A Nigerian and a Sierra Leone national have been arrested in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for attempting to smuggle drugs into Australia.

The duo identified as Ogadimma Igwe Linus, 39 and Conth Abdul, a 29-year-old man from Sierra Leone, were arrested alongside a Cambodian woman, Han Lis, 28.

It was gathered that on October 6, 2020, at 9:45 am, the Anti-drug Department collaborated with Fedex Express in an operation coordinated by the Phnom Penh court prosecutor Soeung Moneyroth, to check out an unusual package which was hidden among some books being sent to Australia from Phnom Penh.

The officers discovered 993.42 grams of the methamphetamine drug (ICE) inside the package of books.

The suspects and the evidence were sent to the anti-drug department for case preparation ,,

A story, which hit the headlines, making a girl famous in Nigeria. The minor, Masenengen, who lost her father right after birth, was abandoned at the North Bank Area General Hospital in Makurdi on a Sunday evening.

Her mother was reportedly married to another man in a remote village. Since then, the girl had survived the mercy of the streets.

The young mother’s condition in the hospital drew sympathizers, even as she cried uncontrollably after having labor spasms for three days before being taken to the hospital.

As the case caused a stir with the number of curious people skyrocketing, a benevolent individual by the name of Ukan Kurugh, popular for his humanitarian work, took action that yielded positive results.


Ukan Kurugh confided that shortly after hearing the story, he rushed to the hospital. In agreement with the staff and relatives who had come to assist the girl. He requested that she be transferred to a hospital established by the Konshisha Street Foundation.

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Tuesday sentenced 37-year-old Chukwu Ndukwu to eight months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone.

The Judge, Mr Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave the convict option of N11, 000 fine, warning him to be of good behaviour.

Maiwada also ordered him to pay N60,000 as compensation to the complainant, Mr Precious Nwaneri.

The convict had admitted committing the offences and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.

He had told the court that he did not know what came over him when he committed the crime.

Earlier, prosecutor Ijeoma Ukagha told the court that Nwaneri of Karmo reported the matter at the Utako Police Station,

Abuja, on Sept. 9, adding that on the same date, the convict and one other now at large, snatched the complainant’s LG phone valued at N90,000 and Zte phone valued at N10,000.

Angry family members of a deceased man who died in a shanty fire in Galeshewe, Kimberly, South Africa on Friday, October 2, took the body to a local bank after the bank did not pay out the funeral policy.

According to one of the brother's of the deceased, Thabo Tshite, they had no other option as they already had made arrangements to bury their brother.



“Our brother died in the fire at about 2am on Tuesday. We immediately reported his death and also informed the bank. Our 70-year-old father is the policy holder and he was told what documents were required for the claim," said Tshite.


Tshite said they followed all the procedures and completed the necessary paperwork timeously in order for the claim to be processed.

"The bank told us they wanted police clearance and all other necessary documentation. We submitted all the necessary documents on the same day. The bank said the payout would be made between 24 and 48 hours. We were relieved as we made it clear to them that my brother died in a horrific manner and we wished to bury him as soon as possible,"


"We were thinking about the state of the body because he had burned beyond recognition. The bank seemed to understand our wish and said we would receive the payout. However, it is now more than 48 hours and the money still does not reflect in the bank account of our father."

It's was serious demonstration of Power and right yesterday  following the Sit-at-home  orders issued by the Mazi Nnandi Kanu of the Indigenous people of Biafra  (Ipob)

IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu said the call was to protest “bad governance and economic annihilation”.



He urged the Igbo everywhere to boycott all activities organised to mark Independence Day celebrations.

Kanu, in a statement on Thursday by IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful, said: “The sit-at-home order issued by the global movement on 1st of October 2020 is totally successful in so many states and cities in Biafraland.”



He said all states in the Southeast and Southsouth within ‘Biafraland’, including Abia, Rivers, Ebonyi, Anambra, Imo and Delta states, complied with the order.

He said the compliance with “this order is to showcase our readiness for the speedy coming of Biafra freedom and independence”.



“We thank our people in South Africa, USA, Canada, Britain, France, Japan, Germany, Indonesia, Australia and other countries of the world for their resoluteness declared to the world over that we are no longer interested in Nigeria.



“The whole world must understand that IPOB cannot go back to Nigeria,” Kanu said.

But our correspondents observed that, contrary to IPOB’s claim, a majority of residents did not heed the call in Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and parts of Abia and Rivers states.

It was unsuccessful in Imo as many people trooped out for their businesses. Markets, stores and artisans all opened.



Except for banks and government offices that were closed due to the holiday, people were seen moving about freely the capital city of Owerri.



It was also business as usual in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi capital, as residents went about their normal business activities.

Vehicles moved in and out of the state as the usual commercial activities went on unhindered.

Markets in the state, especially the Margaret International Market Abakaliki, were open when our reporter checked.

Police spokesman, Loveth Odah, said there was no reported case of harassment from citizens by any group.

The directive recorded low compliance in parts of Port Harcourt.

Our reporter who monitored Eliozu, Rumuodara and Tank junction areas discovered that most of the shops were open just as markets were on.

At Ikokwu automobile spare parts market along Ikwerre Road, traders were seen either sitting or standing in small groups talking.

Some others crowded a newsstand close to the place chatting and arguing.



A trader, Uzo Aladinma, said he regretted that almost “nothing is working out in this country”.

“People are being killed in parts of the country on daily basis, nobody is doing anything about it.

“The President is favouring his people over the other parts in job offers, political appointments. There is hunger, hardship, lack of employment, among others.

“We cannot continue to live like this.

The Federal Government should understand this, and call for a referendum so that every part goes their separate ways.”

Security Operatives, especially the police, were deployed around the Ikoku area as the men blocked one lane of the dual carriageway of Olu-Obasanjo.

There was partial compliance in Anambra, but residents attributed it to the public holiday rather than the IPOB call.

The popular Eke -Awka market in Awka and the Onitsha Main Market bubbled with activities.

But, some markets, including street shops monitored by our correspondent in Onitsha and Nnewi, were locked.

The suspect, Abdullahi Maikudi, 27, of Katsina State was arrested alongside his accomplice Rabiu Abdullahi, 23, of Kano State for stealing the sum of N 6 m from a businessman in Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger state.


Spokesman of the command, ASP Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, October 1, said the suspects were apprehended by police operatives attached to the Area Command, Minna, following a tip-off, adding that the police recovered N3.8 m and 410 Cefas from them.



According to ASP Abiodun, Maikudi, lodged in a hotel in Tegina, where he met a businessman on September 25. He was said to have monitored the victim and established friendship with the victim, saying they were from the same state.

During their interaction, he offered the victim a cup of tea laced with tramadol. The buisnessman fell asleep within 10 minutes of taking the drink.

"He offered him a cup of tea laden with tramadol which makes the man fell asleep. The suspect later entered the man's room and stole his bag containing about six million naira and fled to Kano State, where he met Rabiu Abdullahi who was aiding him to flee the country.



The two suspects were arrested at Fagge, Kano State and the sum of #3,850,000:00k and 410 cefas were recovered from them. Case is under investigation." the statement reads.



Speaking to newsmen, Maikudi confessed how he that he usually drugged his victims before dispossessing them of their valuables. He claimed to have been doing this for over four years.

Award-winning Japanese actress, Yuko Takeuchi has been found dead at the age of 40.

Yuko was found dead early on Sunday morning by her husband, actor Nakabayashi Taiki, in their Tokyo apartment, according to Variety. Her death was confirmed at a hospital.

The actress did not leave a note, but the outlet noted 'death by suicide is being presumed.'

In a statement to The Japan Times, her talent agency, Stardust Promotion said:'It came all of a sudden, and we are all stunned and saddened by the news.'

She is survived by her husband and two children, including a nine-month-old son.
