Hello guys, I had exactly this same problem last week. My mechanic picked up my car for drive shaft replacement and after the change things were great until a few minutes later. Cut a long story short, my 2008 highlander gear box was messed up, it will slip in and out of gear at will. After reading most of the post here I thought I would have to buy a new gearbox but luckily I ran into a guy (mechanic) who asked me to bring the car and that for 30k, he will fix the problem. He was so confident that he told me not to pay any advance, full payment when he's done. Picked up my car the next day and the genius of a guy had fixed it. Now my highlander drives like new without having to buy a new gearbox.
