Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation, has grappled with the persistent issue of voter apathy for decades. This phenomenon, characterized by low voter turnout and disengagement from the electoral process, poses a significant threat to the country's democratic fabric. As the September 21, 2024, Edo State gubernatorial election approaches, it is crucial to examine the causes and consequences of voter apathy and emphasize the importance of civic participation. Instances of Voter Apathy in Nigeria 1. 2019 General Elections: The national voter turnout was a mere 35.66%, a decline from 43.65% in 2015. 2. 2023 Presidential Election: Despite having 93.4 million registered voters, only about 29% participated in the election. 3. 2022 Osun State Gubernatorial Election: The election saw a turnout of just 42.16% of registered voters. 4. 2021 Anambra State Gubernatorial Election: Only 10% of registered voters participated in the election. These examples highlight a troubling trend of disengagement from the democratic process, which can lead to the election of leaders who may not truly represent the will of the majority. The Upcoming Edo State Election As Edo State prepares for its gubernatorial election on September 21, 2024, it is imperative for citizens to break the cycle of voter apathy. The election presents an opportunity for the people of Edo to shape their future by selecting a leader based on competence, character, and integrity rather than shallow-mindedness, bigotry, or incompetence. One candidate who exemplifies the positive traits of competence, character, and integrity is Asue Ighodalo. His track record and vision for Edo State align with the qualities necessary for effective leadership and governance. Presented by Edo Youth Movement. https://edoyouthmovement.com

The federal government of Nigeria has directed schools nationwide to resume on January 18th,2021.The directive comes as a result of the second wave of covid-19.It should be a thing of joy especially for students of higher institutions who has barely spent a year at home but the what is worrisome is how prepared is government ready to stop or control the spread of the dreaded disease from such huge population of students? We are told that the second wave will be more deadly considering a new variant.Nigeria at present lacks the capacity to undertake a comprehensive covid-19 test on majority of its citizens and the question begging for answer is how can the government effectively carry out test on all its students of higher institutions of learning before resumption? How will social distancing and compulsory wearing of face masks be effected especially in a university environment? Are there going to be covid-19 monitoring team on campus? There is a need for answers on all these question inorder not to further increase the figures of covid-19 casualty. In a nation like Nigeria e-learning is needed than never before to cope in a covid-19 period.

History was made this afternoon in Edo State when the leaders of ENDSARS protest engaged Mr. Godwin Obaseki in a face to face meeting, first of it’s kind since the crisis broke out about two weeks ago. The meeting which was attended by enlarged youth interest groups had in attendance, representatives of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Youth wing of Christian Association of Nigeria, National Councils of Muslim Youth, National Association of Nigerian Students, various Civil Society Groups and organised professional bodies. The meeting held at the government House banquet hall amidst convivial atmosphere. Mr. Obaseki acceded to the demand of the ENDSARS protesters and promised to activate the processes for restitution. In return, the groups agreed to work with government to send out the hoodlums that have hijacked the peaceful process out of the streets of Edo State. Edo State instantly relaxed the curfew to meet one of the demands of the group. Details later… Post Views: |

Nor be people help am? You have got to show gratitude. It is called the attitude of gratitude. The south-south were united as a family and stood with him. Oyo and Sokoto states PDP governors stood with him. Everybody knows the governor is a trailblaizer so his second tenure is triple of what he did in his first tenure. 55 megawatts ossiomo gas power has been completed and to be expanded to 550 megawatts in the next 3 years, refinary almost completed, seaport on course, industrial park on course, edo innovation technology university in partnership with malaysia recently signed, automobile park yet to take off, generation of 3 megawatts power from dam yet to take off and lots of projects either at infancy or advanced stage so Edos know who they voted and who is competent to do the job. Even Adams Oshiomhole knows having attributed his success in office to obaseki who worked for him in 7 and half years as chairman of economy council. Tinubu knows the stuff obaseki is made of having worked for Tinubu when Tinubu was governor. Dangote knows who Obaseki is made of having worked as vice president in dangote financial team. Tinubu and Oshiomhole are gready set of people that place personal interest above competence. If you have somebody like Obaseki in Lagos,Lagosians will stone Tinubu because their eyes will be opened to see that Lagos can do more with its huge economic resources. |

Nice one Mr governor. You do not dine with your enemies on the same table. This is what Ambode failed to do. Nobody must underate the powers of a governor. In the case of Ambode he was loyal to a fault and too slow to realize he was in the midst of enemies. Even in religious warfare if you don't stop them they will stop you. |
