The coming APC big campaign for the LG poll
|
…seeks 5-year ban for PDP, others over boycott. With less than four days to the local council polls in Edo State, civil society organisations that are in the state to assess the readiness of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) for the polls, the dispositions of the electorates and political parties towards the elections and other variables crucial to a hitch-free exercise, have scored EDSIEC high on its preparedness. Addressing journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital on Tuesday, Team Leader, Forum of Civil Society Organisation in Nigeria, Comrade Fidelis Nweke, said that after his team’s pre-election observation exercise, they “observed that the Edo State government has provided the necessary logistics for EDSIEC to organise and conduct credible elections in the state without the state government’s interference.” Nweke said his team “gathered that some political parties will not participate in this Saturday, 3rd March, 2018 Local Government Election in Edo State.” He maintained that “boycott of elections is not healthy for our democracy,” and recommended “that such political parties should be sanctioned and stopped from participating in any elections for a period of five (5) years.” He explained that in the course of their work, “we met with various stakeholders in the electoral process, including Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), the political parties, security agencies and the electorates. This was aimed at determining the level of preparedness of all the relevant stakeholders, as part of the critical component of election observation in the state.” Nweke said they observed that EDSIEC is committed to conducting free, fair and credible elections in the state, by providing a level playing ground for all political parties in the state to participate in the elections. “Our team observed the distribution of electoral materials by EDSIEC officials to various local government areas of the state; we observed that the electorates in Edo State are ready and willing to come out en-mass on Saturday, March 3, 2018, to exercise their franchise and also vote for candidates of their choice; EDSIEC accredited some reputable Civil Society Organisations and journalists to observe the election and to report accordingly without being biased.” The team commended the state government and the governor for what they described as “taking the bull by the horn to conduct a local government election when some state governors are complaining of poor allocation of funds from the federal government,” and described Governor Obaseki as a “true democrat for ending the use of caretaker chairmen in the state and making sure that democratically local government chairmen and councillors are elected in the state come March 3, 2018.” They further recommended that the electoral umpire in conjunction with civil society organisations engage in massive voter education and sensitisation before the next election and advised the Edo State government to declare Friday, March 2, 2018, as public holiday to enable civil servants and other stakeholders travel back to their communities and wards to exercise their rights. The Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has urged members of the political class, thought leaders, members of civil society and other development actors to close ranks and engender a world of equal socio-economic opportunities. He gave the charge in commemoration of the World Day for Social Justice, today, marked on February 21, each year. According to the governor, “the rising tension in parts of the world is due to perceived and actual imbalance in the distribution of social, economic and even political opportunities fueled by man-made barriers such as class, race or gender.” He called for reforms in governance to inspire the feeling of global brotherhood for peaceful co-existence despite socio-cultural differences and remove barriers to equal participation in social, economic and cultural activities. Obaseki noted that globalisation has set the stage for integration and urged countries that are yet to open up their systems, to up their game and latch onto the global playing field for their share of the gains associated with globalisation. He decried bad leadership that creates unnecessary and unsustainable social strata, protectionist policies on trade and social transactions which are antithetical to the concept of globalisation and the socio-economic integration of nations. He said it was high time nations removed policies hostile to the spirit of globalisation to fast-track the interconnection of countries of the world through trade and cultural exchange. “For the first time in human history, we have a common marketplace of ideas, goods and services, driven by Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Several opportunities abound in this marketplace and everyone must key into it with their peculiar products, ideas and services,” Obaseki said. According to the United Nation: “Social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and among nations. The global body said it “upholds the principles of social justice when it promotes gender equality or the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants. We advance social justice when we remove barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability.” It adds that “the pursuit of social justice for all is at the core of our global mission to promote development and human dignity. The adoption by the International Labour Organisation of the Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalisation is just one recent example of the UN system’s commitment to social justice. The Declaration focuses on guaranteeing fair outcomes for all through employment, social protection, social dialogue, and fundamental principles and rights at work.” On this year’s theme: “Workers on the Move: the Quest for Social Justice” Obaseki urged world leaders to accord economic migrants the appropriate human dignity by providing them with opportunities to enhance their socio-economic well-being. The UN said most migration today is linked directly or indirectly to the search for decent work opportunities. Even if employment is not the primary driver, it usually features in the migration process at some point.

Good plan Mr. Governor! |
Behind every good thing, there is the fear of God. Without the fear of God, Obaseki would have been doing any how and living any how, hence will not be performing. Lets go for this spiritual rebirth in Edo, APC and PDP alike. It will do us great good. |

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie Esq., has said that Edo State Government will not relent in the fight against human trafficking and illegal migration so that the state can optimally harness its human resources, especially youths, for development. Ogie reiterated the state government's resolve during a chat with journalists in Benin City, Edo State capital. “The Godwin Obaseki-led administration will sustain the campaign against human trafficking. This is a continuous effort to rescue our people from the scourge,” Ogie said. He noted that the first step the state government took in the fight against human trafficking was to acknowledge the existence of the problem and not pretend about the gravity of the issue in Edo State. “We came out strong to say that this is a problem affecting our people and we want to be in the vanguard to lead the fight against human trafficking and illegal migration, " he said. According to him, “In the past six months, Edo State Government has made serious efforts in the fight against human trafficking. We were able to bring the issue not only to the front burner but also engaged international partners.” Ogie said that the state government will continue to assist her indigenes who are victims of human trafficking and assist them to resettle to normal life. He noted, “Our people should know that nothing is wrong with migration. The state government is not against migration but illegal migration and human trafficking through which Edo people are being sold and their organs harvested. “Parents should be aware and begin to ask certain questions before they allow their children to travel abroad. They should ask what their children are going to do abroad.” He added, “It is a good thing that majority of Edo people are with Governor Godwin Obaseki in the fight against human trafficking." |
Edo State is actually getting the humility in service they bargained with Governor Obaseki. It remains the best choice so far. My condolences to you Ruth, your two kids, and the your entire family. Rest in Peace David |

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has called for closer monitoring of children’s online engagements by parents and for circumspect use of social media by all, to avoid incidence of internet fraud, stalking and other ills that have trailed the emergence of new media technologies. Governor Obaseki made this call on the occasion of the commemoration of the 2018 Safer Internet Day marked by the joint Insafe-INHOPE network, with the support of the European Commission, and spearheaded by internet advocacy groups in Europe and across the world. According to Obaseki, “We cannot wish away the Internet, its gains and woes. That the world is melding into a global village brings up opportunities and challenges that throw up fresh ideas and threats alike. In all of these, it is important for anyone aiming to use the internet to be circumspect of the downside of the technology. “That is why, on this day, I call on parents to monitor children’s internet engagement to safeguard them from the ills in the system. This does not remove from the many benefits that exist on the internet and the opportunity for self-development.” He said that this year’s theme for the Safer Internet Day “Create, connect and share respect: a better internet starts with you,” speaks to the need for anyone transacting business or sharing memorable moments with friends and family on the Internet to exercise caution in the exchange to avoid falling prey to elements with ulterior motives. Noting that the Internet has created opportunity for creativity and even jobs, he cautioned on “abuse of social media by younger persons and urged them to build themselves intellectually. They can also build their capacity by using the resources on the internet as well as sustain constructive engagements with their friends and colleagues.” The Safer Internet Day is marked every February 6, 2018. This year’s celebration is a call to action for every stakeholder to play their part in creating a better internet for everyone, in particular the youngest users out there. Organised by the joint Insafe-INHOPE network, it is an invitation for everyone to join in and engage with others in a respectful way in order to ensure a better digital experience.

From the look of it Ogami. he has more grasp of the subject matter more than you do. At least he he explained his point, and I agree. Indeed, its all about industrialization and job creation! |
