ogododo: Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi National Publicity Secretary African Democratic Congress
It is evident that ADC is a coalition for Northern Agenda not an Agenda to liberate Nigeria. It is a coalition of people who are after their pockets. Only a foolish southerner will think that they care for Nigeria.
Sirchiboy: Parenthood is responsibilty not an avenue to breed kids in the hope of making them your retirement plan. This is very common in African culture where parents make their kids their life time retirement. Every parents should plan for their future retirement. You can decide to support them once in a while but not a most it is your reponsiblity to cater for them in their old age.
When you grow old, i pray you will not eat your words...
Kaycee9242: Why are they always making this kind of carless mistake? Is it that they don't go through their lists thoroughly? This Was how Buhari appointed dead man into cabinet that year
the same way you made a mistake in spelling careless as carless.
Sibrah: You are going in circles trying to avoid our overall lack of competitive edge in anything. Only things the world hasnt showed interest in, like cassava and yam, are things we top production charts of and appear to be competitive in.
My response is meant for people versed in Competive Advantage, Comparative Advantage, Balance of Trade and Protectionism.
mrvitalis: Let me start by saying this... If you are not grounded in economics please read and pass
There has been this sentiment in Nigeria that import is what's killing Nigerian economy.. Lmaooo uts funny
Let me start by saying this importation has never harmed any economy, lack of export is what kills an economy
If you refuse to import what you can produce cheaper than imported once you are reducing the living standard of your people by reducing their purchasing power
As a nation because you can produce something doesn't mean you should... Say the locally made A cost ₦100 and imported once cost ₦20 by all means allow import
Some import duty we have is exactly what is killing Nigeria
Why should there be import duty on wheat? Can we ever produce wheat effectively? Never
Why us their import duty on stock fish? Can it grow here?
Why is their import duty on turkey? Do we have a turkey industry?
Don't get me wrong I understand import duty on rice, we have the land and climate and labour to compete
But import duty on steel? Lmaooo England just closed its last steel company because it was running at a loss... Ajokuta can never work or produce steel cheaper or even 150% price of imported steel... The iron concentration is too low 33% minimum requirements is 68% ... So we would need to enrich it which would increase cost
Import duty on steel have killed many industry from going global because their steel price put them at a disadvantage...
We want auto industry but we have import duty on steel and aluminum? Funny people
Why is their import duty on fabrics? We can never compete in the fabrics industry our cottons are too expensive and production is too poor... Import duty on fabrics is preventing Aba from competitng with turkey🇹🇷 and Bangladesh
Ok you want to protect fabrics industry but you won't allow cotton import? Funny people
To put it plainly To export as a nation you must import especially if you want to export finished goods and not raw materials
There is a reason the biggest export nations are also biggest import nations
We need economic policy change as a nation
Well what do I know
Your critique presents a compelling challenge to Nigeria's prevailing sentiment that imports are inherently harmful to the economy. You argue convincingly that the real economic killer isn't importation itself, but rather Nigeria's failure to develop robust export capabilities. When a country imposes import restrictions on goods it cannot competitively produce - like wheat, steel, or turkey - it simply forces citizens to pay higher prices for inferior local alternatives, effectively lowering living standards. This misguided protectionism is particularly evident in cases like Ajaokuta Steel, where Nigeria persists with import duties despite the facility's well-documented inefficiencies, thereby handicapping downstream industries that rely on affordable steel inputs.
The hypocrisy in Nigeria's trade policies becomes especially glaring in sectors like textiles. While the government imposes import duties on finished fabrics to "protect local industry," it simultaneously restricts cotton imports, driving up costs for domestic textile manufacturers in places like Aba. This contradictory approach prevents Nigerian producers from competing globally with textile powerhouses like Turkey or Bangladesh. You rightly point out that successful export nations understand a fundamental truth: to export finished goods competitively, a country often needs to import raw materials or components. The examples of China and Germany demonstrate how being import-dependent in certain sectors can actually fuel export growth in others.
Your argument suggests Nigeria needs a complete overhaul of its economic policy approach. Rather than blanket import restrictions, the government should implement targeted reforms - eliminating duties on goods Nigeria cannot produce efficiently while strategically supporting sectors with genuine competitive potential, like rice production. The current system, which often serves the interests of rent-seeking elites rather than the broader economy, reflects poor governance more than sound economic thinking. Your frustration with these policies is entirely justified, as they prioritize political expediency over the economic welfare of the nation and its citizens. The solution lies not in demonizing imports, but in developing coherent industrial strategies that recognize Nigeria's actual comparative advantages while participating smartly in global supply chains.
mrvitalis: Like I told you this us beyond your intellectual capabilities
Israel developed agricultural sector yes but they still import foods and agro product.. They didn't go about trying to farm what they don't have comparative advantage of... In fact isreal a country with less population than Lagos spent nearly 9 billion dollars importing food That's almost 4 times Nigerian food import at 2.5 billion dollars
So called isreal with developed agricultural sector imported 4 times the amount of food we nigeria a country over 20 times their population imported
U are free to google it
As for Malaysia they have almost same land suited for palm oil with less far less population than Nigeria's about 15% of our population... And you a functional human being think u have better comparative advantage than them in palm oil?
Bros leave this topic is beyond your intellectual capacity
Israel has a population of about 9.5 million, while Lagos, Nigeria's largest city, has 15–20 million residents. However, Nigeria as a whole exceeds 220 million people.
Israel spends $8–9 billion annually on food imports due to limited farmland and water scarcity. In contrast, Nigeria's food import bill is $5–10 billion per year—far higher than the claimed $2.5 billion. For instance, Nigeria spent $6.9 billion in 2021 and over $10 billion in 2023 due to rising demand and foreign exchange challenges.
Thus, while Israel's per capita food import spending is high, Nigeria's total imports are larger in absolute terms. The original comparison understated Nigeria's food import costs and inappropriately contrasted a country (Israel) with a single city (Lagos).
INEC is prosecuting the professor for announcing fake results in support of Akpabio. Results which gave Akpabio victory and a senate seat. Yet the same INEC gave Akpabio a certificate of return. How does this make sense? Why was Akpabio's election not invalidated?
Secondly, do not pity any professor or indeed any member of ASUU. They are behind every rigging of elections in Nigeria. I have personally witnessed these professors and university staff change the results of a governorship election. This happened in the head collation centre located in a federal university. They were so blatant and unafraid.
Despite the presented evidence of rigging and massive allocations of votes, the supreme court still gave the sitting governor the election. That's when I gave up on our judiciary.
So many dull people in this country. This is one of our problems. Fallacy of hasty conclusions.
hatchy: It will never be well with them and their families. The so called men of God, the foolish professor, the politicians....all of them who protested and lied against a good man because he is from the minority. They succeeded in removing him from power and installed a religious and tribal bigot, now installed their own son, a known drug lord and corrupt man. They all have lost their voices to protest while hunger and starvation ravaged the land.
As of this morning, a loaf of Bread is now 2k. Bought it 1,800 on Monday. Same bread used to be sold for 280 naira in 2013/14
Lamanii22: Hello nairalanders, a beautiful morning to you all, I am not very good in mathematics li have been wandering if my kids would be better at it. Thank you 😊
I was not good at anything until my father beat English and Maths into my head. I am a software engineer today. In Pry school, I scored 100% of available marks in Maths since I discovered the secret of self and continuous and consistent study. You dont have to be good in anything before you make your children good at it. Give me balanced diet while growing up, create enabling environment. Get them Maths Teachers. Teach me the habit of continuous and consistent study. expose them stimulating environments.
You will be surprised at how good they will be. I am a father of 4. None of my kids are below excellent in core subjects.
All they do is employ youths and pay them pittance to defend their bad governance
You will see otherwise educated youths saying after God na Tinubu
If not for hunger and deprivation, what can lead a youth who should be carrying a torch as the leaders of tomorrow to be genuflecting in sycophantic worship of an octogenarian simply because he holds power?
May God deliver Nigerian youths from the shackles of APC
Were you employed by the oppositions too to peddle this useless rant?
This is to minimise the risk of spy infiltration. The US itself uses amorous relationships to mine strategic trade, tech and defense information from rivals.
PresidObi: In the past, it was the Awolowo vs Akintola mayhem they nearly burnt down the whole of the south west, as usual, the Federal government was aiding one side, upholding Akintola and throwing Awolowo into prison in calabar.
Now its mayhem everywhere, ritual killings and herdsmen killing has taken over Ogun, Ondo and Oyo states, Osun and Ekiti have cascaded into daily violence and killings, buring of houses is a normal. While kwara has gone for good.
This is how the first coup that led to the civil war started.
Ss and se should allow these people to settle themselves.
Asteroid 2024 YR4 is a near-Earth object that has a very small chance (currently estimated at 2.3%) of impacting Earth on December 22, 2032. However, NASA experts believe that with more observations, this probability is likely to drop to zero, as has happened with many other asteroids previously flagged as potential threats BL
The asteroid is estimated to be between 130 and 300 feet (40-100 meters) in size. If it were on the smaller end, an impact would likely be similar to the Tunguska event in 1908, which flattened a large forested area in Siberia. If it’s closer to the larger estimate, the consequences would be more severe
NASA and other space agencies are continuing to monitor the asteroid, and the James Webb Space Telescope will take more precise measurements in March 2025. These observations will help scientists better determine the asteroid's orbit and whether any planetary defense actions might be necessary
Gggjhhj: You listen to trash a lot, tems is a better singer to the people in that category, tems was so good she was nominated in Rnb category, one person that could have done what tems is doing is ASA, but she lacked the recognition.
Ona too like mumu songs nai make ona see davido as demigod.

you are beating a 3 year because he cannot recount alphabets. At 6years, I could not. Now, only few can love reading like I do. I am a software engr. I started reading in Primary 3. Stop stressing the boy. I was a Nursery Teacher before I gained admission into the University. I thought a children to read and write. There was this particular girl with difficulties in reading and writing. I was frustrated with her. I later read about children with reading difficulties. I changed my approach in teaching her. I became calmer. Before I left the school, she greatly improved.
The lesson is that some children are late starters. Show them love, not pressure. Funny thing is that the child might have taken after you.
