Four persons were feared dead, including a pregnant woman hit by stray bullet, yesterday and many others reportedly injured during a protest between members of the National Union of Butchers (NUB) at the popular Bodija Market in Ibadan, Oyo State, and security operatives on the relocation order issued to the butchers by the state government. .

Also, a police station inside the market was razed by the protesters. Five vehicles parked inside the police station were burnt while three others outside the premises were vandalised. .

The state government immediately ordered an immediate closure of the market until further notice. Trouble started when butchers allegedly confronted the policemen deployed to enforce a court order for sealing off the Bodija abattoir. .

This led to the mayhem, which grounded business activities in the market. The government, having completed a modern abattoir at Amosun village, had ordered the butchers in the capital city to relocate to the new facility. .

It also withdrew the licence of existing abattoirs in Ibadan. The refusal of some of the butchers to comply with the directive propelled the government to secure a court injunction sealing off the Bodija, Aleshinloye and Sango abattoirs. .

But butchers at the Bodija abattoir were said to have ignored the court order and continued their activities. Also, the state government yesterday shut down Bodija Market for “security reasons”. .

The government said it took the action following sporadic shooting yesterday at the market and its environs. The Aare Laatosa LCDA Chairman Adekunle Oladeji said the closure was meant to prevent the loss of lives and property.

Veteran comedian Ali Baba has pen down a heart wrenching note in reaction to the tanker fire at Lagos Ibadan express which claimed many lives

In organized societies, where traffic is a major issue, tankers and heavy duty vehicles move at night or at specified times. In developed climes, MOT agencies... are as serious as the police force. In some other climes, that have deep shores like we do, only one port can not be used for discharge of staples like fuel, and even then, fuel and transportation of inflammable contents are done in controlled methods. We are a Lawless country. If government tries to organize these same tankers now, they will go on strike, shut down the economy and day to day running, and we will let them continue. Same thing with teachers... try to get them to go get retrained and be bwtter qualified to teach, they will strike and wr are back to status quo. We do not punish people who even chop monies meant for projects. Projects that have been captured in the budget and monies released. The same people who chop the monies will now be in the ruling party and to prosecute them becomes a No No. And as nothing is done to them another person will do it. Just imagine. Nigerians died today because of avoidable precautions and failure to create policies and laws that have consequences that could have detered that tanker from being on that road. But no. Law makers dont care. The Executives no send and the JUDICIARY is not jailing them. Bet me, more tankers will fall. Nothing will be done. Nothing.

News had it last week that the Tanzanian singer Diamond and Zari Hassan have reunited following earlier breakup on February 14th, Which did not allow Diamond see her or the kids till last week after his manager and family flew over to South Africa to plead with her.

Popular singer, Daniel Anidugbe, formerly known as Kiss Daniel, has changed his name to Kizz Daniel. The singer made this known in an Instagram post during the week. He had put up a picture of the new name with the caption, “Moving forward. Call me Kizz Daniel.”

Shortly after Daniel made the post, it was reported that with the move, the singer was now free of all obligations to his former label, G-Worldwide Entertainment.

However, in a chat with Sunday Scoop, Daniel’s former manager, Louiza Williams, stated that the singer’s recent action had no effect on the court case.

“I actually did not know that he had changed his name until you told me. However, there is no big deal about that; it has nothing to do with the case,” said the musician’s ex-manager.

“The next court date is June 26. It is not true that the case has been settled; so, I don’t know where all those reports came from. If there was anything like that, I would be aware of it. Though Kizz Daniel doesn’t come to court personally, his lawyers appear on his behalf and I am sure they pass relevant information across to him accordingly. The court ruled that both parties should maintain the status quo, but Kizz Daniel is doing what is best known to him, which is contrary to what the court ordered.”

On what move G-Worldwide is considering, Williams said, “The company definitely has a plan but I cannot reveal anything for now.”
