The US Supreme Court handed a legal victory to Donald Trump , ruling that his travel ban can be fully enforced pending an appeal. Mr Trump's ban, now in its third iteration , bars travel to the US by residents of six predominantly Muslim countries - Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen. Seven of the court's nine justices agreed to lift two injunctions imposed by lower appeal courts two months ago that had partially blocked the ban while legal challenges to it continue. The ruling meant the open-ended policy could take full effect while those legal challenges are resolved. It was not a final ruling. A White House spokesman said: "We are not surprised by today's Supreme Court decision permitting immediate enforcement of the president's proclamation limiting travel from countries presenting heightened risks of terrorism. "The proclamation is lawful and essential to protecting our homeland. We look forward to presenting a fuller defence of the proclamation as the pending cases work their way through the courts." In a statement, Attorney General Jeff Sessions called the Supreme Court's action "a substantial victory for the safety and security of the American people." Mr Sessions said the Trump administration was heartened that a clear majority of the justices "allowed the president's lawful proclamation protecting our country's national security to go into full effect." There have been protests against the ban Two of the Supreme Court's liberal justices, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor, said they would have denied the Trump administration's request to lift the injunctions. Mr Trump announced the latest version of the ban in September, which led to immediate challenges in US appeals courts in Virginia and California. Opponents in those cases argued that the measure targeted Muslims in violation of the US Constitution, and did not advance security goals as the government claimed. They convinced the two appeals courts to put implementation of the ban on hold while they and government lawyers argued out the case. But the Trump administration has now secured support from the Supreme Court to move ahead with implementing it while the appeals in Virginia and California continue. Hearings are expected in both those cases this week, meaning the ban could wind its way back to to the Supreme Court again in a matter of months. Ahead of the Supreme Court's decision on Monday lawyers for the Trump administration had argued the policy was crucial to protect US national security, and that it was based on a "comprehensive" worldwide review. more info: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/12/04/us-supreme-court-allows-donald-trumps-travel-ban-go-full-effect/

The administration of President Donald Trump has withdrawn the United States from a United Nations pact to improve the handling of migrant and refugee situations, deeming it "inconsistent" with its policies, the US mission to the global body announced Saturday. "Today, the US Mission to the United Nations informed the UN Secretary-General that the United States is ending its participation in the Global Compact on Migration," the Americans said in a statement. In September 2016, the 193 members of the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a non-binding political declaration, the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants, pledging to uphold the rights of refugees, help them resettle and ensure they have access to education and jobs. "The New York Declaration contains numerous provisions that are inconsistent with US immigration and refugee policies and the Trump Administration’s immigration principles. As a result, President Trump determined that the United States would end its participation in the Compact process that aims to reach international consensus at the UN in 2018," the US statement said. US Ambassador Nikki Haley said the country would continue its "generosity" in supporting migrants and refugees around the world, but that "our decisions on immigration policies must always be made by Americans and Americans alone." "We will decide how best to control our borders and who will be allowed to enter our country. The global approach in the New York Declaration is simply not compatible with US sovereignty." Under Trump and his "America First" policies, the United States has withdrawn from several global commitments made under the administration of president Barack Obama, including the Paris climate deal. More recently, American pulled out of the Paris-based culture and education body, UNESCO, accusing it of "anti-Israel bias." for more info http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/12/03/us-pulls-un-migrant-refugee-pact/amp/

The general overseer of the Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet T. B. Joshua, has allegedly helped Libya deportees with N4.4m this week . For some days now, social media has been agog with many Nigerians talking against the slave trade and maltreatment of Nigerians and other black people in Libya. This issue has raised lots of dust as to who to do what and what to do to make things right. Aside from speaking against it, the 54-year-old cleric known for his humanitarian habits, revealed he empowers deportees weekly. He went on to also say he has spent a total of N4,450,000 this week on deportees from Libya, without questioning their religion or tribe. 'As the influx of Nigerians being deported from Libya continues, The SCOAN continue to help in the best way they can - with love in action and words of comfort. Having stared death and brutality in the face – they can now appreciate life. 'bids to ‘make it in life’ the mostly young Nigerians, aged from 15 upwards, travelled illegally in hope of a better future abroad. Many complained of being deceived that the journey would take two weeks and the more you paid to make the trip the smoother it would be. Today, ask them and they will tell you there is nothing smooth about an illegal road trip that entails hunger, hijackings, beatings, kidnappings, brutality and all kinds of abuse. 'The church receives an endless flow of such deportees and on a weekly basis, they are given millions of naira. This week alone N4,450,000 was given to the deportees - without question of their religion, belief or background - alongside food and further assistance. "The beauty of life is not how happy you are but how happy others can be because of you." - T.B. Joshua' Recall that the issue of slave trade which had been lingering on for got the attention of lots of Nigerian celebs this week who showed solidarity by posting about it on social media. 》》》https://news2.onlinenigeria.com/news/general/684494-prophet-tb-joshua-helps-deportees-from-libya-spends-n4-4m-on-them-in-a-week-photos.html

Benin Airport was agog following the arrival of the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokplo, Ewuare the Second from his post coronation thank you visit to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar the Third. Patience Osarogiuwa reports that Palace Chiefs, Enigie, Edionwere and interest groups were at the airport to accord the monarch a rousing welcome. 》》》https://www.itvradionigeria.com/oba-ewuare-ii-returns-benin-successful-post-coronation-visit/ |
It feels automatic. Go to the airport, board the plane. It may never have occurred to you that you always board from the left hand side. And there's a reason for that. Experts say it might even date back centuries to traditional nautical custom. "Early airports were set up so that aircraft could taxi in front of the terminal and stop to discharge passengers," wrote a former US air force pilot on Quora. "It was useful for the pilot to be able to judge wing clearance from the terminal building and to put the aircraft door in front of the terminal doors. Some early transports had right-side doors into the passenger cabin, but the logic of the pilot's field of view prevailed. "At some airports, stairs may be placed at forward and/or aft doors, but to avoid passengers wandering around a busy parking ramp, the loading/unloading is always on the same (almost always the aircraft's left) side. "Also for safety reasons, passenger movement is kept on one side while fuelling is carried out on the other. It is also useful to unload/load baggage and cargo on the opposite side from passenger movement and the loading bridge or stairs." However, Andrew Stagg, calling himself a commercial pilot on the site, had a different take. "I believe the reasoning goes back to ships, which have a port (left) and starboard (right) side. The port side was the one you would embark and disembark from, so most airplane and jetway designers followed the same convention. "While most larger transport category aircraft have two front and two rear exits, the placement of catering trucks and baggage loading equipment on the right, makes using the right doors impractical." 》》》http://www.247nigerianewsupdate.co/2017/12/this-is-why-we-board-planes-from-left.html?m=1

Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli has reacted to the 2018 World Cup draw which will see his team facing Nigeria, Iceland and Croatia in the group stage of the competition. Only 17 days ago, the Super Eagles humiliated the two-time world champions 4-2 in a showcase international friendly in Krasnodar, Southern Russia. ''They are rivals who come with few obligations and a lot of enthusiasm, the World Cup gives them a unique opportunity,'' said Sampaoli to Argentine TV sports channel TyC Sports. ''Iceland will put up a fight like everyone. Croatia has an excellent midfield with Modric, Rakitic and Perisic, they are a very strong team. ''Nigeria are unpredictable, they are very quick in their play. We recently overcame them clearly in the first half but they got a result later. We have to beat them.'' The Super Eagles face off with the South Americans at the Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg on June 26, 2018 in both countries final group game. for more info http://allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=25655

Anambra State government has described Chukwuemeka Ojukwu Jnr., son of late Ikemba of Nnewi, as an inflated political balloon that has no electoral value or consequence in Igboland, the South-East and the entire country and as such, is politically inconsequential, without any base. Senior Special Assistant on Media and Strategic Communications to the Governor of Anambra State, Prince Oliver Okpala, made the assertion in response to Ojukwu Junior’s statement and defection to All Progressives Congress, APC . He said: “It is now very clear from his action that Ojukwu junior cannot claim to have the same sound intellectual background or pedigree with the late Ikemba ,even though he is a direct son of the Ikemba . “It is a matter of pure pathetic fallacy for the Junior Ikemba to say that Governor Obiano is lobbying him to come back to APGA, which he claimed he won’t accept. “One wonders on what ground anybody would ever lobby him to return to APGA, while he never held any important position to warrant being described as a stakeholder or a leader of the party when he was in APGA. “In his lifetime, the Great Ikemba was the champion of the struggle for the rights and emancipation of his people, standing firm with his Igbo brothers and sisters, never betraying their cause. “But for anybody associated with the great Ikemba to work against the political interest of his people is to say the least an act of monumental betrayal and grand treachery.” “I wonder what the Great Ikemba would be thinking when his supposed son openly denied the only political entity which he left for us the Igbo as a unifying political umbrella.” https://www.onlinenigeria.com/site/stories/404949-ojukwus-son-as-an-inflated-political-balloon.html

Real Madrid and Wales star Gareth Bale reportedly wants to hire Beyonce to perform at his wedding next year. Bale is set to marry his long-term partner Emma Rhys-Jones in the spring and the Sun report that the pair would like the former Destiny's Child star to entertain the guests. The wedding is due to take place in Italy and was delayed after Rhys-Jones' father was imprisoned for fraud in the US. The 'Halo' and 'Crazy in Love' hitmaker is believed to charge up to £1.5million for a private appearance and the report claims that Bales' representatives are in negotiations to see if they can make an appearance happen. The couple are childhood sweethearts and live in Madrid with their two daughters. As well the ceremony in Italy, they are also planning to have a party in Wales. Bale is on a £300,000-a-week contract with Real Madrid and has been linked with a move back to the Premier League next summer, with Manchester United said to be interested in his signature. The 28-year-old has won three Champions League and one La Liga title during his time in Spain, following his £80million move from Tottenham in 2013. Beyonce, who married hip-hop star Jay-Z in 2008, has sold an estimated 100million records as a solo artist. |
