No, I did not and I still do not have a good relationship with them.

My father was tough , abusive and extremely malicious.. made it clear he wasn't my friend or mate. The only time I could stay even 1 minute close to him was either he was beating me or verbally abusing me.

My mother was excessively judgemental and annoyingly over religious. She also believed I was a child and never had a say.

I left home as a teenager to university and stayed away for 3 years.. didn't visit and they didn't bother.
They didn't attend my matriculation, induction and convocation.
I learnt how to celebrate my wins alone.
First picture I took with my parents was during my wedding.
My siblings and I never had one family picture with them.

Today, I just send money when I want to. We still don't relate.
I don't know how to talk to/gist with them especially my father. My children do not know them.

I haven't spoken to my mum in 3 months and my dad in 11 months. I try not to pick his calls because we have nothing to discuss.
It's too late to begin building a relationship.

Don’t use the same behaviour from your parent to teach your kids, infact, when I have kids, I will always make sure all of them are friends with me, so that they get to express themselves very well, build good relationship with me and even among themselves. While growing up, most of our parents have this mentality of treating kids with harsh mindset which is not good. Let your kids be free with you, expose them to dating life from young age not to fall into trap of what is currently happening with kids of today, laugh with them , play with them and know when to set healthy boundaries with them.
