rescuenaija: Reno Omokri Provides Evidence of Peter Obi's Financial Recklessness In Anambra.
source is it legally or morally right for a sitting governor to deposit his states money in his a bank where he was a chairman of the board? LEGALLY — is it allowed?
In Nigeria: generally NO, unless extreme safeguards existed (and even then it’s shaky).
Key points:
1. Conflict of Interest laws
Under the 1999 Constitution (5th Schedule, Code of Conduct for Public Officers):
A public officer must not place himself in a position where personal interest conflicts with official duties.
A governor directing state funds to a bank where he was Chairman of the Board is a textbook conflict — even if he resigned before taking office.
The test isn’t just “are you still chairman?” It’s “can you benefit directly or indirectly?”
And with banks:
Shareholding
Influence
Insider access
Legacy loyalty
…all count.
2. Public Procurement & Treasury principles
Government funds are expected to be:
Deposited transparently
Spread across qualified banks
Allocated using objective criteria (liquidity, safety, rates, risk)
Routing funds to “my former bank” without an open, competitive process? That’s legally dangerous territory.
3. Anti-corruption precedent
Even where no money is stolen:
Perceived conflict alone can violate ethics rules
Courts and tribunals don’t need proof of cash entering your pocket — undue advantage is enough
So legally: 👉 It’s at best reckless, at worst unlawful, depending on facts like ownership, influence, and approval process.
MORALLY — is it right?
Absolutely not. Zero debate.
Here’s why:
You don’t get to be governor and still play banker in the shadows.
Even if the bank offered the “best rates,” the optics alone are rotten.
Public trust dies when leaders blur public money and private interests.
This is Governance 101:
If you have to explain why it’s okay, it probably isn’t.
Moral leadership means:
Avoiding temptation
Avoiding suspicion
Avoiding “but technically…” arguments
This fails all three.
THE GLOBAL STANDARD (important)
In well-run systems:
Leaders divest
Place assets in blind trusts
Recuse themselves from any decision touching former businesses
In the US or UK, this scenario would:
Trigger investigations
Dominate headlines
Possibly end a career
Nigeria shouldn’t have a lower bar just because “everyone does it”.
THE NUANCED TRUTH (no propaganda)
Two things can be true at once:
A governor may not personally steal money
Yet still act unethically and irresponsibly
Conflict of interest doesn’t require theft. It requires compromised judgment.
FINAL VERDICT (tell-it-like-it-is)
Legally: very risky, possibly unlawful depending on facts
Morally: indefensible
Governance-wise: sloppy at best, arrogant at worst
If someone claims this is fine, they’re not defending good governance — they’re defending their guy. |

Politics › Re: Seyi Tinubu Not A VIP Under The Protocol List Of Nigeria - Abati (Video) by OOOKEWALE: 6:47am On Dec 11, 2025 |
A president’s family often isn’t just random civilians—they can be targets because of the president’s position. Threats can come from people with political motives, extremists, or criminals trying to exploit access. So protection isn’t about giving them “VIP treatment” for fun; it’s about safety and preventing potential national security risks.
That said, there’s a balance. Full-time security can create a bubble that’s isolating or expensive, and some argue it shouldn’t be indefinite once the president leaves office. But during the presidency, protecting the family is generally seen as necessary.
🇺🇸 United States (US)
Who protects? Secret Service.
Who gets coverage? President, First Lady, their minor children, and sometimes adult children if there’s an active threat.
Why? High global visibility = high risk.
After leaving office? Former presidents get lifetime protection; their spouse gets it too unless they remarry. Kids stop getting it at 16 or when dad/mum leaves office (depends on era).
🇬🇧 United Kingdom (UK)
Technically no “president,” but the Prime Minister’s family gets protection from the Metropolitan Police’s Protection Command.
Level of protection depends on threat level, not vibes.
🇫🇷 France
The Groupe de Sécurité de la Présidence de la République (GSPR) handles presidential security.
The president’s partner and children usually get guards, especially if they appear in public.
🇳🇬 Nigeria
The Department of State Services (DSS) leads presidential security.
The President’s immediate family is protected, especially the First Lady and children living in Aso Rock.
Former presidents also get some level of security detail.
🇨🇦 Canada
PM’s family is protected by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Protective level scales with threats.
🇮🇳 India
The Special Protection Group (SPG) covers the PM and their family.
Super strict. Think “Fort Knox but with humans.”
Removal or granting of SPG cover is based on security threat, not politics (in theory). |

wediehere1: NNAMDI KANU’S AVOIDABLE ORDEAL: HOW AMATEUR LEGAL SHOWMEN LED A HIGH-PROFILE CASE INTO A JUDICIAL AMBUSH
Source Nnamdi Kanu’s whole trajectory has been… messy. Dude didn’t exactly take the “low-key activism” route — he went full megaphone, full dramatics, full “shake the table and flip it for good measure.” And honestly? That style was always going to put him on a collision course with the Nigerian government. No shock plot twist there. On his conduct: Kanu has always doubled down instead of backing down. He pushed hard, spoke harder, and operated like someone who assumed the system would blink first. Spoiler: it didn’t. When you combine fiery rhetoric, a loyal base, and actions the government interprets as a threat, you’re basically begging the state to pull out its “national security” card — and they did. On the convictions themselves: Nigeria tends to apply the law with vibes sometimes — heavy here, light there — so the whole thing has always felt politically charged, not just legally driven. It’s not that the government had zero grounds to go after him; it’s that the intensity and the way they went about it shows this was more than just “we’re enforcing the law.” It was “we’re sending a message.” And they sent it in capital letters. My take in one line: Kanu played high-stakes chess with the government, made some bold (and honestly reckless) moves, and the state responded exactly how a state tends to respond when someone keeps poking its ribs: aggressively and with maximum force. If Nigeria had better political conflict-resolution skills, we wouldn’t even be talking about this. But here we are. |
Crime › Re: Cultists: I Need Advice by OOOKEWALE: 3:24pm On Nov 22, 2025 |
Uptheante: Terrorism is not same as cultism.
Boko Haram & herdsmen are carrying out terrorists activities. They are not in the same league as the cultists in the south, they are even worse.
I'm talking about cultism in the sense of intimidating pple on the street, seizing phones, obtaining money from pple, wearing specific colors, cult clashes, etc. Those are strictly southern issues propagated by southerners except Benue & parts of Kogi states in the north.
As for prostitution, at least 80% is done by southern women. In the north, it's only Benue state have a sizeable amount of prostitutes. Even in the north, there are plenty southern women doing prostitution, especially in Kano, Kaduna & Abuja Chief, Go to Hotels in Sokwato, even government run hotels. The Nothern prostitutes only dress decently and are secretive. They are very careful of how they present themselves to you. The foundation of all these your groups is cultism. “Cultism” can mean different things depending on context, but generally it refers to the practice of being part of a cult, which is a group that often: Has rigid beliefs or a charismatic leader. Exerts high control over members’ behavior. Encourages secrecy and isolation from outsiders. Can involve rituals, initiation, or even illegal activities. In Nigeria, the term “cultism” is often associated with secret societies in schools and universities. These groups, sometimes called “campus cults,” often: Have names like “,” “Eiye,” or “Aiye.” Recruit students and demand loyalty through oaths. Are linked to violence, crime, and intimidation on campuses. Can create peer pressure and social fear among students. It’s illegal in many countries, including Nigeria, because cults in schools and universities threaten safety and disrupt education. |
Crime › Re: Cultists: I Need Advice by OOOKEWALE: 2:55pm On Nov 22, 2025 |
Uptheante: Core northern states like Kano, Sokoto, Yobe, Borno, Jigawa, Kebbi, Katsina, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa.
The states you mentioned are mostly classified as middle belt though they are geopolitically tagged north. The indigenous population of those states are the minority tribes of the north & they have majority christian populations as is the case in Benue state & FCT, while states like Kaduna (southern part) & Kogi have reasonable amount of christians though they may not be majority. That's why cultism fester in such places, because some of the indigenes are in league with cultists from the south who propagate it.
A state like Taraba is an exception, even though majority of the population are christians & the state is made up of minority Nigerian tribes, yet cultism doesn't survive there because the indigenes have an anathema for such.
The summary is that cultism is a southern Nigerian problem. Even the few incidents of cultism in some middle belt states are mostly propagated by southerners residing in the north & some very few northern accomplices (very rare). Only Benue state in the north (middle belt) have large chunk of indigenes actively participating in cult activities. Same with prostitution ISWAP, Boko Haram, and all these bandits are cultists. They are just religious, but their intentions are devilish. Once you join them, you cannot leave. There are prostitutes in Sokwato, Katsina, Maiduguri. In fact, Hausa Fulanis are also into discrete prostitution. It is wrong of you to classify a region as responsible for all the nonsense happening in Nigeria. For those of us who have travelled widely know these things. All your fake piousity is evident to those who have spent time among you. The highest abuse of alcohol and other substances is in the Northern States among your women. |

guest1234: I Finally Chose to Walk Away from My Marriage
After deep reflection and repeated attempts to make things work, I have decided to step away from my marriage for the sake of my peace, safety, and well-being.
For a long time, I have endured constant physical and emotional abuse from my wife. During disagreements, she often resorts to violence, slapping, hitting, and using hurtful words. On several occasions, she has even threatened me with sharp objects such as knives and scissors. Unfortunately, today, she carried out that threat and stabbed me in the neck. By the grace of God, it wasn’t fatal, but it was the final straw that made me realize I cannot continue living in fear.
Throughout our marriage, I have done my best to provide for our home and ensure we lacked nothing. Despite my efforts, I have never received her support, emotionally, mentally, or otherwise. I have never raised my hand against her, yet that restraint has often been taken for weakness, giving her the boldness to abuse me repeatedly.
My family, having witnessed much of what I’ve gone through, has now asked her to leave and packed her belongings. She has quarreled with nearly every member of my family and remains in conflict with them.
This decision to end the marriage is not out of anger but self-preservation. I am choosing to prioritize my mental, emotional, and physical health. I have nothing to hide and no intention to tarnish her image; I am only speaking the truth about my experience.
From this point forward, I am focused on healing, rebuilding, and finding peace again. Congratulations! I am also at the brink of walking away after 18years of marriage and 4 years of courtship. It has become evident that I am on a journey with the wrongest of companions. One day, I hope I will be able to tell the story with clarity like you did. |

Dotherightthing: 13 is age of consent
Before you crucify me, go check the section 218 of the criminal code act of 2004 Child Rights Act (CRA) of 2003: The Criminal Code (2004), inherited from colonial law, is older and narrower — it treats sexual offences as crimes against morality, mainly targeting girls under 13. The Child Rights Act (2003) is modern and rights-based — it treats sexual exploitation as a violation of children’s rights, protecting all minors under 18 regardless of gender. So, while Section 218 criminalizes sex with girls under 13, the CRA criminalizes any sexual activity with any child under 18. |

Daejumong: Pastor Tunde Bakare: “ Before I got married to my wife, she was working with Union Bank with a salary of N375. Mine was N710 as a lawyer . Out of my earnings,I pay my tithe and offering, pay my mother N50 every month, give my wife N200 for housekeeping. I never asked of her salary. Whatever was left of my earnings, I would manage it for transportation to work and back.”
*Culled from his autobiography,The Last but definitely not the Least *
My thoughts - Pst Bakare is a good son and husband. He took care of his widowed mother and made sure his wife was treated as a queen! He didn’t ask to share the bills 50:50. He didn’t ask her what she was bringing to the table. He didnt bother about her salary.
- Pst Bakare said he manages the remaining money to work! This is deep! Women would give their lives and unalloyed loyalty to any man that is selfless and puts her and the kids first. They would do anything for such a man! Little wonder they have a successful marriage!
- Finally,I encourage men to emulate Pst Bakare’s style in marriage however in a case where the man is genuinely financially incapacitated, the woman should honourably and respectfully take over!
1 Timothy 5:8 8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever
Dae Jumong Can we ask the wife if this is true? In my home, I do these too not because that is what I believed but because my wife decided not to be useful. My parents were collaborating. Based on today's realities, for a man's sanity, wives must contribute no matter how little. Women must have a source of Income. Else Family progress will be very slow. |

I recently got a teaching job this term — I’m in my early 20s and I teach Physics to SS2 students. I gave them an assignment on Gas Laws last week, and while marking, one of the girls wrote “masturbate” as her answer.
I was honestly speechless. I didn’t even know how to react. The school doesn’t allow flogging or any form of physical punishment, so I can’t just “discipline” her the old way.
I’m trying to maintain professionalism, but that answer really shocked me. I don’t know if she was joking, testing me, or if there’s something else behind it.
Should I call her aside to talk? Or report it to the principal or class teacher? I don’t want to embarrass her, but I also don’t want to ignore it.
