The Federal Fire Service Comptroller-General, Olusegun Okebiorun, has advised Nigerians to learn from past experiences and avoid scooping spilt petrol.

Okebiorun, who gave the advice while interacting with journalists in Abuja on Friday, said such practise posed great danger to life.

The comptroller-general cited the recent loss of many lives in Rivers, where people gathered to scoop petrol from a fallen tanker which later burst into flames.

He said the incident should serve as a warning to people to always avoid those things that pose threats to life and property.

"They should avoid the temptation to scoop fuel from a tanker that has had an accident, as the product is highly flammable and capable of causing disaster," he said.
