A huge change is underway in China.

Over the next 10 years, the country plans to move 250 million people — the equivalent of Indonesia's entire population — into the country's rapidly-growing megacities.

To accommodate that enormous migration, the country has invested billions of dollars in massive infrastructure projects. Some are already complete, while others are still in the works.

From highways that span the continent, to the largest wind power base in the world, to enormously popular airports, to new cities in the desert, China is showing what it really means to do big things.

Sports / Soccer Officials Arrested In Zurich; World Cup Votes Probed by Onlytru: 4:49pm On May 27, 2015
it took America, a country that thinks football is played with your hands, to stand up and do something about corrupt #FIFA #FIFAarrests @FA @Bigmick_LFC

ZURICH (AP) -- Swiss prosecutors opened criminal proceedings into FIFA's awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, only hours after seven soccer officials were arrested Wednesday pending extradition to the U.S. in a separate probe of "rampant, systemic, and deep-rooted" corruption.
FIFA, meanwhile, said Friday's presidential election would go ahead as planned with Sepp Blatter going for a fifth term. Blatter was not named in either investigation.
FIFA also ruled out a revote of the World Cups won by Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022.

The Swiss prosecutors' office said in a statement they seized "electronic data and documents" at FIFA's headquarters on Wednesday as part of their probe. And Swiss police said they will question 10 FIFA executive committee members who took part in the World Cup votes in December 2010. The Swiss investigation against "persons unknown on suspicion of criminal mismanagement and of money laundering" again throws into the doubt the integrity of the voting.

"FIFA is fully cooperating with the investigation and is supporting the collection of evidence in this regard," FIFA said in a statement.
The Swiss announcement came only hours after 14 people were indicted in the U.S. for corruption. Seven of them were arrested and detained by Swiss police at the request of U.S. authorities after a raid at a luxury hotel in Zurich. The U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement that two current FIFA vice presidents were among those arrested and indicted, Jeffrey Webb of the Cayman Islands and Eugenio Figueredo of Uruguay. The others are Eduardo Li of Costa Rica, Julio Rocha of Nicaragua, Costas Takkas of Britain, Rafael Esquivel of Venezuela and Jose Maria Marin of Brazil. All seven are connected with the regional confederations of North and South America and face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. "The indictment alleges corruption that is rampant, systemic, and deep-rooted both abroad and here in the United States," Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch said in the statement. "It spans at least two generations of soccer officials who, as alleged, have abused their positions of trust to acquire millions of dollars in bribes and kickbacks."

Nine of the 14 that were indicted by the Justice Department are soccer officials, while four are sports marketing executives and another works in broadcasting. Jack Warner, a former FIFA vice president from Trinidad and Tobago, was among those indicted.
The Swiss prosecutors' office said the U.S. probe was separate from its investigation but that authorities were working together.
The U.S. case involves bribes "totaling more than $100 million" linked to commercial deals dating back to the 1990s for soccer tournaments in the United States and Latin America, the Swiss Federal Office of Justice said. The Justice Department said the corruption is linked to World Cup qualifying matches and the Copa America - South America's continental championship.
Dozens of soccer officials are in Switzerland for the FIFA congress and presidential election, where Blatter is widely expected to win re-election at the helm of the governing body of world soccer.

Blatter had been scheduled to attend a meeting of the Confederation of African Football in a different downtown Zurich hotel, but he canceled his appearance. Blatter's only opponent in Friday's presidential election, Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan, said it was "a sad day for football," but declined to comment further. The arrests were made at the lakeside Baur au Lac Hotel in downtown Zurich, long favored as a place for senior FIFA officials to stay. It was the stage for intense lobbying for votes ahead of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup hosting decisions in December 2010. In Florida, a small group of agents from the FBI and IRS executed search warrants at CONCACAF headquarters in Miami Beach. Neither agency offered comment on the investigation. The North American regional body, known as CONCACAF, reported itself to U.S. tax authorities in 2012. Then based in New York, the organization had not paid taxes over several years when its president was Warner and secretary general was Chuck Blazer of the United States.

Warner left soccer in 2011 to avoid FIFA sanctions in a bribery scandal during that year's presidential election. Blazer left in 2013 and has pleaded guilty to charges, the Justice Department said in Wednesday's statement. Warner's successor as CONCACAF leader and FIFA vice president is Webb, who was staying at the Baur au Lac this week. The Swiss Federal Office of Justice said in its statement that U.S. authorities suspect the arrested officials of having received or paid bribes totaling millions of dollars and that the crimes were agreed to and prepared in the U.S., and payments carried out via U.S. banks. "The bribery suspects - representatives of sports media and sports promotion firms - are alleged to have been involved in schemes to make payments to the soccer functionaries (FIFA delegates) and other functionaries of FIFA sub-organizations - totaling more than USD 100 million," the FOJ statement said.

A statement in German added that the probe involved tournaments in the United States. International media gathered at the street entrance of the Baur au Lac in scenes reminiscent of the World Cup votes won by Russia and Qatar more than four years ago. Then, former President Bill Clinton was inside meeting FIFA voters who later rejected the American bid in favor of Qatar, and Britain's Prince William was part of the losing English bid team. Suspicions of vote-buying and wrongdoing in those bidding contests have dogged FIFA ever since.

Romance / Men: Please Don't Ever Consider Marrying These 10 Types Of Women...#killer Facts by Onlytru: 8:08pm On Mar 12, 2015
1. The Chatterbox
This is the woman who never shuts up, barely stopping to breathe. Seemingly only concerned about what is going on in her life, she always has to make a comment about everything and dominates conversations.

2. The Desperate Chick
This type of woman will seem fantastic at first, until she starts talking about your wedding location, how many kids she wants and the name of your future dog–right after the first date! When a woman advances WAY faster than normal, watch out. She NEEDS a man so bad that she’s willing to put anybody in that slot, even the homeless
guy on the corner.

3. The Overly-Critical Woman
Anything you do for this type of woman is simply not good enough. Nothing seems to work unless it is done according to her standards. Anything that is said by anyone will be quickly taken out of context to become some sort of insult or some reason to wage war against the world. This type of woman has plenty of emotional baggage and will make you an angry and bitter person as there will be nothing but misery with her.
4. The Bimbo
This type of woman can’t obtain a GED but has managed to secure a PhD in the science of the bedroom. This is an intellectually challenged woman who looks great but, in all honesty, shouldn’t open her mouth. Her skills are unquestionably only rooted in the physical realm and unless you’re just after one-night stands, you do not want to bring a stupid girl home to meet Mom and Dad. The majority of girls you see on the streets everyday fall into this category,

5. The High Maintenance Chick
If this type of woman breaks a nail, she expects you to drop everything you’re doing to drive her to the salon immediately. Her daddy always told her she was a princess and she expects to be treated like one at all times. She has expensive taste and expects you to shower her with only the best things and take her out to posh places on a regular basis. If you don’t have a lot of money and a penchant for luxury, don’t even bother.

6. The Clingy Girl
This woman is a nuisance who can’t go anywhere or do anything without the company of her man. She’ll adopt your interests, calls 20 times a day and fly off the handle anytime she’s not around to monitor your behavior. This type of woman will smother any chance of you missing her by insisting that you spend every waking moment with her, refusing to let you go out with the boys or spend any significant amount of time with anyone else.

7. The Baby’s Mama
This woman has a great physique, great personality and her toes are pretty too! There’s only one problem–she’s got a pretty large amount of children with assorted “baby-daddy’s”, and when women like this get desperate, any and every guy has the potential to be “daddy.” This woman got knocked up by somebody that she was supposedly in love with, and not only is she a bad judge of character, she’s GROSSLY irresponsible. The same guys that are “jerks” now are the same guys she once thought the world of and had unprotected sex with.

8. The Gold Digger
The Gold-Digger will compliment you on your expensive watch, ask you what kind of car you drive, what you do for a living, where you live and so on. Like the high maintenance woman, the Gold Digger is basically looking for a sugar daddy, she’ll size you up within the first five minutes and drop you just as quickly if your cash flow runs out and you can’t take her shopping anymore. These types of women will just suck your wallet dry and leave you emasculated. Fortunately, you can usually see this type coming from a mile away. She wants to write out the names of all her designer items and post it on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

9. The Club Girl
Club girls are nothing more than fantasy women who have been practically living in bars and clubs since they hit the legal drinking age. They have beautiful faces with full lips, big doe eyes, great legs, and all the curves you could ever ask for. The problem in dating these women is that they love to wear clothes that show off their great assets not just to you, but to every Tom, man-hood and Harry on the street. A woman like this may be carefree and wild; however, once you take a closer look, you’ll realize that her entire life is a party and most nights will end with her puking in your car. Or waking up hungover, in some guy’s bed in the morning.

10. The Feminist
This type of woman can never be pleased by a man and she believes that men are the cause of all the pains and suffering of society. It is her strong belief that women are much more intelligent than men and are capable of doing things “the right way”. You don’t want to waste any time with this type of woman because anything that you do willalways be negative to her.

Investment / Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Onlytru: 4:57pm On Mar 09, 2015
Is good to see more Nigerians trying to invest their money for future financial security. Now the only two less risky investment that most Nigerians tend to go for his either Fixed Deposit Investment or Treasury Bills Investment (T-bills). I have been involved in both investment multiple times but after carefully review of my returns and the risks involve (which is pretty NADA to be candid) I can state with all confidence that Fixed Deposit investment is the best between the two.

Now before I let the cat out of the bag, let me quickly add that this simple logic I am about to unveil is only viable for folks that want to invest at least ₦2 million and up and also for a full calendar year because if you are planning to invest less than the stated amount (₦2 million) the interest rate plus the number of days of investment in your portfolio will not add up. Now let's get started---

Treasury Bills Investment
As we all are aware that treasury bills investment is the least risky investment out there with moderate return and plus the attractive rates folks are getting on it lately, thus making it the number one option for most folks to invest in but does the returns on this investment really worth the hype?! I do not think so...
For example Mister A has ₦5 million to invest in T-bills for 365 days at Bank 1. They offered him 14.5% (for the sake of this argument lets round it up to 15%). At the end of 365 days (1 YEAR) Mister A will receives ₦750k back in return after 1 Year

Fixed Deposit Investment
Now if Mister A takes the same ₦5 million to Bank 1 and request to fixed the same amount for 90 days (with automatic roll over after 90 days and insist on the same fixed rate) which most banks will offer Mister A 10% or more (but most folks will not agree with me but for the sake of argument let say he was able to get 10% for 90 days). At the end of 90 days Mister A will receives ₦500k in return X 4 = ₦2million cool cash. A return of 40% compare to 15% of T-bills for the same number of days.

As we all can see the return on Fixed Deposit is by far the best investment option between the two. As for me T-bills does not really worth the hype. Yall free to do your investigation.

Cats are useless and they basically don't do anything. The only thing they r good @ is killing rats/mices which is not enough for me. Unlike dogs, they guide, protect n above all they are man's best friend. If you die as a cat owner after some hrs the bastard will eat your dead body but dogs they will mourn you for days. #teamdog

Culture / Re: Do African Americans Have A Culture? by Onlytru: 5:55am On Sep 09, 2014
Nebeuwa: I was recently arguing with a Nigerian friend of mine, concerning this topic. She believes that African Americans do not have a culture and that it is only a subset of the wider American culture.

At first, I was offended when she made that statement, because I saw that as an attack on half of my identity through my maternal side. I stated by looking at our music, our cuisine and our form of speech, that is an expression of culture.

So do you all think African Americans have a culture or not?

Education / Re: Most Expensive Universities In Nigeria (2014) by Onlytru: 3:26pm On Jul 06, 2014
It's sad that most folks in this forum are ill-informed. Even in America 70% of the colleges/universities are owned by Catholic and the least expensive among them are around $40k (~ #7million). The states own higher institutions are not far fetched from that price range. In a nut-shell college diploma is skyrocketing all over the globe not only in Nigeria.

Culture / Nigerian Survivor Almost Missed Rescue Diver by Onlytru: 12:59am On Dec 12, 2013
He had survived three days in an upside down tugboat at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean and then he saw lights in the water. Air bubbles rose around the cook as he squatted in an air pocket. A diver was coming. Rescue seemed imminent for Harrison Odjegba Okene.

But then the lights disappeared. Desperate, Okene swam through pitch-dark waters in the sunken boat to grab the diver. Okene couldn't find him and, with the air in his lungs giving out, he swam back to the cabin that held his precious, but dwindling, pocket of air.

In an exclusive interview with The Associated Press, Okene described the ordeal and his miraculous rescue that was videotaped and which went viral after it was put on the Internet this month.

The 29-year-old still has nightmares and vows to never return to the sea again. He has taken a new job as cook on firm ground instead.

Okene was the only survivor in a crew of 12 when the boat capsized in May. It still haunts him. In addition with being saddled with survivors' guilt, some Nigerians believe he saved himself through black magic.

The Jascon 4 was resting on the seabed upside down at a depth of about 100 feet (30 meters).

The chubby cook survived on only one bottle of Coke. Two flashlights that he had found gave up after less than one day. In the dark, he had almost given up hope after three days when he suddenly heard the sound of a boat, a hammering on the side of the vessel and then, after a while, saw lights and the rising waters around him bubbling.

He said he knew it had to be a diver, but he was on the wrong end of the cabin.

"He came in but he was too fast, so I saw the light but before I could get to him, he was already out. I tried to follow him in the pitch darkness but I couldn't trace him, so I went back."

His rescuers from the Dutch company DCN Diving were looking only for bodies and already had recovered four corpses when they came upon Okene.

When the diver returned, Okene had to swim again to reach him and still he did not see him. "So I tapped him at the back of his neck, so he was afraid." When the diver saw his hand he said "corpse, corpse, a corpse," into his microphone, reporting up to the rescue vessel.

"When he brought his hand close to me, I pulled on his hand," Okene said.

"He's alive! He's alive! He's alive!" Okene remembers hearing.

Okene described a surreal scene after the diver emerged into the air pocket.

"I knew when he gave me water he was observing me (to see) if I'm really human, because he was afraid," he told the AP last Thursday.

The diver first used hot water to warm him up, then attached him to an oxygen mask. Once saved from sunken boat, he was put into a decompression chamber for 60 hours before he could safely return to the surface.

Until his rescue, Okene believed his colleagues must have escaped. The tug was one of three towing a Chevron oil tanker in Nigeria's oil-rich Delta waters, but on May 26 there was a sudden lurch and it keeled over.

"I heard people shouting, I felt the vessel going down, going down, I heard a voice saying 'Is this vessel sinking or what?' ... I was in the WC (toilet) and the WC fell on my head, things started falling on my head ... My colleagues were shouting 'God help me, God help me, God help me.' Then after a while I never heard from them (again)."

When recounting the rescue at his local church, the pastor asked him if he had used black magic to survive.

"I was so surprised! How could a man of God be saying this?" Okene said, his voice rising in disbelief.

He didn't go to the funerals of his colleagues because he feared their families' reactions — Nigerians being generally very religious but also superstitious.

"I couldn't go because I didn't know what the family will say, thinking 'Why is he the only one to survive,'" said Okene.

It's a question that has shaken his steadfast faith. "Every week I ask (God) 'Why only me? Why did my colleagues have to die?'"

His wife Akpovona Okene, 27, said he still suffers nightmares. "When he is sleeping, he has that shock, he will just wake up in the night saying 'Honey see, the bed is sinking, we are in the sea."

Okene said he made a pact with God when he was at the bottom of the ocean: "When I was under the water I told God: If you rescue me, I will never go back to the sea again, never."

Celebrities / "Africans Ar Ugly Souls" - Oluchi Onweagba-Orlandi by Onlytru: 5:51am On Nov 14, 2013
The super model dissed some journalists at her press conference today, and even went further by insulting the heck out of Africans (oh thought her parents were from China) and her generation from Japan? Idiot

Read further how the whole insults and name tagging started,

Less than three weeks after Nigerian international model, Oluchi Onweagba-Orlandi launched a series of attacks on Twitter and called her fellow Africans animals, she, on Friday 8 November, re-enacted her saucy side as she insulted a group of journalists who were at the premiere of her new show, Africa’s Next Top Model.

Oluchi, who was the chief hostess at the weekend event held at Pravada Lounge on Victoria Island, Lagos, created an ugly drama as she snubbed the media reps who had asked to be treated well after being made to stand while others were on their seats during the delayed press conference.

P.M.NEWS Showbiz Trends gathered that the whole drama started after the model, who came far late into the event, caused the organisers to move the earlier scheduled media briefing into the noisy main hall of the night club. And of course, the journalists were not comfortable with the arrangement considering the boisterous crowd and noise.

After about three questions and her impolite responses, the newsmen stopped asking questions. Oluchi sensed their coldness and then asked if there were further questions, to which one of the journalists expressed disgust over the humiliation they had been subjected to.

Rather than apologise, Oluchi angrily muttered: “I am only here to party and not to be answering questions.”

And she walked away leaving the angry journalists in the middle of the club.

When the organisers went to confer with her, she remained adamant. Even when the whole scenario was reported to the publisher of a fashion and lifestyle magazine, and our correspondent was invited to iron out the matter, Oluchi threw caution to the winds when she told the reporter, “Don’t touch me please,” when she was about to be stopped from walking away for the second time.

“Oluchi should be world class…she should be able to control herself in public no matter how upset she is. It’s called anger management,” said a concerned guest who observed the drama at the event. P.M.NEWS Showbiz Trends learnt that Oluchi has a record of bad temperament and is said to be hostile to journalists.

That was what manifested when she threw caution to the winds with her recent outburst on Twitter. Her series on Twitter read:

“I am disgusted. DISGUSTED by human behaviour…Africans be like “no funds no meetings”… MONEY is not the root of evil. “Greedy Humans” are the root of evil… Hopefully I won’t throw up soon. Bunch of inconsiderate animals!!!!…They know price tag of everything and the VALUE of nothing!!!…Incompetent idiots. Ugly souls. Monsters in human forms!…They won’t let me enjoy my beauty sleep!”

And she got a lot of bashing for her coarse tweets. One Akindele wrote then:

“This girl is just a fool…so because you marry Oyibo now, folks back home are now ‘Africans’? Shame, a Nigerian should be propagating this sort of ignorance. Can’t she just say ‘These guys’ or even be specific? But she would rather tag all Africans, feeding into stereotypes of racists around her. Nonsense, is Africa one country? How many Africans have she met? Village girl made into Face of Africa.””"

IEA: US Will Be World's Biggest Oil Producer by 2015

The International Energy Agency (IAE) says that by 2015, the United States will surpass Saudi Arabia and Russia as the world's biggest oil producer and is on track to become energy self-sufficient in two decades.

The IEA said Tuesday that for the next 10 years the recent U.S. and Canadian success with shale oil drilling and deepwater production in Brazil will reduce the role of the Middle East-dominated Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries as the world's most prominent oil producer.

But the Paris-based adviser to 28 energy-consuming nations said the U.S. position as the top world oil producer will end by the mid-2020s as resources diminish at the fields being tapped at the moment in the mid-country states of North Dakota and Texas. The IEA said Middle East countries will then provide most of the increase in the global oil supply.

In its annual World Energy Outlook, the IEA said the U.S. is moving steadily "towards meeting all of its energy needs from domestic resources in 2035." Energy self-sufficiency has long been a goal of American leaders.

Across the globe, the IEA said the demand for energy will increasingly be driven by emerging economies, and that China will surpass the United States as the world's largest oil consumer by about 2030. The report said that China, India and the Middle East will drive global energy demand one-third higher.

But the IEA said energy security throughout the world is being undermined by high prices, with oil prices averaging more than $110 a barrel since 2011.

The IEA's executive director, Maria van der Hoeven, said that such "a sustained period of high oil prices is without parallel." But the agency predicted oil will go even higher, reaching $128 a barrel by 2035.

The IEA said that while the price of oil is "relatively uniform" worldwide, natural gas prices vary widely. With huge gas production in the U.S., the IEA said American consumers and businesses pay sharply lower prices than in Europe and Japan, where much of the fuel must be imported.

For Nigerian artist Joseph Omotoye, the human body can be a one-man band.

Omotoye, known as Jojo Bodybeats, uses his entire body — including his mouth, lips, shoulder, chest, stomach and a spoon beaten against his cheeks — to make extraordinary "body music."

Omotoye says that for him, everyday bodily functions can be opportunities to make music on his "bodiophone." He belches, sneezes, talks, eats and drinks to his own rhythm.

Health / New Strain Of Gonorrhea Considered To Be Worse Than AIDS by Onlytru: 2:59pm On Sep 18, 2013
You’ve spent much of your life afraid of what could happen if you were infected with HIV. But then, with the advancement of drugs and the end of AIDS as a death sentence, we find that any relief we might have experienced was only short-lived.

Doctors are finding a new form of gonorrhoea that is not only resistant to all available treatments, but it’s considered to be worse than AIDS.

Gonorrhea HO41 is the name of the new infection, and it was found two years ago in a Japanese sex worker. According to William Smith from the US National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD), the potential for danger is tremendous.
“It’s an emergency situation,” Mr Smith told CNBC. “As time moves on, it’s getting more hazardous.”

“That’s what’s kind of scary about this. We are at lows in terms of infections, but this strain is a very tricky bug and we don’t have anything medically to fight it right now.”

Currently, the NCSD has asked for millions from the federal government in order to fight off the disease. They say that if they don’t get help now, it’s going to be incredibly expensive to treat here in the US.
“This might be a lot worse than Aids in the short run because the bacteria is more aggressive and will affect more people quickly,” Dr. Alan Christianson told CNBC.

“Getting gonorrhoea from this strain might put someone into septic shock and death in a matter of days,” he said.

Sports / Usain Bolt Makes History In 200M Final by Onlytru: 12:55am On Aug 18, 2013
Usain Bolt made it look easy in making more history, winning the 200 meters in 19.66 seconds at the World Championships on Saturday.

Bolt, 26, became the first man to win three world titles in the 200 and remained undefeated over the distance at major international championships since his first Olympic gold in the event in 2008.

Bolt breezed past medal threat Adam Gemili of Great Britain on the turn and then cruised on the final straight so much so that silver medalist Warren Weir cut into Bolt’s winning margin. Weir was never a threat of passing Bolt in the final meters, though.

“I said that I want to be remembered like (Muhammad) Ali, Pele and the greats,” Bolt said, according to the Jamaica Gleaner. “This is another step towards that.”

Bolt’s winning time was by far his slowest at an Olympic or worlds final. His world record is 19.19, set at the 2009 World Championships. His slowest previous final was the 2011 worlds, where he won in 19.40 seconds.

Weir, the Olympic bronze medalist, won silver, matching his personal best of 19.79 seconds. American Curtis Mitchell earned bronze in 20.04, his first major international medal. (full results below)

“I just had to use all heart coming down the straight,” Mitchell told NBC Sports reporter Lewis Johnson. “For me to come out here and get a medal, it’s unbelievable.”

The final lacked the reigning Olympic silver medalist, the injured Yohan Blake, the defending world silver and bronze medalists, the injured Walter Dix and Christophe Lemaitre, as well as Americans Tyson Gay (failed drug tests) and Justin Gatlin (opted out of the 200 at nationals).

Bolt celebrated by taking a photographer’s camera and appearing to snap photos, just as he did at the 2012 Olympics. He and Weir danced to Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds,” according to The Associated Press. Bolt also wished good luck to each of his other seven competitors before the final.

The Jamaican now owns nine career world medals, second among men only to Carl Lewis‘ 10. His seven career world golds only trail Lewis and Michael Johnson (both have eight) among men.

The 19.66 matched Bolt’s 10th fastest time ever and Johnson’s first world record set in 1996, before Johnson reset it with a 19.32 in the Olympic final. Johnson is commentating for the BBC in Moscow this week
