Hmmmm....you buy rice, garri, water and give her money for other personal stuffs yet 70k doesn't carry you two for 2 weeks for other food items. It is well....the country has really gone to the dogs.

If I were you, I would sit with madam and let her know how far I could be stretched in terms of financing the house and decide on how much we will actually spend for food. This is because even if you increase it to 200k,if madam isn't working with a budget, it will finish in 2 weeks still. So better agree on a budget together and stick with it. If it finishes, it finishes na niyen. Families with only one income earner need to learn to jointly work on their monthly budget otherwise, one of the parties will find a way to be fall off the radar. The result is usually contempt. Good luck fa.

Thank you.. honestly I had this conversation with her before I increased the money to 70k. Maybe we are eating too much cause from her explanation, she was able to give account of how the money was spent and I think she spent it religiously.

Going forward, maybe we should cut down on the quantity and number of times we eat daily.

We have been eating atleast 3 times daily on heavy meals and I have started growing pot belly as a result of that.

What do you think?

The only way to answer your question is to be keeping a budget especially "expenditures".

When u know how much u spent in april, then u can have an idea of what to expect in may.

I have been doing this for years and it helps me plan.

I did when I was single, I downloaded expenditure app, that was how I found out how much I spent for feeding.

Is groceries inclusive All these perishables… like pepper, tomatoes and the rest … how often does she buy it..

Do you like to eat freshly cooked meals almost every other day? Or she cooks and store in the freezer??

Anyway both of you need to sit down and talk about it

Draw up a good time table for a month and see how far the money takes you both

Yes fresh pepper and tomatoes are inclusive but she buys them in large quantity, blend them and store in the freezer, also she cooks maybe twice in a week and store in the freezer.

1. So you were spending less than 30K in yourself on food alone every month means your wife would automagically need only the exact same amount of food to sustain her person say you used to, and she would also have no other needs outside of food? Who keeps churning this kind of folks out into the world abeg! undecided

The 70k budget is for food alone.. I give her money for other personal needs, we also have budgets for other things in the house.

Instead of staying to calculate every Kobo you give her monthly, don't you think it would be better if you speed up the process of setting up the business you intend for her?
Even if you give her 700k a month, don't be surprised if she asks for more in three weeks. Women will always be women.
Let her have something doing and you won't have any need to make these calculations again.

The plan is already in the pipeline.. but I don't see it solving the problem if the problem is overzealous spending

I got married few months ago, but before I got married, I was spending less than 30k for myself on food alone every month. As I got married, I decided I will be giving my wife money every month for food alone, I started by giving her 50k monthly but extended it to 70k cause of inflation but it seem the 70k is not even enough, it's only two weeks from the last time I gave her 70k but she just informed me this morning on our way back from church that the money has finished. I don't know if the money is actually too small for two people every month or if my wife is not prudent with money. I buy rice, garri, gas, drinking water and drinks myself and the 70k is meant for other food stuffs. I know things might be a bit expensive currently than few months ago but nevertheless, I feel 70k would be enough for two people.

So my question to nairalanders who are married, how much do you think is enough every month for food, for two people, excluding garri, rice, gas, drinking water and drinks?

Mixed reactions...happy that the soldiers stopped the task force from stealing or destroying people's wares, then indifferent about the beating.

Don't buy a car now since your business goal is to increase your profit. You won't be surprised that the car will be taking out of your profit or even the whole profit monthly.

The best thing you can do is to get a brand new delivery bike, learn how to drive it yourself and use the remaining amount to diversify into another business that can fetch additional income. There are so many businesses you can do out there that will fetch you additional income such as ICT, Agriculture, T-shirt branding, Soap making, Smoothie business and small chops business, etc.

Or you can as well partner with a logistics company to help you with the deliveries instead of buying a bike. Your clients should bear the cost of delivery.

Thank you..points noted. But I must say that bike is not ideal for the business, some clothes requires hanging(suits, dinner gown, some shirts etc) and you can't deliver them with bike. Also, I want to be able to lobby some customers from the island, I feel the addition of the car will boost the image of the company.

Well, since the car you plan to buy will also aid you're business in some ways... The you can go for it. But, make sure to buy a good car that will not turn into a money gulping venture in the future biko.

NB: I advise you hold-on, save more a buy a good car if possible a good foreign used.

Thanks....I think getting a good car is by luck. My neighbor bought a very neat tokunbo car but it has been giving him issues.

Yes I do, but moderately, especially outside my location, but it is free within my location.
