code

Headaches: A bolted-on feeling makes us want to jump in with both feet and use Scala (see below).

1 - R

At heart, R is a programming language, but it's more of a standard bearer for the world's current obsession with using statistics to unlock patterns in large blocks of data. R was designed by statisticians and scientists to make their work easier. It comes with most standard functions used in data analysis and many of the most useful statistical algorithms are already implemented as freely distributed libraries. It's got most of what data scientists need to do data-driven science.

HealthThe Top 10 Deadliest Diseases by onakevin(op): 4:41pm On Aug 10, 2016
The news is filled with stories about Ebola, and breast cancer gets a lot of press too. Would it surprise you to know that neither makes the list of the 10 deadliest diseases? Even more surprising, perhaps, is that several of the deadliest diseases, including the number one killer in the world, are at least partially preventable. Where a person lives, access to preventive care, and quality of healthcare all factor into their risk.

The top five deadliest diseases haven’t changed much in the past decade, but we’ve managed to lower the number of deaths for some of the top 10 deadliest diseases.

10 - TUBERCULOSIS (TB)

TB is a lung condition caused by bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It’s an airborne disease that is often successfully treated. Some strains of TB are resistant to conventional treatments. Second-line drugs used to treat these patients are in limited supply. Some strains fail to respond to second-line treatment as well.

In 2012, about 900,000 people lost their lives to TB, according to WHO estimates. The majority of TB-related deaths happen in poorer countries. It is one of the top causes of death for people who have HIV.

9 - PRETERM BIRTH COMPLICATIONS

According to WHO, in 2012, as many as 1.1 million deaths were due to prematurity and complications due to low birth weight. Three-quarters of these deaths happen within the first week of life. Lack of skilled medical care makes this a huge problem in developing countries. Many newborn deaths could be avoided with good prenatal and postnatal care.

8 - DIABETES MELLITUS

Diabetes is a group of diseases that affect insulin production and use. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas can no longer produce insulin. The cause is not known. In type 2 diabetes, the pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin, or it can’t be used effectively. Type 2 diabetes can be caused by a number of factors, including poor diet, lack of exercise, and carrying too much weight.

In 2012, about 1.5 million people died from diabetes-related causes, according to WHO. People in low to middle income countries are more likely to die from complications of diabetes.

7 - DIARRHEAL DISEASES

Diarrhea is when you pass three or more loose stools a day. When diarrhea lasts more than a few days, your body loses too much water and salt. Death is due to dehydration. Diarrhea is usually caused by an intestinal infection transmitted through viruses, bacteria, or even parasites. This type of infection can easily spread through contaminated water or food. It’s particularly widespread in developing nations that have poor sanitary conditions.

WHO estimates that 1.5 million people died from diarrheal diseases in 2012, which comprises about 2.7 percent of deaths. Fortunately, that’s down from 2.2 million in 2000. Diarrheal disease is the second top killer of children under age five. Tragically, about 760,000 children die from diarrheal diseases each year.

According to a 2009 Unicef report, every year there are about 2.5 billion cases of diarrhea involving children under five years old. More than 50 percent occur in Africa and South Asia. More than 80 percent of child deaths due to diarrhea occur in those regions.

According to Unicef, healthy behaviors such as good handwashing technique can reduce the incidence of diarrheal diseases by 40 percent. Progress is being made in the fight against diarrheal diseases, but much work remains. Improved sanitization and water quality can help prevent diarrheal diseases. Access to early medical intervention can be the difference between life and death.

6 - HIV/AIDS

HIV is short for human immunodeficiency virus. It’s a virus that attacks the immune system. HIV can cause AIDS, or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. AIDS is a chronic, life-threatening condition.

According to the Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), since the start of the pandemic, almost 39 million people have died due to HIV/AIDS. In 2013, about 1.5 million people lost their lives to AIDS. That’s about 2.7 percent of deaths worldwide.

By the end of 2012, 35.3 million people around the world were infected with HIV. Every day, about 5,700 more become infected.

Rates vary dramatically by geographical location. HIV is rampant in sub-Saharan Africa, where almost one in 20 adults has it. The region is home to 70 percent of all people who have HIV. Sadly, it’s also home to 91 percent of the HIV-positive children in the world.

5 - TRACHEA, BRONCHUS, AND LUNG CANCERS

Trachea, bronchus, and lung cancer are all respiratory cancers. The main causes of this type of cancer are smoking, second-hand smoke, and environmental toxins.

WHO estimates that in 2012, 1.6 million people died from trachea, bronchus, and lung cancers. These cancers represent about 2.9 percent of all deaths globally.

4 - LOWER RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS

WHO estimates that lower respiratory infections caused about 3.1 million, or 5.5 percent of deaths in 2012. This group of diseases includes pneumonia, bronchitis, and influenza.

Flu season lasts from December through February in the Northern Hemisphere and from June through August in the Southern Hemisphere. The risk is year round in tropical regions.

According to the CDC, about 20 percent of travelers returning to the United States seek medical attention for respiratory infection following a trip. Packed cruise ships, hotels, and other close quarters increase risk of transmission and outbreaks of disease.

3 - CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE (COPD)

COPD is a chronic, progressive lung disease that makes it hard to breathe. Chronic bronchitis and emphysema are types of COPD.

About 3.1 million deaths were attributed to COPD in 2012, according to WHO. That represents about 5.6 percent of deaths, a rate that has held steady since 2000. In 2004, about 64 million people around the world were living with COPD.

The main cause of COPD is tobacco — and that means secondhand smoke, too. Another factor is air pollution, both indoors and out. COPD affects men and women at about the same rate. There’s no cure for COPD, but its progression can be slowed down with medication.

The American Lung Association estimates that in 2011, 12.7 million adults in the United States had COPD, but even more showed some sign of lung problems. There’s a great variation in the number of cases from state to state. In 2011, about 4 percent of people in Minnesota and Washington had COPD. In Alabama and Kentucky, it was more than 9 percent.

2 - STROKE

A stroke is when an artery in the brain is blocked or leaks. Oxygen-deprived brain cells begin to die within minutes.

Stroke was responsible for 6.7 million deaths around the world in 2012, according to WHO. That figure represents about 11.9 percent of all deaths. CDC figures show that nearly 130,000 people in the United States die of stroke each year — that’s one person every four minutes. About one in four strokes occur in people who have had a prior stroke. Stroke is also a leading cause of disability.

Risk factors for stroke are similar to those for CAD. In general, good health habits can lower your risks.

1 - CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE (ISCHEMIC HEART DISEASE)

The deadliest disease in the world is coronary artery disease (CAD). CAD, also called ischemic heart disease, occurs when the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart become narrowed. The World Health Organization(WHO) estimates that about 7.4 million people died of ischemic heart disease in 2012. That was about 13.2 percent of all deaths.

In the United States, about 600,000 people die of heart disease every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That makes it the deadliest disease in the U.S., as well as the world. In the U.S. the most common type of heart disease is CAD, which takes about 380,000 lives each year.

Among the risk factors are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking. Regular exercise, good nutrition, and weight control can help lower your risk of developing CAD.

Where you live matters. Although it’s still the leading cause of death, mortality rates have declined in many European countries and in the United States. This may be due to better prevention and access to quality healthcare. However, in many developing nations, mortality rates due to CAD are on the rise.

Music/RadioThe 10 Best Albums Of 2016 (first Quarter) by onakevin(op): 3:33pm On Aug 10, 2016
These are the top ten albums of 2016 so far,

10 - DRAKES - VIEWS
Expectations suck. Damn near all of the criticism of Drake's VIEWS boils down to the extremely high expectations Drake set for himself. He started hyping this album in 2014, and dropped two projects beforehand to hold fans over. And so, by the time he delivered on the album he'd been talking about for so long, expectations were basically unreachable.

Despite all of the fair criticism—the length, the sequencing, the content—VIEWS is still a success. It's currently on a five week run atop the Billboard 200 chart and gave Drake his first solo No. 1 single with "One Dance." It's breaking streaming records and does, in fact, contain memorable songs that Drake can be proud of, even if you have to sift them out of the 20-song experience. Of course, because he occupies the position of biggest rapper in the game, fans are always going to want more, or different. But in true Drake fashion, even when we clown him, he still manages to not take a loss. Best revenge is your paper

9 - KEVIN GATES - ISLAH

Kevin Gates is by no means a new artist, but all the same Islah felt like an introduction to an entirely new audience for the Louisiana rapper. With hits like "2 Phones," which peaked in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and "Really Really," Gates found crossover appeal on a whole new level in 2016, as fans are finally figuring out he's more than just an insane interview sound bite. Of course, in addition to the hits on the project, Gates stayed close to his roots to satisfy day-one fans with the blend of street rap and catchy hooks that's made his career so durable so far. Kevin Gates has already released another project since Islah came out in January, but this is the album that should be remembered as a major turning point in his career.

8 - YOUNG THUG - SLIME SEASON 3
How many people can hop on the aux cord after Kanye West has just finished premiering a brand new album—and very nearly steal the moment out from under Mr. West with just one song? When Thugger played "With Them" it practically hollowed the Garden from the inside out, much like Godzilla did in '98. So really, it should come as no surprise thatSlime Season 3, the project that leads with that song, is his best work to date. Top to bottom, no debates—as Thug continues to hold off on a studio album, his focus improves and his powers only grow stronger. And so we should all be very afraid. This man is speaking Parseltongue over head-banging beats and the result is nothing short of wizardry. Please, run back the urgent climax of "Drippin'." Don't be surprised if the young one ends up with a similarly high placement on the end-of-year articulation of this list—with a totally different project.

7 - JAMES BLAKE - THE COLOUR IN ANYTHING

There's a small exhibition of James Turrell's recent hologram lightworks on view at New York's Pace Gallery right now. Per the artist's website, the pieces are recordings of light waves "on a thin layer of transparent gelatin emulsion. In the emulsion is an image that has full parallax. In other words, it appears to have depth from every vantage point. Unlike traditional holograms that depict objects, the Turrell holograms aim to make a hologram of light itself." The description is apt for James Blake's The Colour In Anything, an album which gives the listener a view of a dimension previously beyond their perception, showcasing songs that come from the recesses of our low and smoldering moments, those we often struggle to name or describe. The album title itself is indicative of the LP's revelatory capabilities; its mission to discover the color and light in these hidden places, to turn a mirror on ourselves and drift deep into memory. The tracks that tap into this reserve are too many to name. "Modern Soul," "Always," "Choose Me," and "My Willing Heart" are just a few of the many highlights; but draw a song title out of a hat, really. Any of them can take you to the place you've been needing to go.

6 - DVSN - SEP 5TH

If OVO Sound is making a play at being an R&B Roc-A-Fella—and Drizzy definitely doesn't seem keen on signing any spitters who aren't childhood friends—then dvsn may be the Beanie Sigel. PARTYNEXTDOOR will always be the label's secret weapon. dvsn—comprised of singer Daniel Daley, producer Nineteen85, and whoever else—is bringing a different arsenal to the armory. Complex Music general Ross Scarano described listening to the seven-minute opus "The Line" as levitating in his apartment. The full length debut's best moments may be with songs that dropped last year, but as a complete listening experience, the music soars high.Sept. 5 is at once cinematic ("With You," also seven minutes) and intimate ("Too Deep," which could stand to be seven minutes). PND's got music for the now, Majid has the '80s throwbacks, and dvsn has that '90s love the game's been missing. OVO squad stacked.

5 - KENDRICK LAMAR - UNTITLED UNMASTERED

To love-vendor a Butterfly was so good, it turned what's essentially a compilation of B-sides from that project into one of the best records of the year. To build buzz around TPAB, Kendrick and company took a different approach and performed a series of untitled songs on late night TV. Fans clamored for the .mp3 files to such a degree that LeBron had to step in and convince TDE to release studio versions. What we eventually got was eight tracks of jazzy funk, unexpected beat switches (one by the five-year-old son of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys), and knotty flows that strengthened Lamar’s claim to rap’s throne for the time being. While most rappers in his position stick to familiar formulas, Lamar keeps going left to give us the unexpected. All hail King Kendrick.

4 - RIHANNA - ANTI

ANTI may have initially felt like an unfinished work to some. Rihanna's long-awaited eighth album resisted dance-floor bangers and Billboard-ready hooks (save a couple tracks); more often, the album is content to let its songs disappear in a puff of smoke after a minute or two. Add to that a confused release courtesy of the album's exclusive partner, Tidal, and ANTI became only more ripe for dismissal. Except, no—it stands out in Rihanna's discography as one of her most artistically and aesthetically compelling projects. The singer's voice thrives across a panorama of musical settings: Tame Impala's "New Person, Same Old Mistakes;" the glowing, jazzy keys on the purring "James Joint;" her cracked, smoke-stained vocals on the 4 a.m. anthem, "Higher;" and in a year when many have simply covered Prince's music, RiRi channeled his spirit to create "Kiss It Better." This is to say nothing of "Work" or "Needed Me," two of 2016's catchiest songs—the former for its infectious chorus, the latter for its sticky catchphrases ("Didn't they tell you that I was a savage?/Bleep your white horse and a carriage"wink. All in all, the album feels effortless and essential, a full-bodied realization of Rihanna's no-bleeps-given attitude.

3 - CHANCE THE RAPPER - COLOURING BOOK

It took three years for Chance the Rapper to deliver the proper follow-up to Acid Rap, the project that turned the Chicago MC into one of the brightest stars rap has seen in some time. That’s a lot of pressure for someone who—purposefully—has no machine behind him. But if Chance ever felt it, he never showed it.

Coloring Book, much like Acid Rap, showcases his ability to create and collaborate with big names without stepping out of the spotlight. Kanye West, Justin Bieber, and Lil Wayne all play to the themes and motifs of the project, like they're happy just to come along on the ride. But the music is more polished here than on Acid Raps, the raps more deeply rooted in well developed themes, whether that be owning up to his independent streak (“I don’t make songs for free, I make ‘em for freedom”) or his use of gospel, like on “Blessings” and “How Great.”

This is Grammy-winning music, even if it doesn't get nominated. Is Chance the only one who still cares about mixtapes? Nah. But there’s nobody out doing it better than him.

2 - KANYE WEST - THE LIFE OF PABLO

Did you know you were into gospel before playing The Life of Pablo? Because that’s what this is, raunchy bars and all. Next time your grandmother asks you when’s the last time you went to church, tell her you go whenever you press play on TLOP. Pablo is one of the best rides of the year, and also one of its most spiritual. Some may have quarrels with Kanye’s overall lyrical effort, but lines like, “Now if I Bleep this model/And she just bleached her asshole/And I get bleach on my T-shirt/I'ma feel like an asshole,” make me smile and provide a pointed contrast to the testifying on songs like "Lowlights." The world is rated X but we all still try to walk a righteous path.

Like your life, Pablo is far from finished. Even if revising an album over time by tweaking beats, altering lines, and adding verses doesn't become the wave for the rest of the music world it's important that Kanye continue to push the envelope, skirting convention while still keeping it hip-hop. The Life of Pablo’s energy outweighs most anything that dropped this year. A DJ can play this joint front to back and the party will be live. Pablo was worth the headache-inducing rollout because our sins are cleansed with each listen.

1 - BEYONCE - LEMONADE

Describing the cumulative effect of the short film Beyoncé created for her sixth album,LEMONADE, novelist Jesmyn Ward wrote, “She’s suffered the pain of infidelity and mistrust and heartbreak, and she’s created and sustained so much beauty from it. A whole family. Songs. Visions. In the end, she walks through the past, present, and future at once, and she is a wondrous new being, arrayed in the intricate lace and tribal cloth of the past, but her garments are cut for the future.”

Weeks removed from the release of the film, the debate continues as to whether the music tells the story of distrust, anger, and reconciliation with the same power as the images that accompany the songs. I think that they do, precisely because the songs contain what Ward described. “The past, present, and future at once,” Ward wrote, and what would that sound like if not a sample of an Alan Lomax field recording and a Kendrick Lamar feature on “Freedom”? Or the voices of James Blake and Beyoncé merging on “Forward”? Or Beyoncéreclaiming traditional rock music for black women on “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” as Brittany Spanos so eruditely described for Rolling Stone?

By invoking the work of Toni Morrison, Clover Hope, writing for Jezebel, made clear that the album is a kind of novel. It has the emotional arc of a great story, opening in media res with “Pray You Catch Me.” (I'd like to take a moment to say that “My lonely ear pressed against the walls of your world” is one of the most beautiful and vivid lines I’ve heard all year.) From there, she eats men and their fenced-off genres like air, using James Blake, Jack White, and the Weeknd as supporting players; absorbing blues, country, rock, and more to refashion them as wholly hers. LEMONADE is the product of a singular unifying vision, and even if the film and the surprise of its rollout aren't passed down to new listeners, it's all right. Because the album already has everything one could need. It's Beyoncé's masterpiece.

What's your take on the list?

AutosThe 10 Most Expensive Cars In The World (2016) by onakevin(op):
The most expensive cars in the world are so much more than transportation. These rolling art pieces encapsulate the priorities of the one percent, and in that universe, flamboyance and swagger take precedence over practicality and efficiency. Lifestyle criticisms aside, these are truly mind-boggling machines, and we’d like to count down our favorites for you here.

10 - $2 MILLION – KOENIGSEGG REGERA
When we think of hybrid hypercars, we generally fantasize about the “holy trinity” — aka the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder, and Ferrari LaFerrari. Somehow, Koenigsegg always gets left out, despite the fact that the Swedish automaker makes a vehicle that outshines its electrified competition in many ways.

Powered by a twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 and a 4.5-kWh battery pack, the $2 million Regera produces an outstanding 1,500 hp in total, a stat made all the more impressive when you consider the car’s low weight of 3,240 lbs. 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds is impressive to be sure, but the Regera’s 0 to 186 mph sprint is even more mind-blowing — the feat is accomplished in only 10.9 seconds. By Koenigsegg’s internal estimates, the car will be able to reach its top speed of 248 mph in just 20 seconds or so, which is a triumph over physics as much as it is a bragging right.

Why just an estimate? Apparently, the brand can’t find a road long enough.

9 - $2 MILLION – KOENIGSEGG ONE:1

You can buy a lot with $2 million — a really nice house, about 80 Mazda MX-5’s, or the Swedish “megacar” shown above. A logical thinker could probably think of a better way to spend your life savings, but megacars don’t give a damn about logic. Because they’re mega. And after reading what the car is capable of, $2 million might actually be a steal.

The limited-edition One:1 is based on the Agera R, and it earned its poetic moniker by employing a 1:1 kilogram-to-horsepower ratio. The figure on each side of the colon? 1,340. That’s right, this car has 1,340 hp, and can theoretically top 273 mph because of it. Simply put, this is one of the fastest automobiles ever made, and with its F1-style honeycomb core, carbon fiber intake manifold, and ventilated ceramic brakes, it’s one of the most advanced as well.

Just six examples of the speedy Swede were built, and each one was sold quite quickly. Keep an eye out on Craigslist though, you never know.

8 - $2.5 MILLION – BUGATTI CHIRON

How do you follow up a classic? You make something even better.

With a starting price of $2.5 million and a gorgeous new body, the divine Chiron outdoes its predecessor in every conceivable way. While the Bugatti Veyron redefined what an automobile could do, the Chiron laughs at those who said the Veyron was the last of its kind, pushing the boundaries of performance even further into the stratosphere.

The supercar’s monstrous specs are made possible by its reworked quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16, which now produces 1,500 hp and a monstrous 1,180 lb-ft. 60 mph is dealt with in a rather quick 2.5 seconds on the way to the Chiron’s top speed, which is limited to 261 mph. It’s still not the fastest car in the world — the title belongs the Hennessey Venom GT — but cars like these aren’t just about speed; they’re about making statements. We think you’ll agree this Bugatti makes a very strong statement indeed.

7 - $2.5 MILLION – FERRARI F60 AMERICA
To celebrate Ferrari’s 60-year tenure in North America, the Italian brand built 10 examples of this stunning bombshell. Based on the F12 Berlinetta, the F60 is undeniably patriotic as it wears a Stars and Stripes color scheme, American flag seat inserts, and classic racing livery all around. Better yet, you can experience the glory with the top down, as the F60 equips a lightweight fabric top that can be operated at speeds up to 75 mph.

The supercar is mechanically identical to the F12, but the Berlinetta isn’t exactly a Fiat Panda to begin with. Its 6.2-liter V12 churns out 740 glorious hp, enough to propel the car to 60 mph in only 3.1 seconds. The ultra-rare flag-waver hearkens back to Ferrari’s bespoke past, as the company built several region-specific sports cars in the 1950s and 1960s.

6 - $2.6 MILLION – PAGANI HUAYRA BC

With an AMG-sourced V12 and the fastest road-legal Top Gear lap ever, the Pagani Huayra is a beast through and through — it’s named after the Incan God of Winds, after all. That wasn’t quite enough for Pagani though, because at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, Pagani debuted the Huayra BC, a lighter, hotter version that takes no prisoners.

Right off the bat, you can tell the BC is playing a different game from the standard Huayra. It’s fitted with an enormous active rear spoiler that generates 1,102 lbs of downforce at 155 mph, as well as a wider rear track, new side skirts, and a bevy of sexy aero goodies. Despite the additions, the BC is a true featherweight, tipping the scales at a paltry 2,654 lbs thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber and other lightweight materials. The whole deal will cost you a cool $2.6 million (or it would have, if all 20 units hadn’t been sold already), but you clearly get a lot for your money. With 789 turbocharged ponies on tap, the BC may actually live up to its godly name.
