Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has commended popular singer, David Adeleke, famously known as Davido, for campaigning and supporting the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke. Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke took the lead in the election declared inconclusive by the INEC with 254,698 votes, closely followed by APC’s candidate, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, who polled 254, 345 votes. Omokri believes that there was no better person to takeover from Adeleke if elected and must have completed his 8-year tenure than the singer. However, Davido, who has been actively campaigning for his uncle on social media, has never spoken of going into politics. Omokri tweeted, “After, by the grace of God, @IsiakaAdeleke1 has finished his 2 terms as @OfficialPDPNig Governor of Osun, I can’t think of a better person to succeed him than @iam_Davido. “He has shown himself to be a study in loyalty and sacrifice. I wish he can even be Governor now.” Continue reading - https://nigerianpolitics.ng/p/1275/davido-should-take-over-after-ademola-omokri

The Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, met on Saturday night where it resolved that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and other aspirants will go into the primary election. A former Commissioner for Training and Establishment, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, allegedly backed by APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, is Ambode’s main challenger while a former Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr Obafemi Hamzat is also in the race. A chieftain who attended the 22-member GAC meeting held at Tinubu’s residence and pleaded anonymity told NAN that the party insisted that Ambode must go through the primary with others. “We met and deliberated extensively on the governor’s second term bid and our forthcoming primary. “And after the deliberations, we resolved that the party should hold the primary to pick its candidate because that is just the right thing to do. “We are a democratic party that believes so much in internal democracy, so think we should allow everyone to sell themselves to members who will eventually determine their choices”, he said. The Chairman of the party in the state, Alhaji Tunde Balogun, also old NAN that although he was present at the meeting, he was not authorised to speak on the outcome. “Yes, the GAC met today and made some decisions, but I will not speak on the outcome because I have not been asked to do so. “Chief Abayomi Finnih would address the press on Monday on the outcome. He has been appointed and he will give you all the details”, he said. Other chieftains who attended the meeting were Sen. Abuja – A Gudu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday dissolved the 2-year-old marriage between Doyinsola Adebiyi and Adebiyi Kayode, because of the latter’s extra marital affairs with their maid. Doyinsola, a resident of Federal Housing Lugbe, Abuja, prayed the court to dissolve her 2-year-old marriage because of her husband’s extramarital affair with their maid. The 26-year-old housewife told the court that the maid confessed to aborting two pregnancies for Kayode and that “she is currently three months pregnant for my husband.” Doyinsola said that on hearing about the extra marital affairs, she became agitated and left her matrimonial home in Lagos State for Abuja. “Two months after I left the house, my husband married a 20-year-old woman and never bothered to look for me,” she said. Kayode, 51, residing in Adegbe, Lagos, who never appeared in court, wrote a letter to the court through his lawyer, authorising the court to grant his wife’s request. He added that since she abandoned her matrimonial home, the court should dissolve the marriage. The judge, Mr Abdul Bello, consequently dissolved the marriage. Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has condemned the suspension of the national carrier project, Nigeria Air by the federal government. Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on Wednesday, made the disclosure while addressing newsmen. According to Sirika, the decision to suspend the procurement of Nigeria Air, was taken at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. Duke in a reaction said the launch of the Nigeria Air was from the beginning against the advice of competent experts. He questioned the federal government to state the penalties and fate of $55 million of taxpayers money purportedly spent on the airline. Duke on his Twitter page wrote: “FG suspends Nigeria Air Project: This was ill-conceived and against the advice of several competent experts. “What is the fate of about $55 million of taxpayers money purportedly spent on the airline? Are there penalties stipulated in the contracts? Buharinomics at its worst.” Readmore - https://nigerianpolitics.ng/p/901/donald-duke-buhari-govt-at-its-worst

The Samuel Ortom-led Government of Benue State has given reasons it would not be exchanging words with a governorship aspirant in the State, Terhemen Tarzoor. Tarzoor had in a recent interview said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was going to lose the 2019 governorship election in the state if it allows Governor Samuel Ortom to contest on its platform. DAILY POST newspaper on Monday morning, spoke with Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, Terver Akase to get his reaction on Tarzoor’s position and the verbal attack on Governor Samuel Ortom yesterday. Akase said Ortom and Tarzoor were still brother, adding that it would not be right for the Governor to stop his brother from getting favour from the “Miyetti Allah party.” The governor’s CPS said, “We will not dignify him with a response. “That statement he made has already won an ‘exalted’ place for him in the Miyetti Allah party, and we don’t want to deprive him of the ‘honour’. “You know in the Miyetti Allah party, there is a keen contest on who can best impress the feudal lords in Abuja, and there is a reward system for this. The man who attacks Governor Ortom most is heavily appreciated and rewarded. “So as a new entrant, our brother, the prince has the burden to make an instant statement to announce his arrival or lose out completely. Now that he has attacked Governor Ortom so, ‘impressively’, he will move up the reckoning ladder in the party and receive the commensurate reward. We wish him luck.” Read more - https://nigerianpolitics.ng/p/805/why-we-can-t-respond-to-terhemen-tarzoor-gov-ortom

The police in Taraba State on Tuesday said they shut the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state to prevent further breakdown of law and order. The Commissioner of Police in the state, David Akinremi, told Punch in Jalingo, the state capital that the command took the decision following weekend’s violent clash between factional groups of the ruling party. He said, “You are aware of the violent clash between the supporters of El-Suldi who was sworn in Abuja as the State Chairman of the party and the other faction who called themselves authentic Exco of the party. “El-Suldi, who was sworn in Abuja, came in last Friday and attempted to take over the secretariat, and of course there was resistance from the other faction. “Hoodlums then hijacked the situation and caused a breach of peace. So, to avoid a repeat of that, we have to seal the place,” he said. Read more - https://nigerianpolitics.ng/p/804/why-we-shutdown-apc-secretariat-police

The Chief Judge of Enugu State, Hon. Justice Priscilla Ngozi Emehelu has commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his unrelenting efforts and unreserved commitment towards the creation and sustenance of a conducive environment for the effective administration and dispensation of justice in the state. Justice Emehelu, who spoke during the inauguration and formal handover of the twenty five 22KVA sound-proof generators procured by the Enugu State government for use at the residences of the Honourable Judges of the state, added that Gov. Ugwuanyi has achieved tremendous feats in the provision of suitable infrastructure and essential tools and equipment for the State Judiciary. Represented by the Chief Registrar, Enugu State Judiciary, Mrs. Martha Aroh-Onuoha, the Chief Judge also applauded the governor for the massive construction of Magistrate Courts in the 17 Local Government Areas of the state as well as High Court complexes and a number of open Registries in the Judicial Divisions in the state. Hon. Justice Emehelu disclosed that many projects are ongoing in the State Judiciary since the inception of Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration, maintaining that the third arm of government has not had it so good before. “We have never experienced this since the coming into power of civilian government. Since 1999, Enugu State Judiciary had been side-tracked and we had no infrastructure and many other things. “Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi has shown us a new phase and we are now breathing fresh air. We want to thank him and reassure him that the Judges of Enugu State would continue to do their very best to make Enugu State proud”, she assured. Presenting the generators, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who was also represented by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Miletus Eze, reiterated his administration’s commitment “to do whatever is necessary to ensure that the Judiciary in Enugu State is suitably equipped and empowered to deliver its mandate as an independent arm of government”. According to him, “this is the only way to enhance the dignity, efficiency, productivity and safety of our courts and also increase the confidence of all court users”. South Africa’s Constitutional Court decriminalised the private use of marijuana on Tuesday. The ruling came after a provincial high court in 2017 found out that the use of cannabis in private space should be allowed because laws against it were inconsistent with the country’s constitution. The state appealed to the Constitutional Court, which upheld the high court’s findings. “It will not be a criminal offence for an adult person to use or be in possession of cannabis in private space,’’ Judge Raymond Zondo said in handing down the judgement. https://nigerianpolitics.ng/p/679/private-use-of-marijuana-legalised-in-south-africa

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Douye Diri has hinted that only the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will determine President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term. Diri stressed that Buhari’s second term ambition will only succeed if PDP does not put its house in order with regards to the choice of a presidential candidate. Addressing journalists after submitting his expression of interest form for the Bayelsa Central Senatorial seat, Diri said if the “PDP does not lay its bed well ahead of the 2019 polls,” Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC, may realize their dream of a second term. Diri, who is currently the member representing Kolokuma/Opokuma/Yenagoa Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State, said, “2019 presents the brightest of chances to the PDP. But I feel sad that presidential candidates are coming in their 20s. If we don’t put our bed well, the APC might win. The mood of the country is high. “I believe that there should be a caucus that will work to stop more people and ensure that those already with the party are screened to three formidable one for a formidable force to emerge. “APC has worked themselves into a corner that the people are seeking for an alternative government. They have shown that they lack capacity to take the country out of the doldrums. Did you see President Obama of United States blame former President Bush for past mistakes? Obama rolled up his sleeve for work. “But in Nigeria, the APC embarked on blame game without capacity for work. Nigerians are sick and tired of the APC government.with their excuses and deleting of the country. They started de-maketing Nigeria by saying everyone is corrupt except them that are acclaimed saints. This led to the recession we are experiencing because of their lack of understanding of economic matters.” Source - https://nigerianpolitics.ng/p/672/come-2019-how-pdp-may-allow-apc-to-win-presidential-election

Bafarawa stated this while appearing on RoadMap 2019, a programme on Channels Television.
