Business / Re: MTN Nigeria Reports ₦‎575.69 Billion Pre-Tax Loss In First Quarter Of 2024 by Origin(f): 4:49pm On Apr 30
More analysis is required.

For such a business did it have any additional capital investments in the period

Why did it have such high impact fx losses. On what ?

Do they use a lot of expatriate employees. What are their major OPEX spend...

Businesses can make losses not only from macro economic variables but also from poor decision making. ( I believe that particular company has the highest paid top officer in Nigeria, you do the maths)
Politics / Re: Adebayo Adelabu: Accept Electricity Tariff Hike Or Face Total Blackout by Origin(f): 4:41pm On Apr 30
Come at me with facts and figures let us reason together.

Private local GenCos exists using CNG to generate electricity and their cost of production is not that high. We have access to wind turbines (for the shores) which is not being exploited. How much do we generate power. How much is it sold to DisCos
and what is the margin....

Companies cannot keep making costly/non economic decisions just because they are a monopoly or a public enterprise.

It is privatised but with no competition.....let private investors into that industry and let us see the outcome.
Politics / Re: Peter Obi Vehemently Condemns Lagos-Calabar Highway As A Misplaced Priority by Origin(f): 4:28pm On Apr 30
No infrastructure is misplaced but not mitigating losses or at least pursuing a win win outcome with the affected land/ business owners......

That is investment and future taxes down the drain and investors ( future and foreign) may read into it.
Education / Re: Outcome Of 2024 Utme Results, Who Is To Be Blamed? Parents, Teacher Or Students? by Origin(f): 4:25pm On Apr 30
In mass failure you will need to query the common denominator. ..

The exam questions were probably not based on expected curriculum.....

A levels is different from O levels.
Politics / Re: How Yahaya Bello Allegedly Paid His Children's School Fees Of $845,000 by Origin(f): 8:35am On Apr 26
One thing about other people's money (OPM) is that people spend it stupidly......

We see this in business in the mismanagement of shareholder's funds, in finance in the mismanagement of loans and in public servants in the mismanagement of public funds.

It's not today but it can be embarrassing to see learned very religious people show their true colors over OPM.

Politics / Re: 95 Million Nigerians Need To Register For NIN, Says NIMC by Origin(f): 3:23pm On Apr 16
I am affected so I will speak out.

It is embarrassing the number of resources available to cater to a 100 million Nigerians.

For NIN, driver's license, international passport. How much is a laptop, camera and fingerprint machine that we continue to have long queues that wastes time and money every single day.

The government should please wise up and outsource to business center.

The NIN has a single customer care number that is NEVER reachable. Try it yourself. I ve spent hours trying to get feedback on issues I am told can only be resolved by this avenue.

Tried emails too no response for weeks....

Then one human being will now boast that he/she was the head of a parastatal for four to eight years. What were your accomplishments?
Education / Re: Student Captured Berating Teacher In Viral Video by Origin(f): 3:15pm On Apr 16
Overzealous parents and people pleasing owners of school are the cause of this.

Of course his parents are rich ( or better still controlled by their sense of richness)...

I wouldn't dare, my parents would still beat me. Worse if there is video evidence. That means they will play it and beat me everyday.

A teacher is an instituted authority, and should have given adequate punishment eg wash the surroundings and other forms of serious exercise.

I know there are still good schools that would suspend that kid no matter what.

Why would you lend our so much without collateral??

All the past and present executives should be fined.

By the way all banks do this. They keep approving unrealistic budgets and earn unjustified bonuses. The CBN has not fulfilled its oversight function.

The government should ask around. The parents might not live far away. Who knows who dumped that baby. It looks several weeks old with the healed belly button....

Someone knows that child and it's mother

Never ever take this type of statistics seriously....

No indepth analysis, no underlying data, no comparative data, no industry analysis, what metrics where used, data sources.....

Which service sector specifically? Provide drill down numbers...

What was the effect of the mass exodus from Nigeria (Japa) on that sector ?
Politics / Re: Tinubu: We Will Raise $10 Billion To Stabilise Naira, Boost FX Liquidity by Origin(f): 10:25pm On Feb 20
Short term fix.

As long as everyone continues to use importer rather than local goods. The demand for fx will always stack higher than the naira....

From your gate to your living room to your bedroom everyone uses 90% imported in their homes. Even when local is available and cheaper. We all still opt for these imported items.......

We all know the solution but the fruit of corruption is to steal as to use all that glitters that is not gold....

Buy local to grow the Naira.

And it is still the same corruption that has our fx rising because our main trade partner is China and we should be concerned about the yen but our loans and corruption is in dollars.

Business / Re: ‘From 5k To 13k’ : How Dollar Rate To Naira Affected Cement Prices In Nigeria by Origin(f): 10:43pm On Feb 17
Just stop buying....

Prices are a function of demand and supply. Stop buying and watch the prices fall to a realistic level.....

Prices will rise is a scare tactic that will keep deman up. Just stop buying .

There is no tangible justification for cement sugar etc to be that high. Or why a Nigerian used vehicle will be 3x it's price cos of fx.

Or a marketer that has old goods or stock should increase price due to fx and yes people have lots of old stock in warehouse but want to sell at inflated prices.

Business / Re: Why Exactly Is The Cement Price Going Up This Way? by Origin(f): 6:52pm On Feb 17
Because it's a monopolistic market.....

No incentive to manage cost or even bargain competitive prices.

Nigerians should BOYCOTT all non essentials goods for now. That is the only solution.
Politics / Re: FG Summons Dangote, BUA Over Rising Cost Of Cement by Origin(f): 6:49pm On Feb 17
There is no justification in the rise of many goods and services....

Using local materials should not result in high prices from fx. Even if some components of materials are imported .. ..

And this is where we see the true CEOs/MDs. Who always think they are the best because everything goes well. Not all goods can benefit from an increase in prices.....

What is your strategy or will you just blame it on fx. Banks MD have not been able to show any strategy to manage the losses from the floating fx. With all their huge salaries, it's the shareholders bearing the losses

Nigerians should also understand their power and BOYCOTT all goods that are non essential for now.

THE CUSTOMER IS STILL KING. THE POPULACE IS STILL KING.

Which seems like quid pro quo already......

They even cheat on this girls all in the name of where will she go. But the only thing they will say is na me train am. Did u get any benefit in return oga
Politics / Re: DSS Quizzes Sheikh Auwal Shariff For Criticizing Tinubu Over Hardship by Origin(f): 9:52am On Feb 13
That was a ? thing to do. You have not sat with your team, you don't have a plan at hand to reduce the hardship that will result from the removal and you just make pronouncements like that??

You don't know how much you have in the Treasury ( in your own purse ) and yet the first thing you do is buy brand new cars for the legislative and they in turn approve a budget that has no details......

Till now we don't know the plan all we see is rampant travelling.....Does he or his team understand the economy?

But they understand how to enjoy their own good life....

Not sure they pay WHT or VAT on said invoices. And practically everyone uses their service/ product.
Politics / Re: CAC Hides INTELS Ownership, Frustrates Request For Disclosure by Origin(f): 9:00pm On Feb 06
Information that should be easily accessible online.

Food for thought:

Let the FiRS and CAC link systems - so as to file financial returns once. And let the systems be searchable and updatable. Meaning that financial records of decades can be viewed compared and easily updated.

Industry wide data and statistics. Also procurement details must be separately disclosed. This would aid costing of private and public projects.

The UN should focus on addressing the poverty which has killed more people than the death penalty..

Countries that have truly enforced the death penalty have the least crime...

High cost of living , no jobs, low staff welfare and emoluments, and a very clueless government that has no money but bought cars first and paid bonuses as their first accomplishment.

Who was the policeman in charge of this investigation....

Did the police debrief the children when they returned to their family....

Where are forensics details of this crime ( sophistication of guns/ bullets in use, familiarity with the area etc.

It is the police that should have been interviewed to see the adequacy of our security forces. It's not only prayers we need but adequate technology and personnel to combat insecurity.

believing that the people as many as they are , are easily manipulated and so not deserve a good economy....

The assurance that the PEOPLE CAN AND WILL DO NOTHING. THAT IS THE NIGERIAN SITUATION TODAY.

If the discovery is true........

When will you understand that this has nothing to do with Fulani herdsmen. It's obvious that some interests are determined to chase out and kill villagers just to get at these mineral resources.

Logic states that whoever takes over the land did the killings. Whether it is a company , another group of people or even the government. Those INTEREST will become obvious at the end.

Most African parents/ In laws et al might think you are disrespectful by rejecting their gift.

This is not the western world. You should have collected the bread no matter how local or little it looks. Cheers.
