PoliticsRe: SCANDALOUS: Outrage In Nigeria As Government Brands National ID Card With Master by oroagba: 10:58am On Sep 01, 2014
Magicdon: pls i need to learn, wat do you mean by prepaid n how can one use it to withdtaw from atm
A prepaid card is one which is not linked to any personal bank account. Instead, money is loaded on the card and only the amount of money loaded on the card is available for transactions. The good thing about such cards is that if it becomes compromised in anyway, either through someone stealing your PIN or other authentication token, only what you have on the card is at risk and not all the money in your bank account.

GT Bank has such cards and I'm sure some other banks will have too.

arresa: Of what relevance is Mastarcard to our National ID? If asked by the US to submit your National data to the NSA, they'll hand it over willingly without even consulting you. It's called National security..

Some stuff you just don't trade off no matter what?

Firstbank is a credible Nigerian bank that functions under our own laws and they have more than enough capacity to process payments and financial transactions so what's your point
MasterCard will only have just the info your bank has always been giving them and not identity related info like parent's data, biometrics etc. Pls don't dwell on speculations.
If you look at the back of a First bank debit or credit card, you are likely to see the same MasterCard logo. I'm quite sure First bank will easily admit to you that what they do is different from what MasterCard does.
There is no need to be obstinately against something even when you don't have full facts

arresa: According to the FG, their own agency is compiling the biometrics and they are going to manage the database, so exactly what do you need MasterCard for?

And if it's about payment, we have banks in Nigeria to handle that. Osun teamed up with Firstbank and Charms PLS Biometrics to set up their biometrics ID cards so again, exactly what's mastarcard doing in the mix?
MasterCard is a provider of international payment solutions, and I'm told that in due course, VISA and our own Verve will participate. The First Bank you mentioned still ride on the backs of the likes of MasterCard, I'm sure I know.

SirShymex: Don't mind these pricks.

It's more or less like slavery - everything about it is just not right.

Why can't they just issue an ID card without all the extras?
The use of the card for payment is OPTIONAL. The "extras" as u call it is probably to ensure that the card is to a large extent future proof so that people like you won't again blame govt of not planning ahead

AZeD1: Dude there is no way i am linking my bank account to the National Id card
The payment part of the card is prepaid and not linked to your bank account. Seek information, ask questions before drawing conclusions.

AZeD1: Dude you are the 'olodo' here. How do you get accurate count when you are only registering from 16 and above?
I can see that you are arguing from a position of ignorance and assumption. According to NIMC website, everybody can register and get a National Identification Number, but only those aged 16 and above will get the card.

Also, only if u use the card for financial transaction will payment data be shared with the payment processing company. MasterCard does not have access to personal or biometric data, only to information your bank has.

We should stop criticizing just for the sake of playing to the gallery. Seek information before drawing conclusions.

As for me, I look forward to getting my card.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Unemployed Disabled Graduates: What Is The Way Forward? by oroagba: 3:41pm On Oct 23, 2013
Mr Aboki: I think people are missing the keypoints here;

1. How many disabled (or to be Politically correct 'Physically Challenged' persons) have you seen working in a Bank?!

2. How many companies like Shell, Total, Mobil, Schlumberger, Conoil, Conoco Phillips, OandO, e.t.c employ PC peoples?!

3. In the Civil Service, how many are there?!

The truth is that the Nigerian Work environment is friendly to disabled peoples at all... E.g: Have you ever wondered how a person on a Wheelchair enters into our Nigerian Banks?!
You're quite correct. The work and even school/academic environments especially in Nigeria are not friendly towards the physically challenged. Even if a company or organization is willing to employ, coping with the physical barriers (stairs, gutters. slippery floors, narrow doors etc) may make it difficult for the person to perform well. I used to have a running battle with security men and doors in Intercontinental Bank to the extent that I had to allow my accounts there to go dormant and move transactions to friendlier banks.

It takes a lot of determination, fearlessness and stubbornness for a physically challenged person in Nigeria to have a semblance of "normal" life. Giving up is not an option except you want life to pass you by, keep trying.
FamilyRe: Proud Your Child Can't Speak Your Native Tongue? by oroagba: 5:32am On Oct 11, 2013
A-ZeD:
May be if we do away with all these Nigerian languages, Nigerians would learn to vote for credible candidates and not someone who speaks his language.

PS: I don't speak my parents language because i haven't found any use for it. When i find a compelling reason, i'd learn it.
O ma se o (what a pity). However, can you throw more light on how language affects voting?

TravelRe: 7 Annoying Things Nigerians Do On Airplanes by oroagba: 4:43am On Mar 30, 2013
@op All these things are not peculiar to Nigerians alone. When you travel abroad, you get to know that a human being is a human being irrespective of race, color or nationality. Try not to be overly judgemental about other people because we can't all behave or respond to situations in the same way.

Above all accept and embrace the human diversity.

OvieE: How can u ask a useless question. If Nigeria with two couldn't do anything, what are dose people in wheelchair will do. No offense to the wheelchair bound people.
You should check performance records of Nigeria at the Paralympics games, it is far better than what people with "two" can ever DREAM to achieve. Ovie, it is not good to expose your level of intelligence and maturity in a public forum like this... now you have exposed your secret!

Christianity EtcRe: Nothing Wrong With Alcohol, Cigarette – Pastor Chris Oyakhilome? <<Rumor?>> by oroagba: 3:23am On Apr 17, 2012
1. I don't know if Pastor Chris actually said as reported. There is no source qouted.
2. Drinking is not a sin. As has been repeated over and over here, Jesus turned water into wine. If drinking wine is a sin the he wouldn't have done that. The drinking (just like any other thing) becomes a problem and sin when done in excess. Gluttony is a sin, eating moderately is not. The bible warned about drunkenness, so if you know you cannot habndle alcohol, don't drink.
3. Some Christians will assume "Heaven helps does who help themselves" is taken from the bible. But its not, rather its simply a popular saying. Many Christians confuse urban legends and popular beliefs to be biblical. We need to understand that there are various religious bodies and authorities out there even in ancient times, who have been twisting the truth and brainwashing the majority all in a bid to foster their personal philosophy and beliefs as divine truths. The Berean church was praised because they didn't swallow things without finding out the truth by themselves.
4. The only thing is that the message could've been delivered better. Some Christians are weak and tend to easily slip into excesses. So because of such people, it is perhaps better to say " Do not drink". Its better for them to be a teetotaler but make heaven. It is better to scare a young teenager that "if you have sex you will get pregnant" and thus protect her future withh that health fear than to give room for immorality because of the availability of contraceptives.

Paul warned that is it wrong for you to practice something that though is not a sin, but it can lead the weak to sin - I Cor 8:11 says "So this weak brother or sister--someone Christ died for--is lost because of your better understanding." (Easy to Read version)
PhonesVisafone Internet Settings - What Visafone Customer Care Is Hiding by oroagba(op): 10:45am On Mar 31, 2012
I got visafone mobile internet (not wap) activated on my HISENSE phone a few days ago and this morning, I called their customer care line for data services (400) to get tge settings so that I can configure my laptop. After being kept waiting for a long time listening to some lousy music, the guy who came on at the other end could only tell me to take the phone and laptop all the way to visafone office for configuration. I asked him thrice, because I just couldn't believe what I was hearing. I even told him that I am IT savvy and can do it, still he refused. I wonder if that is a company policy.

I connected my MTN modem and used the remaining data access to google for the visafone internet settings, the best site was a Nairaland forum page and I got this information which was just what I needed to get the laptop configured and online. https://www.nairaland.com/222008/visafone-internet-configuration-help
